Speaker help for Pioneer VSX-1121

Planning on purchasing the Pioneer vsx-1021. I'm sold on the iPad app and airplay.

My speaker budget is approx. $600.00
Movies and Music use is 50/50
Room size is 20 x 15 - open to kitchen at back of room
I'm upgrading from a 10 year old HTiB :-)

The other suggestions here have convinced me to build out from 2 floorstanding speakers and a sub.

My latest idea was the Polk Monitor 70 pair with an Outlaw M8 sub.

Any thoughts? Also, will I miss the center speaker for movies assuming I'll have to wait a while?

Thanks.

Mike

Ok, change that receiver to the VSX-1121 which I just bought on Amazon after seeing the price drop on the Deals forum here!

You might want a larger sub than the M8 for a 20 x 15 room.

Agreed, after more research I was thinking the BIC-F12.

Does any one have an opinion of the Pioneer FS51 speakers vs Polk 70?

completely different sound. You want to go to best buy to compare the Pioneer speakers vs the TSi speakers which are very similar to the Monitor speakers.

too my ears the Polks are much brighter. The Pioneers sound more balanced.

How loud, do you plan to play your system?

From "Wife Friendly" up to someone knowing I'm watching an action movie when they walk up to the front door... If that means anything :-)

I just went to Best Buy to listen to the Pioneer and Polk, I liked the Pioneer a little better, and then I listened to some Energy CF-50's - Big difference over the other two.

CF-50 - $200/ea.
CC-10 - $271

Thoughts? Thanks for all the help!

Not for me - however, they should work nice for you, and will play loud.
Good Luck and enjoy.

So for the approx. price I'm paying, what would you be looking at? Considering fronts that are sub $300/ea?

I realize it's a personal taste decision, but being so new to this I would love to hear other opinions.

Thanks.

The Energy is a nice graduation from a 10yr HTIB system - we all start
from somewhere - if you like them and feel that you can live with them
a long time - then that is, what it's all about.
