Dust after construction

Ever since the basement was finished, I have had issues with dust, or so it seems. The wife tells me when we first moved in she could go 2 weeks without dusting. Now, it seems she will dust today and by tomorrow you can see the dust on the furniture again.

Just curious how many have had their ducts cleaned and if in fact what they say is true. Does duct cleaning really work or is it just a scam?

Replace the filter on your HVAC system. That clears a lot of dust. The worst dust is from drywall sanding. That's get everywhere. Eventually it gets cleared out. You can also replace your room duct covers with ones that have a filter built-in and hopefully that'll help.

I get the ducts cleaned and disinfected about every 3 years. I get them sprayed with antifungal and antimicrobial solution to kill various fungi, molds and bacteria. How true is it or how well it works I'm not sure but makes my wife happy that ducts are clean as they can be. I'm kind of skeptical myself on that, but she is happy.

Many homes go forever without duct cleaning. I personally think it's a rip off unless you've had something seriously wrong (heavy smoking, no furnace filter, kids toys placed in vents, rodents, etc. That being said, though, I'd be curious as to if it makes any difference for you.

Use a good furnace filter (the red 3M are good, IMO)

I've found that older homes, for whatever reason, just seem to get dustier more often than new.
