If you are using decoupling clips to connect the new framing to the existing joists (at the prescribed 4' course), then I don't see what additional structural stability the OSB is getting you - its overkill for sure.

There are nice benefits to it of course (like being able to hang anything anywhere on any wall and be able to bite into wood)

I have no illusion that it will be 100% done by the end of 9 days, but this project will have been jump started and hopefully the momentum will continue.

today we finished 90% of the OSB and managed to get a start on the Drywall. The last 10% of the OSB will happen tomorrow as we had to wait for supplies which we now have.

How did you go about soundproofing the vents in the ceiling? A dead vent within the joists?

All ducts are flex,where they enter the theater space they will be inside MDF soffit, the supplies are zoned, where the returns connect to the the main returns sections of linacoustic was added this morning, duct boots will be boxes lined with linacoustic like a duct muffler.

Checking into this thread for the first time. Looking good BIG! At the risk of asking a redundant question, Why all the OSB? Ceiling in the projector mount are for sure but the entire first layer?

Looks like Big remembered the most critical tool - the camera! Well, it is important to us anyway.

My guess is they're to aid in attaching things like columns, sconces, etc. Also, Big said it's there to help lend rigidity to the room within a room.

I'm not a fan on OSB for the first layer because of the extra effort required to cut all the boards. However in a retro fitted room within a room design with additional joists fitted in some with in really odd spacing it was nice to have that base to get the drywall layer to lay nice and flat with out having to worry about landing edges on joist spacing.

This morning and early afternoon was devoted to finish details on connecting the returns to the existing returns by building some linacoustic lined boxes connected to existing between joist space returns.

After that the rest of the OSB could be finnished. After dinner we did the drywall ceiling

Pics, you can see the design of a projection booth at the rear of the room, it will be covered with a matching wall panel resulting in a flush back wall.

The benefits of hanging the drywall with any seam location seem pretty great, to me. I'm dubious about the OSB helping rigidity, though. Drywall ought to have really great compressional stability, shouldn't it? It's basically uncompressible in my experience, so unless the wall were folding into the room (which the ceiling won't allow), drywall should be really good at locking it vertically and keeping the rectangular walls from becoming parallelograms - leaning left or right. (I suspect this is actually a moot point, but I'm not convinced it offers any structural enhancement) Looks really good in any case - keep up the good work!

Gosh you guys are efficient. You've far surpassed what I have gotten done in weeks in only a few days. Looking good and I like the projection booth!

Any chance you have some pictures/details on the linacoustic lined mufflers? I'm interested in the dimensions and how you constructed those. If I understand correctly the muffler is located at the end of the flex duct run just before it enters the main return for the house?

If you are familiar at all with project management practices, this is a case where 9 women CAN deliver a baby in 1 month (for the un-initiated, when projects get behind, Sr Managers try to argue that throwing more people on the project will make it go faster, using the logic that if 1 woman can deliver a baby in 9 months, then 9 women can deliver a baby in 1 month).

What I've found (over the long long loooong course of my build), is that on the days that I've had someone else helping out, I've gotten FAR more done than when working alone. There is a LOT less standing around contemplating what to do next, dropping what you are doing to run back and forth for tools, and most importantly, standing back and admiring whatever it is you've just done.

That, and in this case, time is money.
