Has anyone successfully replaced their tv and got rid of the issue? If so, how did you go about replacing yours?

Thanks.

I think I managed.

First I went to the store where I bought it. They said I had to call Geek Squad. I called them and they wanted to send their tech to look at it to see if he could replace it.

He came over, looked at it and took a couple of pics. He said they can't fix it since Sharp doesn't provide them with back panels to replace. He opened a ticket with Sharp and send them the pics. I was suppose to hear back from Sharp withing 2-3 business days. That never happened.

Called Geek Squad again and told them to just give me a replacement already. I told them their tech told me it's not fixable, but of course he didn't put that in his notes. So they didn't want to give me a replacement.

That's when I started to get upset with them. I requested to talk to a supervisor (Misty at the escalations department). After I got one, they still didn't want to give me a replacement. She told me that I needed to go back to the store to see if they would give me a replacement (the store was the one that told me to call them in the first place). So I got on to them that they promised hassle free returns/exchanges, per their commercials (I bought my TV the day that started), through the end of January.

Again, she told me it was up to the store, if the would honor that. So asked for her name and let her know I was going to go to the store and if they redirect me back to them, I was going to have the store itself call them right then and there (the wait times are VERY long) and ask for her specifically. So I asked her to put in her notes that she directed me back to the store and that they couldn't do anything. Supposedly, the Best Buy stores can't access the systems to see the notes.

A couple of days later I get a call. It's Best Buy and they gave me a confirmation number to take to any Best Buy to exchange the TV! I haven't gone yet (might go today) but I'm assuming that should give me an easy exchange.

Plz keep update. I hope the new unit will not have this diamond pattern issue.

Picked up a 632 from Best Buy on 12/30/11. Picture looked great after I calibrated it using the Spears and Munsil BD. Also ran the Disney WOW disk to verify brightness uniformity with the Purity tests. Last night, I noticed when watching the intro to Planet Earth - what appeared to be (flash) lighting in all 4 corners of the screen. Once the disc got past the intro, the black levels look great, almost as inky black as a plasma. Also observed uneven backlighting (clouding, diamond cross hatch patterns) when there is a white background on screen. Thinking about either having a Sharp tech come out or swapping out the set.

The picture is excellent for an entry level, large full array backlit panel, even with the issues some of us are having. When I called Sharp last night, it was interesting connecting to someone in the United States for support, with no wait times. FWIW, here are my settings:

Movie Mode
OPC - off
Backlight - -1
Contrast - +23
Brightness - -1
Color - +1
Tint - +2
Sharpness - 0

Advanced
CMS Hue
R - 0
Y +2
G 0
C +1
B 0
M 0

CMS Sat
R +1
y +2
G +2
C +6
B +8
M +4

CMS Value
R +1
Y 0
G +3
C +1
B +1
M 0

Color Temp - Middle
Motion Enhancement - Off
Active Contrast - Off
Gamma - 0
Film Mode - Off
Digital Noise Reduction - Off

Make sure during the initial setup that you choose home for the location instead of store. Also, under the power setting, experiment with the Power Saving feature off.

Thanks for the pics, myoda...helps me understand what some of you are talking regarding the various issues. It's been hard for me to get it, because I simply don't see the same level of issues that some of you do. For example, the minimal clouding and diamond cross-hatching that I see is not even close to what is in the pics you posted. Maybe I just got a "good" panel...? I certainly consider myself a discerning and picky viewer, and I am looking for this stuff; I'm just not seeing it to any great extent, and not to the point of being an issue.

I will try all of your advanced settings; thus far, I have not touched those...

Thanks again!

Is there a build date range this is effected by? Mines coming at noon tomorrow.

Had some second thoughts before it arrived today but when it arrived they were all gone

I found these settings below that on my set look great compared to my Panasonic plasma 58, now in the master bed sweet post thoughts used user setting

Settings Starting from top to bottom top written here Left to Right or Red first*
wich for Hue would be +6 and work your way down*

HuE +6 0 -16 0 0*
Saturation 0 -18 -4 -30 -13 -30
Value +10 0 -7 0 +20 0*

Color temp*
You can use Med or Low Med user preference but set
0 0 0 +8 0 -10*

Gama -1 /*
Contrast 31
Color +7 or your preference
brightness +1
sharpness +2 on cable box you can go upto like 6 on my set and it doesnt corrupt the image.
All you guys know to turn smooth motion off ,
noise reduction off, BUT you can set noise*
reduction to low or auto on your cable box.
You can use Dynamic contrast as you wish bc it does help nexflix shows
wich tend to be on the greyish side .

Congrats, Moth!! Glad you're digging it! I, too, put my 58" plasma in the bedroom...Fits great in there, and my Sharp is perfect in the big great room!

Posted these settings on another forum
These are my original settings so id though id post it here also

Picture included Doesnt do justice on how well the colors pop .
Just a reference on how good skin tones look and and color ballance, color here is +7 on netflix HD

Hello Everyone , I know there are a lot of ppl looking for calibrated settings
for the 70le632u , I was one of them , I had a Vizio XVT533 on hand
Wich Produces extremly good color balance Acording to Pro reviews - Eventhough every set is different I calibrated My sharp 70632u side by side against the Vizio . I got the Colors to look Perfect against the Vizio.
Infact on Night Sceens on the Lion King 1080P the Sharp had tons more details.

I left some colors like green a little higher than the vizio bc football and baseball just look better.

I was looking for settings like crazy but pro reviewers didnt want to share them bc they want to get paid to calibrate your tv. thats why I am sharring my hours of workso you guys can finaly enjoy what this tv can do . If you are familiar with the Sharp you know that a +1 or -1 setting makes a ton of difference to going +20 on a settings like Value is huge. The technology in the sharps is there but the calibrations were so bad you have no idea. I will update this later when I feel like perfecting it.
I just wanted to get these settings out there.

Before Calibration - The TV LOOKED AWFULL!!!!! skin stones were way off and so on .

Settings Starting from top to bottom top written here Left to Right or Red first
wich for Hue would be +6 and work your way down

TINT IS VERY IMPORTANT TO LEAVE AT 0
HuE +6 0 -16 0 0 0 Sking tone fix
Saturation 0 -18 -4 -30 -13 -30 Rgb ballance
Value +10 0 -7 0 +20 0 Color Depth and Accuracy.
Each one of these changes affect 2 colors at a time thats why its hard to get them just right.Value affects
how strong Hue looks and so on .Saturation also affects how strong you set tint and Value .This is the closest
you will get without paying best buy 200bucks for calibration and you might not even notice any difference.

Color temp
You can use Med or Low Med user preference but set
0 0 0 +8 0 -10

Gama -1 / 0 looks better on shows like Icarly bc theres no shadow detail. Infact use 0 on those bright shows.
Backlight +2(turning backup up to high makes cablebox look to noisy) you need really high end HD to turn up to 16
Contrast 31 (32 makes faces wash out on sunlight eventhough calibration paterns say 32 is fine but its not)
Color +7 or your preference
brightness +1
sharpness +2

All you guys know to turn smooth motion off ,
noise reduction off, BUT you can set noise
reduction to low on your cable box or BluRays that have noticible noise
You can use Dynamic contrast as you wish bc it does help nexflix shows like 30rock wich tend to be on the greyish side .

These made my sharp look better than the Vizio -
Remember these settings are without using special tools just using my eyes.
these may not work perfect for you bc each set is different but if you plan to tweak
them NEVER use a + setting on Saturation ,

Plz let me know if this worked for you - Side by side to the vizio the colors look identical but smoother
due to the better video processing of the sharp .

Movies tested:
lion King 1080p
Pc runing youtube ( Last friday knight -katy /Love you like a love son -Selena / What the hell -avril
Dark Knight 1080p
Tangled 1080p
A lot of Dish network HD content

UPDATE:

I found that using Standard Mode is the best mode for sharpness and backlight efficiency , Movies like Moneyball look EXTREMELY sharp .
Ps, dont be affraid of lowering brightness to -2 or something and turning noise reduction Low on movies that need it.

Thanks for posting. Are these settings for regular Cable HD or for Blu ray? I am looking for my UverseHD cable settings which I know would be a bit different from my BR WOW disc settings. Thanks.

How do I get YouTube on this TV using the built in apps? Or Vimeo? Seems silly that it's not included.

You don't for now. Perhaps Sharp will update with more apps, but as of now it is not included.

Anyone else seeing this? Thought it might have been my DVR, so I split the output from my receiver into a powered monoprice hdmi splitter. One end to my old Mits on the left and the Sharp on the right. A green line appeared along the top of the 70LE632, nothing on the Mits. Bypassed the receiver and took the output direct from the DVR to the same HDMI port on the Sharp. Still the same. All other sources running through the receiver do not have this issue on the same HDMI input.

When watching a standard def digital channel, I can see a pulsating white stripe across the panel. I recall that the white lines across the top are carrying data - closed caption, guide data, but I should not be seeing it.

I was wondering if when the delivery guys were putting the stand on with the tv upside down damaged anything. I thought the best way to get the stand on is to lay the panel on the box that it was shipped in, and then slide into the base. I have another 70LE632 on the way to swap out this one.

Nope, and I can't believe they turned the TV upside down to get the stand on.

This is normal, and even warned about in the user manual. When using dot for dot (or just scan or whatever) you will see that white stripe on some if not all channels. If it bothers you chose a different screen mode. I see the same things on my LG and Samsung. Nothing to fret about.

Actually, it's not normal. If I can see the data from CC and PSIP data, then the television is underscanning slightly. I did not have a green line acroos the top of the screen when I took delivery of the set on December 30, 2011, nor was I able to see the scan lines across the top of the screen when watching non hi def digital channels. It is set for dot by dot. I believe there is a problem with this panel. The new one will be here on 1/14/11, Saturday. Will give ya an update this weekend.

It is normal just handled a little differently on this set. Dot by Dot displays all of the 1080p output form your cable box, dvr, bluray player. Different channels will be submitting slightly different information. The view mode "stretch" slightly overscans to accommodate this. I noticed some NFL games that wouldn't fill the screen on the sides, some white lines on the top. Completely broadcast related. Older tv's, and tv's without the dot by dot option already had this overscan built in via the service menu. Also I've been through the service menu on this tv and there is no vertical/horizontal sizing ability like many of the past tv's i've owned.

You probably didn't see it when it was delivered because it comes on stretch mode by default and would depend on the content you watched at the time. I had mine on dot by dot for about 3 weeks before I noticed any of this.

Both Game and PC mode have very low lag. I adjusted one for evening gaming/viewing and the other for brighter day gaming/viewing. Though even on regular modes I don't really perceive lag (I know it's there, but I can't really tell the difference). I am apparently not very sensitive to it.
