How long will a damaged optical block last?

So I've read all the threads about the Sony KDF-50e2000 and it seems that it is infact the optical block. With that being said, i contacted Sony and they gave me an offer for a KDL46EX500 or KDL55EX500, the prices that they are giving are lower than what I would pay at a big box store. I have a week to act.

With that being said, I really dont have that kinda loot right now with Christmas coming up but I am concerned that if i dont act I might miss the boat.

Does anyone know how long the optical block may last now that the red line has started? Would it be best just to buy it OR roll the dice and see what happens?

ANY INPUT WOULD BE GREAT!!!!!

The picture will usually continue to get progressively worse. It will degrade until the coloration becomes absolute torture to watch.

Based on what I know, I'll cautiously guesstimate another year of casual watching...before either mandatory repair or retirement to the city dump becomes inevitable.

I just started to notice a redish bar on the top 2" of my screen, across the entire width. I assume my optical block is on it's way out. If I could get another year I would be happy.
