Plz Help! Which would you choose? Onkyo 809, NAD T748, Denon 2112CI, Yamaha RXA-710 - Page 2

I'm not quite sure where you are on the final decision, but I would urge you to consider PSB speakers (made in Canada!), which are very hard to beat; excellent sound quality! ( I have had the PSB Image T6 tower speakers for about a year now; just wonderful speakers...$1300).

You can get four of the PSB Alpha B1 speakers (simply amazing for the price) for your front and rear for $500, and add a sub and have a fantastic-sounding system. I would consider the Mordaunt-Short Carnival 9 subwoofer if I were in your position, which is available for about $450. Check out the Audio Advisor website FYI for specs and details.

As for receivers, I am sold on Onkyo; they just sound SOOOO good! The low-level distortion of Yamaha, Denon, Pioneer, and others in that class give me a headache after a while. Onkyo is very distortion-free; no grainy sound.

I suggest that you go to the Onkyo website and check out the HT-RC360 receiver, which is 7.2 at 100w/ch, has the Audessy room correction software and setup mike, and bells and whistles galore, for $549. That one should float your boat!

So let's see; that's an excellent system for $549 plus about $950 for the 5 speakers= $1500 total. What's not to like?? (lol)

P.S.-amplifier distortion specs are meaningless! They are derived by testing with a sinewave tone and a resistor load, which is like "test-driving" a car without ever putting it in gear. In the real world, with MUSIC in the amplifier and a SPEAKER for a load, distortion is hundreds of times higher than those specs would lead the uninformed to believe (and which varies considerably among amplifiers)!

Paradigm MillenniaOne 5.0 (with a different sub. $1500 for a sub is out of my price range)

or

Tannoy Arena 5.1 set.

I can get both sets for about the same price which speakers would you go with?

I was set to get the Dennon 2112CI for $499 but can also get a yamaha rx A 2000 for $899.

An extra $400 is a bit of leap up in price would the Yamaha be enough of a jump to make it worth it for either of those speaker sets?

I know you are going around from thread to thread posting that Onkyo is the best and no other receiver compares but I would urge you to actually read some of thread before giving your insight. The OP already bought a Denon 2112 and the Tannoy speakers so there is no reason to try to post this garbage about Onkyo sounding better than all other receivers. The 2112 has MultEQ XT so that will beat the 360 which only has 2EQ.

I am saying that I have LISTENED to Onkyo and a lot of the others over the years and that Onkyo has always SOUNDED better to me.

Why would I want to read someone else's opinion? What has that to do with what I have actually HEARD and LIKE?

It's MY opinion and that's all it is; take it or leave it! It's free and worth every penny.

Thread Starter
I appreciate all the feed back but I did already make my purchases. I did consider PSB but never got around to testing them after listening to the milleniaones and tannoy arena's. The arena's sounded crisper and cleaner and I got a pretty good deal with free stands for $1000.

Currently breaking them in with radio static as instructed by sales guy. I still need to use them for a few hours a day since they are my only audio for tv but I guess I'll keep the volume on the low side.

As for Onkyo I had a 606 that needed the HDMI's fixed so that put a bit of a bad taste in my mouth so I took a break from Onkyo. I aslo find it odd that I only seem to see Onkyo in Big Box stores in Toronto, Canada. Most higher end places don't seem to carry Onkyo not sure why.

As a noob, I think I can get good sound out of what I bought at this point its more about figuring out how to work the settings/Audyssey to get me there.

@mj Thanks for the tip on turning the crossover all the way up to 150hz and volume levels at around 50% to perform the Audyssey set up. I'll try it tonight!

Any opinions and tips are always welcome!

Because if you actually read the thread you would know he already bought a Denon and you could save your Onkyo commercial for another thread. Thanks for playing. I still wan't a refund.

Where did you buy the tannoy arena 5.1? I have been looking to buy one new setup. I can pay for the shipping if you can give me the name and contact info.

Also, I found a great deal on denon 3112 vs onkyo 809, which one is better? both the same price of about 800. I'm going to be using them to power tannoy arena 5.1.

Habby11,
What do you think of the Denon so far?
