Some games do it too, again because the game isn't truly 1080/1920 as far as pixel count. Sometimes overscan is your friend.

Steve, thanks for the reply. Yes about 50% of the channels do it. I have 2 Samsung LCD's 52A750 and a 52b750. They don't do it. That is why I do believe it has something to do with the TV. Overscan does get rid of them. So with that in mind, I am returning this set and did decide to upgrade to the 70LE632U. It was my original choice but decided to give this one a shot first.

While looking for a full sized owners manual on the Sharp website (my 70 year old eyes simply cannot read the one that came with the set, even with reading glasses ... evidently they have not yet published a pdf as a complete search could not find one), I did find that a firmware update, version 2.0, has been available since November 8. I suspect the set I purchased last Friday still has version 1.0 on it, so I have downloaded it. My question is ... has anyone else downloaded and installed the new version 2.0 and is it worth it?

Thanks.

6300u. I know, it sounds strange... checked it 3 times.
I can't even check my firmware- the selection is grayed out. This is a weak menu. I am seriously considering a return.

check in the antenna input.

Do you have access to change your color settings?

I by this I mean Red Green and blue?
No, just color and tint.

I can post a pick if you like.
Yea that would be great. This is so strange this set only has firmware listed up to 2.0 I wonder if we can change the color settings?

I have seen this on many LCD's. I dont remember the exact name for it but it has do to with the data signal/transmission coming from the broadcast channel. You will not see it when watching a movie from a dvd or blu-ray. It has to do with data being sent from the channel. It is supposed to be above the top of the screen out of view. My older Vizio TV allowed me to adjust the picture size where you could just raise the top of the picture to eliminate this. I will try and find other post that describe it better then I can.

Here is an old thread I found that explains it. I believe its the Closed Captioning signal.

http://www.dbstalk.com/showthread.php?t=101457

Its not the TV that's doing this.

I tried two methods to update firmware, because there were weird instructions for it with the download. Both methods went through the process, but neuther gave me a final confirmation. Nothing seemed different. I am so jealous that the 330 model has hue settings. I cant get mine quite dialed in. I got an acceptable movie setting, but then football looks horrible.

Got my set yesterday and set it up last night. Here are some of my observations. Keep in mind I used to be a very OCD videophile and the littlest things bothered me. I have since gotten older and worried less about the little stuff.

What I have hooked up:
TivoHD (HDMI)
PS3 (HDMI)
360 (HDMI)
HDXA2 HDDVD player (HDMI switch)
Wii (component)
Sony HTIB (optical)

The GOOD:
- this thing is a HUGE, I love the size
- not as thin as the higher-end Samsungs but pretty thin IMO
- bezel size is nice
- nice matte screen isn't uber reflective like a plasma
- motion looked great after I tweaked a few settings
- picture IMO is VERY NICE, great contrast/clarity/color
- amazing value for the price I paid

The BAD:
- edge lighting splotches/flashlights/halos (this is something I was completely ready for and it's not a deal breaker for me). I have noticeable splotches/halos on the middle right-hand edge of the set. It's mostly noticeable when switching between inputs, or if the screen is very, very dark. Like when you're booting up a BD and the tv is synching with the correct resolution, etc. I still need to play around with the settings, calibrate, etc. Thankfully it is in the middle of the edge and not on top/bottom, as you cannot see it during 2:35:1 content, that might bug me more.
- settings out of the box are "meh" as everyone mentions, that OPC setting is a waste, hate it, off it goes
- 3 HDMI ports, (the standard is really 4) but I got an auto switch so no prob
- no real manual, just a quick guide?

Other than the flashlighting, there wasn't really anything else I didn't like about the set, again, I feel it's an amazing value for the price. Just over 3 years ago I paid double for my 52" Samsung A52650 & the picture on this set is def better than it.

The clouding/uneven backlighting/flashlighting/halos I feel is just something that is present on a lot of LCD/LED sets, I have been through 6 or more panels (Sony, Samsung, Sharp) over the years, and they all had it in some form or another. Some being extremely minimal and others being more prominent. If it's not extreme, I feel it's more a personal thing to let go of . I love reading reviews where people keep bringing the set back, getting this, getting that, and they have gone through like 10 sets & each with its own set of probs. I mean, do what makes you sleep better at night, but know that there is no "perfect" panel out there, each tech has its advantages and disadvantages. It boils down to what is "perfect/acceptable" for you & what you can live with for the amount you paid.

So in closing, paint me a happy camper with this beast!

So, that's my 2 cents, I'm still tinkering, will report back on anything. FYI I can't seem to get into my Firmware to see what mine is, will keep tinkering.

Newbie here. I'm looking to get this panel too. The price is very attractive right now. Although I am concerned about mounting. Still debating.

Anyone watched this with sports yet? How was it? Still waiting on getting mine.

I guess I am the only one with uber-green football fields? Maybe I got a bad egg.

I picked up this TV on Sunday and it looks really great with one exception. There is occasionally a section of the screen about 4 inches wide running from top to bottom with a slightly different brightness/color than the rest of the screen. It comes and goes, and is more/less noticeable depending on the video being displayed.

I've uploaded pictures of it here. It's kind of hard to see in the picture, so I drew some arrows. It's one of those things that once you see it, you can't unsee it which is pretty annoying on a TV. So did I get a defective TV? Do other people notice this? Should I return it, or contact sharp? Or is it possible that once the TV is broken in it won't do this? Or is there an A/V setting that will cause this?

Bought it online. It's made by Pinnacle Design.
http://www.amazon.com/Pinnacle-TV738...2598580&sr=8-2 I did not buy it from Amazon, but posted the link for a reference. I paid a little under $120 for it.

I'm slowly figuring out the best settings for my cell phone cam, if anyone would like any more pics of the TV itself, *not screenshots* or the stand, or questions about the TV, I'll be happy to answer : ) Everytime I walk into the room, I feel like a child on Christmas day : D

Watched Monday Night Football last night, looked really great on the settings that were posted earlier in the thread.

Edit, sorry multipost, if someone can combine, I'd appreciate it.
That does not look normal.

Does it happen on all the inputs? If so, that would rule out your connectors/wire. When you get that problem, change the input right away to see if it displays on the other ones.

It could be the power outlet/wiring is picking up that interference from somewhere. Even if you need to use a long extension cord, try a different circuit - not outlet, temporarily.

Otherwise, I would say to return it.

I'll try this. I've mostly used the QAM tuner but I think it may have happened once on the HDMI IN as well.

Hrmm. I had not thought about this. I guess I thought interference of this variety went away with the advent of digital TV.

I may contact Sharp to see what they'll do for me first, because I'm pretty certain that there are no more of these TV's in stock and it was a pretty good deal :-/

ive had this set for 2 weeks now and find it quite good, the only problem is that i cannot access the "fine sync" setting under the option menu, its gray and cannot change it...

I tried updating the firmware to 2.0 using both sets of Sharp instructions and all my menus are the same. In fact, I think I now have more grayed out menu items than before, including the "Identification" option. Any help?

Also, I assume I had version 1.0, since my channel search on the ez setup crashed three times before I was able to bypass it (this is the main bug 2.0 is supposed to fix). Anyone have a link to the 2.07 firmware? I couldn't find it anywhere on Sharp's website. Any thoughts about maybe using the firmware for the LC60LE632U? I don't want to brick my brand new tv...
Mine are also grayed out as well. :/
I got this and went to calibrate it using the settings recommended here and they turned out AWFUL. Dark, colorless, and washed out. The default settings looked far better to me...
