Any one using, or considering to use, the Darbee Vision Darblet with their RS55?

I'm using the Darblet with my RS65 and the great image has improved considerably, if it does that on the 65 it will do the same on the 55.

Just give any salesman a call and place your order. We will then put you on the list, since these are on backorder. Your card is not charged until it ships.

I had one with Lumagen XD and RS55. I like the effect with the "Game" setting at 40%. I am sitting at about 13ft on a 10ft wide scope screen. I do have the colorspace transition "issue", but I just switch my radiance to RGB mode (or change my JVC to Auto detect).

Thanks. Is not the colorspace issue fixed with a firmware update from Darbee?
It's fixed on the new batch that are soon to be sent out. To update firmware in existing units, they have to be sent in.
For those going to CEDIA, throw your Darbee in your pocket and get it update there for free, no shipping. smile.gif That is what I am going to do.

Are there any gamers on here who own this projector? Any noticeable lag? I won't use this as my main gaming setup, but it would be nice to game on the big screen once in a while.

I'm back in this thread because of Sony's new pricing policy, it's now a lot more then I'd want to spend.

My son plays Skyrim allot on xbox 360 and hasn't noticed any issues.

I have an isf instructor/calibrator. Coming over on Thursday, I hope it's worth the money!
His name is Jim Doolittle and well respected.

I will report back after I have had some time to take it all in.

JVC's are great in many ways. Lag is not one. Of course it is all relative on a persons expectations, but, generally they are one of the slower projectors in that regard.

What settings minimize lag? I'm running my Lumagen XE3D on game mode. Output 1080P to my JVC55. Have every processing option I have control over from the user menu turned off. Seems to work OK for games. Should I turn off 4K? Have the MPC control set to 0. Motion turned off, etc. SJ

I guess it's something I have to live with then huh?

That or suck it up and spend more coin on the Sony...I guess I should head back to get a demo with my PS3 and a few games that I play and see for myself.

Another question for those with multiple pairs of glasses...What do you use to charge them all? I'm planning to have 4-6 pairs in my setup...
You won't notice lag except in FPS or similar multiplayer experiences, and a tiny tiny bit of "drag" in certain timing sequences of a handful of games (but this is rare). That said, some DLP's are better than ANY LCOS for gaming (except for dark scenes) for other reasons (fluidity of motion and motion resolution in pans), but it isn't a world of difference better.

The two-projector setup is the best if you can budget it. If going purely off movie watching, you can't beat the JVC in this price range, and that includes the Sony. Sony has smoother motion though more DLP-like on motion, but it isn't as sharp and the blacks aren't as good.
Pick your poison.

Anyone have any issues calibrating the RS55? Mine went not so well and my calibrator recommended I get it switched out with another unit. We tried to dial in the greyscale which kept throwing the primaries completely out of whack. Not to mention, there wasn't enough red at the upper end even with gain maxed out. Has anyone gotten excellent results with regards to calibration? I'd be curious to see if someone has a report they would like to share just to see what results someone has gotten (PM is fine).

Who was the calibrator? More importantly...has he ever worked with a JVC projector?
I would wonder that also, from most of the projectors I've calibrated there is usually a way around some of the issues enough to hide it from the eye for the most part (maybe not perfectly). Some JVC's seem to exhibit a bit more of a yellow cast than others do, so anything is possible.

There are going to be unit variances, how someone elses' projector calibrates is not a guarantee to how yours will calibrate. Exchanging it might provide a unit that calibrates better, but I'm surprised that was the calibrator's immediate reaction (but maybe he was justified, cannot say since we were not there).

here was his description of the problem:

"The Grayscale adjustments are changing the primary and secondary colors of the color gamut. Specifically the manipulation of the Blue Gain Control in the Custom 1 Color Temperature changes the Blue primary to purple. As a consequence accurate grayscale tracking is impossible to achieve."

Is this normal behavior for a calibration on a RS55?

That would be my first question too. While I have no idea how well the CMS in the X70/RS55 works, it's rare to find a CMS that actually works 100% correctly on displays. There are many models of displays that have an inherently "broken" CMS. What he's seeing may be "normal" for the RS55, I'm not sure. If it's normal it's something that you'd see on all RS55's. You often then have to work around and make due with the tools you have. Take a look in the calibration forum and see if this is a known issue with the RS55. I don't remember reading of any "broken" CMS issues with the RS55 but you never know.

I'll certainly take a look myself once I order mine and go to calibrate it ...

Calibrator was Kevin Miller. He mentioned he has done a ton of JVC projectors.
Kevin is a very experienced calibrator. If he suggested swapping it out there is something not right with it and I'd take his suggestion.

I think everyone agrees, you have to do what he says. Good thing you hired someone experienced and not a joker. Sorry about this bad luck, it's happened to most of us in projectors at times.
