Marantz PM8004 / SA8004 vs. Marantz PM15S2 & SA15S2

Does anyone have any thoughts on the Marantz PM8004 vs. the PM15S2 amp? I am interested in the PM15S2 as it is now available in black. I'm not sure if it's worth the cost or is much of an upgrade from the PM8004. And this sounds like a silly question, but does anyone know if you can turn the blue lights off? On the PM8004 I understand you cannot.

I think it's a question of how good your OTHER gears are - like your speakers. If you have a pair of speakers that cost under $2,500 than I'd say stick with the PM8004. I demoed a PM-11S2 with a pair of Martin Logan 8" Theos and was blowned away. Ahhh...maybe if my kid decides not to go college in 10 years, I'll get something like this LOL.

The PM15s2 is Marantz Reference Quality. Its built better with better parts and better sound. But it does depend on your other gear as well to get the best out of it.

Thanks for the reply! The speakers I am using are Paradigm Signature S2 or S6. Both cost a bit more than $2,500, more than twice that in the case of the S6. At some point I am considering a pair of Focal 1008 Be or even 1038 Be speakers. I feel like with this upgrade I wouldn't need to worry about new electronics.

In that case, I'd say if you have the money to burn, it's a good upgrade.

If you are driving Paradigms Sig, then you should get Marantz Reference PM15S2 amp.

According to the owners manual you can turn the lights off.

Thanks, I noticed that too after reading the manual for PM15S2. It's kind of a silly feature to wish the PM8004 had. The SA8004 will completely turn off the display, but the input selector lights on the amp are bright blue and do not seem to have a toggle. They light up the room if they are the only thing on.

If you decide to upgrade, I might be interested in your PM8004. I've got the SA8004 and love it!
