Lokilarry - I have a Vizio 55inch 552 on my wall right now as well and am going to replace it with a 70 inch in the next few weeks. Deciding right now between the 632 and 733 available at Costco although struggling with the idea that the new ones are coming out and if I just wait a little longer for the price to fall....

One specific question relating to the Vizio, in looking at the 632 at Costco, I didn't love the way it looked as you started moving off center. Specifically, at around 30 degree angle, you really started to see a noticeable degredation in picture quality. I know LCDs all suffer from this, however at least under Costco suboptimal lighting conditions, it looked surprisingly bad. I didn't think the 733 had as bad an effect, although the placement of the TV in the store didn't allow for as good as a comparison.

Do you think off angle viewing on the 632 you now have is significantly better or worse than the 552 it replaced? Thanks.
I would say it is about the same. We have a recumbent bike in the corner of the room that is at a fairly steep angle. When working out we tend to watch the tv. It's actually fairly good at this angle (probably 35 degrees from center).
PQ degrades substantially at >30 degrees off-center. That, to me, is the biggest knock on this panel, though I think it's endemic to all LCD's.

That said, it's not an issue for me, as I'm always in the optimal viewing area.

The 733 will be no different than the 632 in this regard, as they are the same with the exception of the yellow pixel and 240Mhz (which are marketing only, and add no value, hence, go with the 632).
The off angle picture degradation is a bummer. I think I'm going to have to purchase a swivel to put under the tv for when a larger group of people come over to watch a game.

The only other major problem I have is the audio sync issue. I mix audio for TV as a living and it's something that I pick up on instantly. In game mode with my Ble Ray as the source it's about 1-2 frames off. In movie mode it can sometimes appear as much as 5 frames off. (although watching in movie mode with my DirecTV DVR as the source, it seems to vary from 1-3 frames off) It's really unfortunate that I have to upgrade my perfectly good Pioneer 1016 surround receiver for a newer model with the adjustable audio sync feature.

Except for people like me which found the PQ to be better on the 700 series vs the 600

I'm thinking of grabbing one of these from Costco. They have 70 in sharp in store for $2300 right now.

Curious about a good floor stand that incorporates VESA mount arms. Costco had a stand that was two shelves. Looked nice and had arms that run up the back to mount the TV.

The stand said it was for TV up to 60 inches, but the sharp 70 inch is well within the weight limit.

Anybody try one of these stands with the 70 inch of know of a stand like that for TV in this size?

I just got back from Costco (St. Louis) a few minutes ago. They had the 80" for $4400ish...but now had a 70" for $2400ish...but it was a new/different model number. It was 70LE640....I bought the 70" a month ago...and it was the 70LE632. The box also said 240hz plus a few more things my 632 did not say. Just passing it along...guessing it might be the new model year??

To be honest, I didn't look at the model number. Just know it was the 70 inch Sharp. Looks like a great price.

That's the 2012...the 2011 632 would be <$2000.

That is what I am thinking...I paid $1850 for my 70LE632 at Sams (online) a few weeks ago. It had free shipping...so seemed like a good deal.

It looks great...I am using Jasons Game mode settings...but am planning to try his latest Movie mode settings soon.

Wait til you try his latest Movie settings...best yet, IMO...I am sticking with them.

This set really aced the WOW disc tests. No overscanning, pixel for pixel perfection. My girlfriend's new Panasonic Plasma had bad overscan (5%) and had an annoying flicker, even after it was set up by "The Geek Squad", I HATE that Panny plasma.

Hello,

does costco and samsclub put the sales prices on their websites or will the sale prices in the store be cheaper?

I went to sams club yesterday and the TV was still $2500 and the website also says $2500 right now. But, if it goes on sale, is the price going to be shown cheaper in the store?

How about costco?

( I'm open to other purchase locations, but since these 2 stores were just mentioned a few posts before me, I thought I'd talk about them first. I just don't trust many online retailers, except amazon, but I'm open to comments and suggestions )

I'd like to save myself a trip to the stores, if the price is not on sale.

Also, I'm wondering what people here think about this:
I have read from a few websites that the quatron version of the TV does not look much different, so those websites said it was up to the individual but they did not think it was worth the extra money.

thank you

In-store should be the same as online, but I have not seen any of the 70-inchers online, at least from Costco. Based on the prices you mentioned above, you may be seeing the 2012 models...check the model numbers.

And no, you definitely don't need the Quattron.

Yup...saw these new babies in too! The top part of the bezel was slanted a bit up at the top and I think they placed the light sensors at the top now and angled upward since I did not see them at the bottom (which 632 has). Not sure if this would gauge the ambient lighting (OPC) better than being at the bottom?

Now am I starting to feel that buyer's remorse after buying the 632 day after Thanksgiving? $1899 was a great deal at that time but are these new sets worth the extra $$$? Anyone starting to have this "buyer's remorse"?

Me either and I have only had mine for 2 days.

The only negative thing about this tv is that it doesn't pass Dolby Digital 5.1 through the HDMI connections. My 2+ year old Vizio VF552XVT did. Not a deal breaker by any means. I too have tried Jason's settings for Game and Movie mode and like both of them.

I plugged in Jason's MOVIE mode settings and they are AWESOME! I tested it with AVATAR and it looked very very nice. Can't wait to show off the new PQ/Colors at my next BR movie watching night! Thanks again Jason for all you do on this forum! Kudos!

So I guess it passes 5.1 via the optical out of the TV then. I thought it would pass it via HDMI also with the ARC. This is weird. Oh well... it doesn't matter since I go from my Uverse box via optical to my receiver anyway. I also have the TV optical out going straight to receiver as well. Not a dealbreaker for sure. Using an optical switch box btw.

anyone notice that all of the "New" 2012 line but the top-of-the-line models are edge lit ? Full Back lighted array is now just for the most expensive models ....
ya want a Full back lit Array Sharp, then grab the 2011's or be left to get the most expensive Sharp model outta the 2012 line .. looks to me as if Sharp is Locking down the 2012 market in the 70"+ sizes to force the back lighted full array Tech to only the top models there by having a lock on the Best quality 70+ size Displays .....

Yeah, I got used to passing 5.1 from my HD-DVD player and TiVo through the HDMI and out of the tv with the optical connection on my Vizio. I also use an optical switcher for all of my components, so that is also an option. The problem being, when I do that, I have a horrible audio synch problem with the tv. If you turn up the volume on the tv speakers and turn up the surround system using the optical out from the TiVo, the delay difference is huge. So my solution is just PCM through the HDMI and out the optical on the tv and that seems to work. Interestingly, I don't have the same issue with my Sony BD player using HDMI input 1.

I bought mine about 4 weeks ago..and at that time...my local Sams was around $1975...but Sams online was $1849 w/free shipping. Based on my experience, Sams online is usually the same as the store...but not always. If you live close to several Sams...you can check each stores prices by changing your "default store/location" on their website. Out of the dozen or so Sams around me...on occasion one will have a lower price than all the others. YMMV.

I purchased mine from BJs for $1899. Fortunately, my father-in-law has a van that could accommodate the box, so I was able get instant gratification.

WOW...glad to hear that I now have one of the TOP OF THE LINE SHARP's with the full array LED. My buyer's remorse is slowly shrinking again! Thanks for letting me know this. I'd rather have full array vs edge lit LED TV's. So anyone else waiting for the new 70" edge lit TV's?

I'll bet it was.

I also got to pick which box I wanted out of the dozen or so that BJs had on the floor. So I picked the one that looked like it had seen the least amount of stress.

Jason

Just wanted to say THANKS Jason!!! Been using your Game Mode settings and really like them....will try your latest Movie settings this week.

BTW, when I first got my 632, I used WOW...and while it did pretty good (had good luck in the past)...we watched Toy Story 3, and the whites had a noticeable "redness". It was pretty distracting. I plugged your Game mode settings in and paused the movie in several places...and your Game mode settings look much more accurate. For example, some of the outdoor scenes with my Wow disc showed the concrete as a purplish shade...but with your settings that went away and it looked like it should.

Anyway, just wanted to say thanks for all your hard work on these settings!!

I can't get a 5.1 signal out of the optical port on my TV.

It's interesting, because the manual (on pg 31) says there should be an audio setup option under the Input Terminal Setting Menu, but my TV doesn't have the Audio Setup option there. That's where you're supposed to be able to set the optical port to Dolby Digital. Anybody else see that option?
