Epson 5010 Iris in 3D with firmware update?

Do you think this is something Epson could do? Not even having The option to use the Iris in 3D seems strange. Especially when all the other projectors have this feature.

It doesn't make sense to me (from a technical point of view) that they disable it, why not let the user have the choice? For people with smaller screens they very well would want it enabled and even those with larger screens would like to TRY it enabled in 3D mode to decide if they want to keep it enabled.

Can they? Yes.
Will they? My magic 8 ball says uncertain.

"They did update the FI on the 6500 after a lot of complaints. So it is a possibility, but I suspect Epson will wait until next year to bring their DI, FI and SR into the 3D world. I won't buy one unless they do and it'll have to be ghost free as well."

Update: So much for my resolve! I bought an Epson 6010. The 3D can be spectacular.

Another item to consider is IF a FW update comes out, will it require shipping back to the factory for updating.

It was possible to upgrade firmware at home with the 8500 a few years ago. Epson Japan told the USA support dept, to stop this. I think they were afraid that someone would hack the firmware. I am guessing that there was very little difference between the 8500 and 9500 and they were worried that with a firmware change one could turn the 8500 into a 9500. I am sure that Epson will require units to be sent back if they offer any firmware updates. There was a sequence on the remote to find out what firmware version one had. It may be in the 8500 archives on the forum.

Well, I hope they do update this, seems like a simple adjustment as the features are all ready there for 2D. And it would give it that much more advantage over the panasonic...which in turn would make my damn decision alot easier.

If they fixed the DI in 3D I think that would seal the deal for me on the Epson.

CFI in 3D requires TWICE the hardware processing power because there are two images to analyze (left and right). A firmware upgrade may not handle this as it changes software, not hardware.

My understanding is that the Sony HW30 and VW95 do not have an active DI in 3D mode either, although FI for the Sony projectors is active in 3D mode. I do not believe it is accurate to state that all the other 3D projectors have this feature in 3D mode -- most do and Epson, IMO, should have included this. I have the 6010 and would have liked this feature, but motion is excellent and I don't miss having an active FI in 3D mode.

It's ashame that the DI and FI don't port over to 3D. If it had, I would have bought the Epson over the Panasonic 7000. Luckily, so far I've had none of the flicker or extreme ghosting issues that some users have had with the Panny.

Maybe we need to make a poll who need and wants the F.I in 3d for the epson 5010(or tw9000) and send it to epson?
