Can you recommend a center channel for >$200 that would go well with my setup?

I have:
  • Elemental designs sub
  • 4 (old) Paradigm Titans that i'm using as surrounds
  • 2 (newish) The Speaker Company P6-Pr that i'm using as front right and left (should i move these to be surrounds and use the paradigms up front?
  • and a denon avr 3808ci

I have been using a Paradigm cc-150 but both speakers in it blew and i think i might as well replace as opposed to repair.

I have a budget of around $200. Should i go with another elemental designs product? Someone has some Paradigm cc90 bookshelfs and a center channel for sale on my local craigslist which is tempting

How the heck did you blow the original center?

I'm not really sure... I think i was streaming a Phish concert on a new years eve. Excuse my lack of correct terms here but the foam/rubber ring around the speaker has separated from the plasticy part of the speaker.

If so, your thread title should read: "Can you recommend a center channel for <</font>$200 that would go well with my setup?"

Thanks for catching that.

would that paradigm cinemea cc be a good match? The craigslist seller will sell the two bookshelves (cinema 90s) and center channel for $70...seems like a killer deal.

otherwise HarmanAudio.com has Infinity CC225 on clearance for $212

Unless it will be a hassle to remove them from their installation, why not try three of the Titans in front right now? It would be a perfect timbre match.

I guess i never thought of that. Does it matter much that the titans i have are from the late 1990's? I'd have to replace my current center with a new Titan, or throw a new titan as a side/rear

You have nothing to lose by trying. If they sound good, it doesn't matter how old they are. I just sold a Paradigm Phantom v1 pair a few weeks ago that I have had for years. They still sounded great.

If it does sound good, then why not run 5.1 until you can save up for a nice set of matching L/R/C that would be a good upgrade to your system?

What would be a good upgrade to my paradigms? I dont have a need or desire to go to crazy on a home theater but I don't mind spending a couple hundred per speaker. i was thinking maybe three of these elemental designs... Does $200 buy a "decent" speaker?

I wouldn't recommend Elemental Designs to anyone. There have too many discussions about customer service issues on AVS, such as this one: http://avsforum.com/avs-vb/showthrea...ight=elemental

But that's up to you.

any suggestions?

I have not heard those Paradigm Titans. Which version number are they? Maybe someone would have an idea then.

As far as $600 for L/R/C, the HSU HB-1 and HC-1 are popular.

For a little bit more, a lot of people like the Energy RC series, on discount: RC-10 and RC-LCR.

The Ascend Acoustics CBM-170 SE and CMT-340 SE are also often recommended on AVS (I think there is a sale price if you click the Thanksgiving Day Sale link).

Maybe someone else can offer additional speaker suggestions in that budget range.

Thank you for the links. Much appreciated. I'm not sure the version number. I looked at the tag on them and it doesn't say anything. They're literally from 1998 or 1999. I bought them at the same time as my center channel, which is a Paradigm CC-150 if that helps.

The speakers seem fine but i realize it's probably time to upgrade...
