I'm really enjoying 3D on the 5010!

Sammy has quite a few instances of crosstalk -- if you don't see it don't look for it. I didn't see any crosstalk with Happy feet 2 and then I specifically looked for it -- bad news, there's lots. The 5010/6010 are nice projectors, but they are not close to being crosstalk free. They're certainly better than most, but DLP's are considerably better for the tough stuff.

I remember reading somewhere that 3D is not transmitted over the wireless version.....is this true or just a rumour?

Okay, I realize that reading these forums presents a critical view towards this line of projectors... That's not a bad thing - it's just that it's more likely to see the extremes (good or bad) represented than your "average joe" projector user.

That said, the earlier conversation on this forum has me concerned about upside-down mounted 5010/6010 projectors. I'd definitely be mounting in this orientation, with VERY little lens shift required.

So? Is it doable? Is it a disaster? If someone has done this successfully without tons of distortion, convergence problems, and focus issues, I'd love to hear it.

I wish I could decide between the 5010 and 6010... The THX modes are attractive to me (I'm not interested in fiddling with settings) and the service/warranty seems nice. Unfortunately, I don't have any local dealers who are quoting me anything less than $750 more than the 5010... and I wish the 6010 came in white to match my ceiling.

Anyway, advice would be appreciated. Anyone with info on 6010 dealers - I'd love a PM.

Best wishes,
John

I've had my 6010 ceiling-mounted since I bought it a month ago, and the picture is perfect to my eyes. No distortion/convergence/focus problems that I've seen. Plus, see the discussion earlier in this thread and in this thread about a firmware update that may resolve these issues in the projectors experiencing them.

And by the way, I was fine with spending the extra money on the 6010. Not only does it come with 3D glasses, a spare lamp, ceiling mount, and an extra year of warranty, the THX modes sold me on it. To me, the THX modes make professional calibration unnecessary. I'm completely satisfied with the color and black levels using THX and THX-3D modes.

well, besides technical mumbo jumbo the 6010 is black. That alone is worth the extra bucks.

Noob question but I have a popcorn hour streamer that can only output 1080p side by side 3D. How do I put the 5010 in side by side 3d mode? Thanks

If AUTO does not work - use the 3D Menu - Side by Side works fine.

Can a put the 5010 in this box without using any additional projector mount? At this position, would the projector need to be up-side-down? I would prefer to mount it right side up and just sit it in the box up there if possible.

Answered my own question. Got the projector and set it inside thd box in my wall. It is right-side-up and it had no problem at all lens shifting onto the screen.

Picture 2d quality is fantastic as far as I am concerned... Havent tried 3d.

I heard that the 6010 where on back order for ever with units not due to come in til May
Is there any truth to that Rumor?

Also can any owners comment on the quality of the 6010 chasis?
From the pics i have seen it looks little cheap with weak type parts
but i have not seen one in person so i dont know

I have a similar set up with a high shelf mounting and a 154 inch screen. Much shorter throw distance though - only 15.5 feet - and that gets me a lumen boost. You may want to run it in living room mode and eco at that longer throw distance. That combo gives me good brightness and low fan noise.

I just had my user name updated. forgot how to log on. I have been reading threads for a while. I just got a 5010 about one month ago. Installed my screen this past weekend. This projector is great!

ceiling mounted, 21 feet away from screen, 106 in screen. in basement, but have windows to right, and sliding door behind. right now have white wood blinds so lots of light in. no problem at all with the ambient light. I keep my can lights above, the first two by screen I took out, the other four causes no issues to picture. everyone shocked at how good it looks during daytime. nightime even better.
It also has some lens shift. obviously lens shift down, and also is mounted about 3 ft. to the left looking at screen, so I lens shift to right as well. I am picky on good picture, so was very worried about lens shift. I can say no issues at all. very sharp picture with dish network, and ps3 games look unbeilievable and bluray as well. I do have issues with drift of lens shift down. not sure if unit or my mount (peerless low profile, looks great) so occassionaly have to move lens shift up. It does feel very "flimsy", but it does work effectively.

I have not tried 3d yet. I bought some panasonic 3d glasses, but did not work. any recomendation on 3d glasses?

one other comment, initially, I felt like I could not get the unit to stay focused across entire picture. I had it sitting on bar ledge about 22 feet from screen, straight on. I was constantly trying to adjust focus. However, after about 80 hours on unit, I felt like the sharpness and focus really improved. not sure if anyone else has felt that. now, picture seems to stay really sharp, and I do not mess with it.

Glad the 5010 is working out for you.
If you already haven't done so, read the initial post.
There's some good info & suggestions on issues & making menu changes.

hi every body just bought 5010 from projector people i got it yesterday, at night i set it up so the first thing i noticed was that the vertical lens shift dial was difficult roll at the first i thought i wasnt able to adjust ti at all so i pressed it really hard to move it because it was like stuck. well after adjusting the picture and playing clash of the titans i notice that the blacks were really good
then i turned on the auto iris thinking that the blacks and shadow detail would
improve but the improvement was barely noticeable. i tried different settings but i got the same results Is this normal? should i return it ? thanks

I'm a little confused by the wireless HD specs of the 3010e adn 5010e; I use my projector both for working from home and for theater/gaming, and I was hoping for a solution that would let me use widi from my laptop direct to the projector (i.e. without any additional dongle required). However, in reviewing the specs of both Widi and the 3010e/5010e I can't tell if they are directly compatible--and I'm guessing not since it appears the two are using entirely different technologies. Any insight would be appreciated.

Regarding the iris - seems like normal operation to me. Native black levels on the 5010 are good and the iris doesn't help much except on certain kinds of scenes.

I wouldn't say it's cheap, it's actually weighs 18.4 lbs .... but I didn't like the looseness of the lens shift dials. They do slightly interact with each other, ie., move the vertical shift dial, and the horz axis moves slightly, making the setup procedure a little tricky.

The incl. mount is of good quality, and the remote doesn't seem cheap.

+1 My exact feeling on it (esp the dials). Coming from my Sim2, I guess I was spoiled in that department, but the image is the thing and it's very nice. And jnabq - thanks!

I ordered an Epson 5010 today after much discussion, research, and agonizing over specs and $$.

Thanks to everyone , including Davecraze, for answering my questions.

The 3rd generation Panasonic glasses do work with the 5010. I ordered 7 pairs with my projector from ProjectorPeople and got a good price.

The part number at the temple of the large glasses is TY-EW3D3L (Last character L=Large, M=Medium, S=Small). IIRC, the second to last character (3) represents the generation of the glasses, 3 seems to be required.
