Also would you want the extra lumens gained from a filter for viewing 3D?
I'm not sure how much of a difference the filter would make in 3d mode as the modes in 3d don't seem much different as far as brightness is concerned. Adding the filter will probably not be much of an improvement compared to the standard 3d cinema mode as the filter itself will reduce the light output somewhat.

FW109 does not address delayed start-up with high fan, but it will at least get your projector to start and the lamp to strike. 109 deals with the key phrase here, which is "fails to complete..."

Let us know on this thread if it works for you.

If someone could post a link to the firmware that would be great, as I am getting this exact problem.
I used to get the high noise fan blinking light problem, but now I just get the blinking light and it never turns on no matter how long I leave it. Epson Australia have been no help.

Is Epson Australia service centre not willing to fix or are they not prepared to allow self applying the firmware update?

What's the latest recommendation for a reasonable price for lamp replacement?

Yeah, I haven't had a projector last long enough to need a new lamp yet. My third projector is lasting long enough I will sometime. Whatever you do get a factory lamp.

If your projector is still under the 2 yr warranty, call/email them and tell them your lamp has blown.
In most cases, they will ship you a replacement for free as long as you are under 2000 hours.

My lamp hasn't blown. I am under 2 years, but over 2000 hours. I want to get one to have on hand for when this lamp blows.

Hello,
I have been trying to locate IR codes for the 5010, unsuccessfully. Here is the issue. I have an iTach set up with Roomie Remote and am able to turn the projector On and Off via the IR blaster. (Still trouble shooting some Roomie activities.)
Houselinc, my Insteon desktop software, is able to control the iTach, but they only have Epson accessory or Epson TV listed for supported devices, not the projector. I tried the codes for those options but they do not work for the projector. I want to be able to power the projector On and Off with an insteon Keypad button. If I can locate the code, maybe I can do a custom command for this. This appears to be working for my Yamaha receiver. I did set up an event for the receiver to be turned off at 1am every day and want to do the same for the projector, so it is not left on as someone had a few posts up.
So, if anyone can direct me to the 5010 IR codes, that would be great.
Thank you,
E

You're probablly looking at $200-300 for a genuine Epson lamp.
Don't go cheap and get an OEM equivalent. Make sure it's an Epson lamp.

Check with the AVS science store or one of the supported vendors for this forum.

Thanks for the help. What do you suggest. I had my doubts about Roomie, but I challenge anyone to show me a system that is significantly better, if better at all, price dependent or independent.

Thanks for the reply. I do intend to get a true Epson Lamp.

I just checked a couple of the sponsors. One has one at a reasonable price, but the part number is not an Epson part number. It is V13H010L69. I'll see if I can find out how to tell if that is a valid lamp for my 5010e, and a true Epson lamp.
I was going to edit my last post, but the forum software here apparently doesn't allow that.

Just went to the Epson site, and I guess the part number for the 5010e is ELPLP69 , while the SKU number is V13H010L69. Interesting...I always thought a SKU number was a part number. I guess not.

Thanks again.

V13H010L69 is also the PN in the manual.

I would still ask though that it's indeed a true Epson lamp.

This happened to me a week or so ago. Fortunately my Capital One fraud protection blocked the charge and notified me. I called Epson and they straightened it out.

I can see dust specks on the "inside" of the lens. How do you think it get there? The air filter is fitted properly. So did dust went through tiny spaces near zoom/focus/lens-shift controls?
Can I do anything to clean it? Fortunately, this hasn't yet resulted in display of any noticeable spot on projected screen.

That is the POINT - dust does not show up on Screen.

Enjoy the PJ

Although reputable options sell it for $299 (e.g. Epson, B&H Photo),

here's a place in Houston with it on sale for $169 (can't tell if it's a genuine Epson lamp):
http://www.projectorlampsworld.com/epson-powerlite-home-cinema-5010-projector-lamp.html?utm_source=Amazon&utm_medium=cpc&utm_campaign=Amazon

Projector Zone in Portland has it for $266 (says its genuine Epson):
http://www.projectorzone.com/Epson-Projector-Lamp-V13H010L69-ELPLP69

Canadians can get it for $237 at Projector Lamp Source:
https://www.projectorlampsource.ca/epson_v13h010l69_projector_bulb.html

I'm just doing a little research expecting to go through the same drill soon with my 5010. BTW, I wouldn't cheap out either. If you figure out the cost per day, it's worth getting the real deal.

Thanks for the update, Tarfu. I thought 109 had solved my non-start-up issue (and according to Epson, it was supposed to have done), but the high fan and red temp light symptoms on my 6010 have kicked in again. Might have to follow your lead on that. Are you repairing or getting a refurb?

My 5010 suddenly got the high fan / no startie / flashing top blue light after 9m problem free frown.gif
Did the f/w to .9; still nothing.

Any one here in the UK, and can tell of their experience of how Epsom handled this please?

Thanks.

God forbid that the person might have some tips as to how to expedite the process.
Or things not to say.
Or any other thing.

I think they will give you two options, send it in for repair or exchange for a refurbished unit. I don't know if your warranty is different over there, or the same.(2yrs) I would just give them a call, and go from there. Did your lamp light ever turn red, or did yours just hang on the blue light flashing? I have 350hrs on my 5010 and I just had the high fan start, then the lamp light started flashing red. I waited another 5min, but mine never powered down, so I just powered it down manually. I'm going to see if I have any more issues before I give them a call about it. I'm pretty happy with my unit, and don't want to deal with a refurb. Good luck.

I can't help with your sensible and reasonable inquiry, since I'm an ocean away, and totally unfamiliar with UK operations.

Hope you post back as you learn more, since others would benefit from your insight.

Cheers Simon!

Yes, agreed.

Simon, the refurb or repair conditions under warranty should mirror what we have here in the US. But like ElectronicTonic says, if you have a good unit in all other respects, you should probably stick with it. Epson USA confirmed that it is safe to manually power down the unit if the fan goes into overdrive and the lamp fails to strike. For most owners, it seems that the high fan symptoms are not always repeatable.

Also, if you need fw updates I think it's better to get the manufacturer to e-mail or send them to you. In the US, this can be done by asking to be transferred to Epson Level 2 Support. This method benefits the manufacturer because it allows them to track any issues against batch serial numbers (and in the long run benefits us as consumers).
