No

A sealed light path is very rare for an LCD.

I have, I used my PS3 and a couple of different bluray movies. I'm convinced my 3d engine is bad. I've seen the 5010 in action and it was nothing like my 6010.

I'll have to call Epson later and see what they say.

Anyone know when the 3010, 5010, 6010 prices might start dropping since the new epson line up was announced at IFA/CEDIA?

Thanks

UPDATE re: failed bulb at <400 hrs (5010)

Received replacement lamp yesterday. Once got home, installed lamp and powered up projector and ---VOILA!--- I almost cried when I saw the EPSON logo start to appear on my big screen. I am so relieved to finally know with certainty that it WAS a failed bulb and not something else with the projector (electrical short, failing ballast, fan issue). But I am slightly disappointed that my original bulb was a victim of premature lamp failure due possibly to a myriad of causes of which I will never discover. I hope the replacement bulb lasts longer than 1000 hrs...this time around I will religiously follow the ole rule of thumb: 2 hrs ON and at least 2 hrs OFF before turning back on.smile.gif

So what's the general final verdict on best 3D glasses for least cross-talks - Monster Vision or Sony PlayStation?
I've decided on waiting on the Epson 5020.

It will have 320,000:1 Contrast ratio and 2 free pairs of 3D glasses.

It's supposed to come out in October or November.

I have the Monster Vision & Epson and have yet to detect any cross talk or ghosting.
The Sony's are cheaper but I've heard they have a darker tint then than the other 2.
*The Monster will require the IR receiver to be close to the projector IR emitter.

I've used the Epson, and Sony glasses. The Sony's seem a little tighter, little less lens area, some reflections on the inside of the lens, and as Plasman mentions, little darker. But they are usb rechargeable which is nice. I didn't see any difference in ghosting, which is very little if any.

Panning Issues?

My wife notices this a lot more than I. But it seems that particularly on faces, close up, when the picture is panning, you can notice what looks like it is jittery, or maybe the impression of the face remains from the previous frame of the picture for just an instant.

Anyone else notice this? Is this a 'feature' of this projector (5010e)? Any suggestions for a fix?

I had an opportunity to play games on the 5010. For any fellow gamers considering the 5010: it is AWFUL for serious video gaming. I played a few matches of SSFIV and Modern Warfare 3 online and each and every time, I got destroyed. There was perceptible delay between when I pushed a button and when it would register onscreen. Unacceptable.

I'll wait for the 5020 which is rumored to have lessened input lag and possibly a dedicated game mode.

Hello,

I have a 5010 for about a month now and I really like. Coming from a 55" plasma to a 92" screen so, big difference.

I have read everything on here about the pixel alignment and also looked at a couple videos. I understand how to do it, as in how to access the menu and change the alignment and such, but I am not sure what to do.

Please forgive my ignorance, this is the first projector I have owned, and am not familiar with this adjustment.

When adjusting the corners it displays a yellow box over the box in the corner so I can't see the white lines anymore. What am I looking for there? If I adjust it a bunch I can start to see red or blue or whatever on the edges of the yellow box, I assume that is not right.

If someone could give me a bit of advice on what I should look for while doing the adjustment it would be greatly appreciated.
Don't bother if you don't have a problem. Most projectors don't have this adjustment. If necessary I explained it pretty well earlier in this thread.
Okay, thanks for your response.

I thought I looked through the whole thread but I missed your post. I will look for it now.

Where do you find when Epson issues new firmware for their products, such as the 5010 and 6010 projectors?

I have had two replacement 5010's - the last two had firmware v. 105 and the latest v. 106. How would anyone know WHEN new firmware is being offered from Epson - especially if / when new features are added or improved? I've checked their site, and I don't see anywhere a mention of 105 or 106 being available updates for those who might want them. Is there anything newer than 106? How would one every know?

The reason I'm curious at this point is that Epson is introducing the new models - i.e. 5020 and 6020, which have some improved features - such as being able to use auto iris in the 3D mode. Maybe Epson might make this available for the 5010 and 6010, if it's possible . . . but HOW would we ever know if they don't publish any links (let alone any details) for their newer firmware builds.

Does anyone who if Epson advises about new f/w releases anywhere?

Thanks.

Ian

106 is the most current firmware... Epson basically considers their firmware updates as "Top Secret" - they don't wish to publicize them, and don't really want end users to perform them because the upgrades are not a simple process for these projectors. The only reason we've obtained 104 and 106 firmware updates is when one of our members here contacts Epson support with a valid issue and Epson gives the user access to the firmware if they feel it will resolve their issue. This is usually only after a lot of prodding and repeated contacts to support by the user. Somehow the links/files then find their way on here...

Folks, got my 5010 setup a few days back.
When I stand up close to the screen with the projector in cinema mode, it almost feels like the image is pulsating. I don't see this in living room or torch mode
Is this expected?
Also, is blooming par for the course when lens shift is used. I see some blooming. But then again I am using most of my vertical shift (projector is ceiling installed)

The one added bonus with the replacement is that firmware version 106 is installed, which I understand is one of the latest versions. Is there a change log that shows what new versions improve / change? Does anyone know where to go to find on-line the latest f/w versions - or do you need to request this from Epson?
I give Epson A+++ for their top-tier customer care / service. It's seems they really take pride in client care . . . and it shows!

Hey teeger,
I think I am seeing something similar with my new 5010. It is ceiling mounted and is running firmware ver 106
Initially I just noticed a lack of sharpness on text.
When i went up close to the screen (Stewart firehawk G3) I could see smearing on the white text of the menu screen. I can see a greenish outline around the white text.
LCD alignment didn't help at all. In my case I am using a fair amount of lens shift

Was wondering whether u see any blooming on your new replacement projector when lens shift is in use
Then there is the other issue (posted above) where I noticed the image kinda pulsating when the projector is in cinema mode. Don't see this when the projector is in living room mode. Wondering if this is expected

EDIT: teeger did respond to my PM regarding this issue. Turns out that lens shift does contribute somewhat to the blooming. But I still wanted to understand a bit more about that other "pulsating" thing I am seeing with the projector in cinema mode. Looks like I don't see it (maybe very very little) when I use Natural mode

Just wanted to add that I notice this "pulsating" effect only when the projector's power consumption is set to Eco and color mode is natural or cinema
With Normal mode, i dont see this. Is this nothing more than the projector trying to manage power by managing the light intensity

Getting ready to mount my Epson 5010 and running into a small issue with Peerless PRG-UNV mount. I am looking for an extension pole (2 to 3 inches only) to bring down the PJ.
The minimum ext.pole available in peerless is 6 inches (fixed and Adjustable). How do i handle this scenario? I see many people are recommending to get ext pole from Home depot.
I see shorter size ext pole available with Chief mount - http://www.chiefmfg.com/Products/CMS003
is it possible to use this ext pole with Peerless mount and ceiling plate? I am little worried since i am going cross vendor.

Can someone post a link to the Epson 5010/6010 (TW9000) 106 firmware? and does it work on the European version of the projector as 104 did?

best regards

has anyone noticed that with the 3rd generation panasonic glasses they get what i would call some reflection on the inside of the glasses?
I dont get this with the epsons but i do with panasonics, and it reflects at the very top edhe.

I do wear prescription lenses so maybe that has something to do with it, yet the epsons are fine tho... just wanted to know if its the crappy panasonics as ill order more epsons instead
post #2457 of 3039
I actually prefer the Panasonic glasses over the Epson and do not see reflections you mention. I have 2nd and 3rd gen glasses, as well as, the Epson ones. The Epson glasses feel like I have ski goggles on, but I think I have a smaller head, I think the Panasonic 3rd gen in small fit the best and most comfortable.

Just some random thoughts.

I have a Jamestown screen. From start to finish it took me, by myself, 1 hr and 45 min to assemble and stretch the screen. All you need is two hands and a knee! I stretched two tabs with my hands, then put a knee on one side on the tubing to hold one tab down while still pulling the other side (tab) with one hand, grabbed the screwdriver right next to me and tightened screw. Came through it with a few scraped knuckles and a sore knee, but all is good. I can definitely see how a second person would be helpful, but NOT NECESSARY. First time around the screen stretching I ended up with just a couple wrinkle spots that were easily fixed with a second pull.

I have an Epson 6010 on it and picture looks great on the matte white! It was a little bit of a pain to get the image exactly right in position because when you dial the shift vertical, it also moves horizontally a bit as previously mentioned. It took a little back and forth to center, still no biggie. The room is 90% light controlled, with a little seepage of light out of the ends of a set of blinds. During the day I get a little light (not direct sunlight) on the left couple feet of screen, but it is no problem at all as I hardly notice with a picture on the screen. Nighttime, even better with no ambient light.

I watched my first 3D movie on the big screen this past weekend and all I can say is coming from my 65" (formerly owned 2011) and 60" (currently own 2012) Panny plasmas, there is no comparison to the 3D experience when seen on a projection screen. None. I was once a '3D bid deal' (sarcasm there) person, but now I am excited to watch all my 3D discs again!!! I am only left wondering why it took me this long to get a projector! If you can do it (space and money) and the only thing stopping you is the hesitation of the leap into it (projection was a little intimidating to me before I actually got it all done), I say just go for it! You will be just fine and more than happy enjoying the big screen!

One thing though, watching Comcast cable (any channel) on 130" is NOT as good as on a plasma panel (VT30 or GT50). Blu-ray is a different story, picture quality is almost or just as good and twice+ as big. At first I thought the blu-ray PQ was better on the projector, but it isn't, I think it was the shock and awe effect at first. smile.gif But I am not that disappointed because I know I will get use out of both systems for this reason, instead of always going into the projector room.

My eight year old son plays PS3 on the 6010 now and when I play with him (mostly Marvel vs Capcom, LEGO, and superhero games), I do not 'notice' any gaming lag at all. Keep in mind the type of games and level of play (very casual) and no online playing, YMMV.

If on a budget and getting your first screen, do not hesitate on the Jamestown projection screen. Just be willing to wait a month to get it. And I also am very pleased with the 6010, the deals out there now on them are too good to not pick one up. I see no point waiting for the 6020 unless you have the patience and want the very latest model. You weigh the decision accounting for diminishing returns on the 6020 and the full price you'll pay. It's a vicious cycle these electronic purchases, I was caught up on the LEDs and plasmas from 2010-2012 with the wait or buy game for a few years going from the B8500 LED to VT30 to now the GT50. I feel like I wasted money and won't do it again. Go for the 5010/6010 while they are priced right!!

I had actually ordered a 5010 over a week ago, but it still hasn't arrived at my vendor. With the 5020 release just around the corner, I'm thinking I should just cancel that order and wait for the 5020 since it's so close. anyone else doing the same?
