I do have one question for you guys and I know it has been covered before but I need some HDMI cables for this new projector. I need roughly 35 - 40 ft.

Do you guys recommend the blue jeans cables or should I wait for Monoprice to release their RedMere cables? Or could I get away with a 22AWG cable? I need something to support 3D, using a PS3(fat) for my DVD player.

At one time vendors use to claim HDMI 1.4a - but they can no longer use that claim.

Look for HIGH-SPEED in the Cable Claim.

I use Monoprice Cables - 35 ft. The heavier the wire gauge the better. I think I bought my last high-speed cable from Amazon.

COPY and Paste this in Amazon if you have an account there.

Download the zip file and read the upgrade instructions.
The last few steps detail how to check the FW version.

I just set up my new epson 5010 today, while watching some half-sbs movies, I noticed a great deal of motion blur in which when there's fast movement, I see really bad stutter. I am unsure of my fw version(just received the projector today) but I'm not sure if v 1.4 can fix this issue. Only watched Hugo for 10 mins and ended up with a headache thanks to the motion blur...it's practically unwatchable (I have enough brightness though).

I am using Gen 3 Panny glasses outputing from a HTPC. My gf said the moving object looks "transparent". I have tried low-high brightness settings, and none of those things help.

Any ideas?

I have 6010 and I don't notice any motion blur in 3D. We watched Captain America last evening and it looked great, my firmware is 1.4. I am also using Gen 3 Panny glasses.

I've watched Hugo and had no issues with motion blurring or stutter.
*I have Epson 3D glasses and watch blu-ray 3D.

1. Are you using blu-ray or streaming?
2. What is your signal chain from the HTPC to the projector?

There are two reasons for this.
1. Better watch full 3DBD rather than half OU or SBS. Clarity will be much higher, when compared, the difference can be seen with the naked eye.
2. Epson has no FI in 3D, so the image will always be a little stutter in 3D. This is a huge minus the Epson 5010, but the brightness in 3D is an even bigger plus.
Thanks for the replies. I will try full 3d bluray tonight to see if the problem is still there. Hugo was top/bot half sbs which may be a problem. I'll see if side by side also has problems.

When an object move or the scene is panning, my eyes are having a really hard time focusing on the object...as if the speed of my gen 3 panny glasses are not fast enough. Also when a scene change..the transition is not smooth..as if one eye still has the scene..and the other eye is black. I don't know if I am describing this right. But it is definitely causing a headache. The moving object almost looks like there is artifacts and transparent...like the triple ball effect with Fi on with older Samsung 120hz tvs.

I am outputting via hdmi high speed cable directly to the projector with my htpc.

Here is a $300 off coupon code I found BOUNTII . I am really tempted to go order one right now but kinda think it stinks that the iris does not work in 3D plus the ghosting stuff. I don't care about video games as I have never played them on my Epson ht pj

Edit: Would my 110" gray pj screen work for 3d ?
Does anyone know how to get the epson 5010 to work with nvidia 3d? I cannot set the refresh rate higher than 60, and my built in emitter is not on while going through the nvidia set up. Something I am doing wrong? I am using a high speed HDMI cable connected from the projector to the graphics card. Graphics card is a gtx 550ti.

Maybe the wrong forum to ask, but I recently bought 2 pairs of the Monster Max 3D glasses and am having a devil of a time getting them to sync and stay that way with the 6010. I personally find them a bit more comfortable than the Epsons that came with the unit, though the Epsons are not uncomfortable. Is there some trick as to where to best place the 3D emitter/rx for good signal? Thanks.

Mine work PERFECTLY.

Put the receiver in front of the 3D emitter.

Are you going to ask - where is the 3D Emitter?

Okay I finally got 3d bluray to play on my HTPC (stupid zotac gtx550 does NOT have HDMI 1.4, so nvidia couldn't detect my 3d projector). So after putting in a new graphics card and did the set up, I noticed that 3d HDMI only supports a refresh rate of 24hz@1080p(which is normal).

The stuttering issue I talked about is pretty horrible with my panny gen 3 3d glasses. If I drag a window around, I become dizzle due to the fact that my eyes can't focus on the image (as if the moving object is flickering). Watched tangled in 3d and noticed that any movement onscreen results in my gf and I having a hard time focusing on moving objects.

Should I change my glasses? Or is there a setting somewhere I am missing?

GIVE UP ON HTPC and use Blu-Ray

-sigh- I really don't want to switch back and forth between systems, and I like to have internet whenever I need it while watching a movie.

Shouldn't the projector output at 1080p@120hz?(60hz per eye?) How come I am only getting 24hz as an option? I think this is the reason for all the stuttering.

Uh, no - I know where the emitter is (and has to be to work), just not sure if there is some optimal location for the Monster rx unit. From the manual, it looks like the clear side (non branded side) should face the emitter, but how close or far? I thought putting it right in front of the emitter would be best but that seems to be intermittent. I also wondered what the little circle on the branded side was - looks a bit like a button and I thought maybe it was a mini-rx window, but the drawings seem to show the other side as facing the emitter. I'll scour the Monster site for more info.

If you LOOK BACK at the PJ - while in 3D Mode - you can see
the 9 or 12 emitters shining RED on the RIGHT side looking back
at the PJ, IF NOT Ceiling Mounted. I put the 3D receiver over one of
them in the corner.

I have a 6010 with the Monster glasses. You need to place IR sensor unit right in front of the Epsons 3D transmitter on the front of the projector. I used clear tape and taped it so it so it faced directly at the Epson's 3D transmitter. Once 3D is activated on the Epson, I see on the Monster transmitter that it's getting the signal. I usually get 4 to 5 green lights of strength. I've never had a problem with stuttering 3D with this set-up. I've also not played at all with settings. Everything is out of box settings.

I upgraded to firmware 104 and I haven't experienced it again since the upgrade. Waiting to see if it occurs again on firmware 104.

Just as an update, I installed the firmware 104 from Epson and the problem has been fixed.

I am currently 100% satisfied with the projector.

Will different 3D glasses have better image quality? I'm currently using the PS3 glasses, and I am wondering if a more expensive pair will produce a better quality 3d image. Or are the more expensive pairs just more comfortable? Keep in mind I will need at least 4 pairs of glasses.

I mirror your thoughts after buying the epson today

I have read the epson glasses thread with no definitive conclusion

I seem to think that the PS3 glasses tint the image, and I've read some good reviews about the MonsterVision glasses having almost none. I'm open to new options as my PS3 glasses also show reflections on the inside of the lenses, really takes you out of the movie.

Anyone here plugged the epson 5010 into a HTPC? I really need your help! Please pm me if you can!

I viewed some youtube sbs programs and the blurry/stutter problem is all over the place. So far I think the sbs images are out of sync, or the 3d depth is way too high..and it may be the projector..and not my computer. I have switched from nvidia to ati and the problem is STILL THERE!

I can pause the youtube video, and my eyes cannot focus on the moving objects...it is blurry and I may even see double vision.

So far, the epson 5010 hooked up to a HTPC is unwatchable(3d content only). I almost want to say my projector's sbs/TaB mode is broken or something. Also I see this with full 3d blu ray as well. I feel that it's a refresh rate problem..but I have no idea what to do.

Search the thread below for HTPC
This should return the posts/members who use a 5010 or 3D projector with a HTPC.
Send them a PM or maybe one of the posts in the search will answer your question/issue.

I called a friend with an epson 3010 + HTPC and he said the images are perfect with no sync issues with the images.

I then called epson about this problem and they said the 3d converging engine in the projector maybe be broken...so now I am getting a replacement. I'll report back later to see if this problem is fixed.

Is he using the same graphics card and 3D glasses?
Have you tried blu-ray player?

*Just be warned that getting a replacement may come with other issues. It's best to be certain the projector is at fault before getting a replacement. This goes for all manufacturers, not just Epson.

As I said already - I know where the Epson emitters are, they are quite easy to identify. I was more interested in how to best position the Monster RX unit. I see you posted a photo in a later response, and that is the position I had tried. I may have a configuration issue with the glasses and am going to re-run the firmware update and start over. I started out taping the rx directly to the emitter, as in your photos, and had issues. So, I thought maybe that was simply too close and overwhelming the rx. I then moved it about 8" in front, etc. I'll figure it out. Thanks for all the replies.

I positioned it with 3D active.

When I got 5 GREEN LIGHTS - I stuck it there.
