So were the plans used for this room the "Room Layout Plan Set" or something more?

The plans were several thousand and A few years old when I started this project. They pre-dated the basic layout service.

Yup. I'm not a big fan of the mobile version either. I have had issues with responses not loading, obviously you have had the opposite problem. biggrin.gif

Not a fan of the mobile version. I can't get it to load threads at my last viewed post. I switched back to the desktop version on my mobile devices.

I don't like the mobile app either. It never works, always loading.

Big,

How were the columns made?

I made the tops and bottoms in my shop and then mated them with Fluted Columns purchased locally.

Thanks! I think I may do something like that for mine since they're such a low profile. It looks like you just routed the bottoms, and the tops are just molding?

Yes. but they were two layers of 1/2 MDF to start so that they would be thicker than the 3/4 inch fluting.

Great looking build! I live on the west side of Cleveland, so sorry I missed seeing the thread in time to stop by and help out.

Jeff,

Do you recall where you purchased the trim molding? I want to replicate them in the Theater Lobby.

Thanks!!

The only two spots we shopped in your town were Lowe's and Home Depot. Since Lowe's was closer I would check there first. I seem to remember we mixed and matched moldings from the two locations the day we were picking out the moldings so it really could be either location.

I'm refering to the tops and bottoms of the fluted columns. If I remember correctly, you built them in DC and brought them with you.

Two layers of MDF, I don't remember if it was 1/2 and 3/4 or two layers of 1/2. You can get easy to handle 1/2 pieces at HD you don't have to buy a 4x8 sheet. On the 3/4 you can grab a pre-cut shelf board.
The top detail is a molding called base cap, upside down
The bottom is 1/2 round.
I would have bought all at HD/Lowes. as that is the nearest locally.

Hi Big, any chance you can describe the bar build, I'm thinking of something similar in my room and interested how you constructed it and determined the height etc

two numbers I never forget are 36 and 42. Counters and Bartop heights.

Look at these pictures and if you have any more questions on bar construction let me know.

The ends were three layers of material rather than framed because I was conserving space for seating.

With the room with in a room design, how are you noticing your efforts? Sound being contained?

With three layers of DW and GG, when Vik cranks it up I can't hear it at all at my place.
Each layer of DW and GG adds more sound absorption making it keep sound inside the theater even more ? Correct ?

So then, does extra DW layer and GG improve the sound quality inside the theater at all ? Or is that strictly to keep sound inside the theater ?
Soundproofing is simply that. Keeping sound in or out. All that raw drywall will sound like a gym either way until acoustic treatments are introduced.

Thanks smile.gif
are all the walls just drywall, then paint, then covered in fabric? I didn't see any fibreglass or anything for room treatment? Are any panels or anything going to be installed?

There is an array of Linacoustic and Dacron Polyfill at locations specified by Dennis Erskine.

Some of it hanging around prior to installation:
