I agree that it should probably have its own thread but I don't see one for it so here goes. . . My construction was a rebuild rather than new construction so I only had to get two permits (HVAC & electrical). I hired licensed and bonded professionals for the couple items I couldn't do myself.

Big, your efforts are awesome. What you are doing for this build and the others is commendable....why isnt Big on tv, in a DIY Home Theater Build show!?!

I kerfed the heck out of the front edge of my stage, too. But that's only because I didn't know about "bendy board" (as Big calls it, brand name = Aztec) until WELL after. I also spent a week clamping mine and pulling it little by little until I felt like I could screw it in and not have it spring back out. I did use the Aztec when I made my proscenium. It's much light and easier to handle, but expensive. So it's a trade off.

Great work guys! Funny how I miss working with BIG on my theater but at the same time am happy I'm not. Building is rewarding and painful at the same time! Keep your momentum going!!!

how is the overall sound in the room? Pretty quiet?

That's a good question. However, best way to answer this is to consider the infamous and often misused Dolby speaker setup image.
I'm sure someone will post it.

Also interesting that the front screen wall is traditionally built, considering the builder "developed" the minimalist approach.

Will be interesting to see what design or structural elements led to this.

Do tell, SMB. Especially the part about misuse.

I want to thank Big for all his hard work. He has jump started my project and I could not be happier with the results. He definately knows how to build home theaters and anyone who needs some help with their project should hire him. He is very meticulous while building and takes the time to make sure it is built correctly. He also does a great job of explaining his methods and coaching you in the construction techniques being used. On a personal note, Big will be missed by our entire family (including the Boxer). We enjoyed the many stories he told while eating some home cooking from the wife.

Beats me. "Infamous" has a negative connotation and the graphic looks self explanatory.

So are you saying the guide itself is bad or that it is somehow often misinterpreted/misused?

It is often misused. While the graphic itself is a good representation of "what should be", there are a few things missing in the depiction that are often overlooked....like walls and more than one person. That's where things get a bit more interesting.

Guys - that looks amazing - esp considering that was 9 days of work!!!

I'm assuming since this room is fairly narrow, the left and right speakers had to be pulled to the sides of the screen in order to maintain sufficient separation (22-30 degrees +/- from center). Placing them all behind the screen would have put them too close together, resulting in poor imaging. Does it also help that the L&R speakers are pulled forward a bit? It looks like if you were to draw an arc from the primary seating position, the left, center, and right speakers would all fall on that arc. If everything was lined up behind the screen, the center speaker would be a little closer to the primary seating position than the left and right speakers.

You got it! Pulling them forward is really to maintain the same distance from the listener to the front three speakers. However, we have the capability to adjust for that in most AVR's or pre pro's, and once again, the focus is on a single listener in the diagram. It depends on the capabilities of the pre pros and what the graduations are for distance settings. Some can only go by 1 foot increments and that is too large in my opinion, so you can compensate by making the speakers equidistant. Having speaker's distances set inappropriately will cause imaging to be screwed up and it can be as little as 6 inches. It just all depends. I cannot comment though on what Dennis did or did not do...it's his design his decisions, so I would defer to him on that matter.
