*Official* Popcorn Hour A-300 / C-300 Thread - Page 7

I didn't notice this before, but I'm getting occasional frame skips on my Blu-ray rips (in MKV format). Doesn't happen with my Mede8er MED450X2 using the same settings. My PCH A-300 is set to 1080p/60 with NTSC/PAL/24. My receiver is set to 'through' for the video. I have the Optoma HD33 projector.

With my PCH, I even tried setting to Auto for the video, disabling NTSC/PAL/24, but still getting frame skips every few minutes, sometimes not for 10-15 minutes, then again. Never noticed anything like this when I had the A-210. Any ideas?

What is DAS? I use Windows Home Server. LVS, when you say setting Video Output to 1080P/24Hz mode, do you mean on PCH or receiver (I have an Onkyo TX-NR609). I've tried both and also one but not the other.

I was referring to Video Output setting on PCH.

Direct Attached Storage. Otherwise I would look to network issues.

I'll try a couple of those movies via attached USB and see what happens. There aren't any known network issues w/the A-300 are there? Especially as my Boxee Box and Mede8er play over network just fine. Will try NFS as well.

MKV is decoded in software and is processor intensive. That's why I rip to M2TS DAS. Never any playback issues.

Do you mean stutters? or something like a slight judder. the time it takes doesnt make it sound like a frame rate problem, as you would notice right away.

Judder every few minutes. Happened with my full BD rip (MKV) of 'The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo' (US version) last night.

Are you sure it is not just you twitching and taking it for movie judder???

Info is up on the blog now and the main site has been changed yet again. What this means is a lot more local (US) support, new upgrades and accessories (custom rack shelves, keyboards, etc.). And yes a Contro4 IP driver is in the later stages!

Tried same MKV over NFS and USB, and getting judders in the same exact spots. Doesn't happen with Mede8er or Boxee Box. I'm stumped.

Try the M2TS.

I would expect it is either a hardware or fw issue, not network related.

Okay, figured it out... bad MKV. I demuxed it via MKVExtract, and remuxed it via MKVMerge, and perfect playback via USB and SMB. Also, tried M2TS, perfect playback. Bad news is I think I have many of these and I think the culprit may be MakeMKV. Started using it in Fall of 2011 for ease of use (had been using Clown_BD until then), and now I'll have to redo maybe 80-100 MKVs. Sucks, but at least uncovered the problem.

Exactly the reason why you should have stuck with clownbd + mkvmerge. I never hear of playback issues with mkvmerge but frequently enough with makemkv.

Clown_BD seems to make better files these days, lots of strange one off bugs with makemkv

Yeah, I'm done with MakeMKV... back to Clown_BD .

M2TS for perfect playback and best PQ every time.

I hear ya. I just like MKVs cuz they're single files, have low overhead, and support chapters.

MKV actually has more overhead. Takes more power to split the streams out of the format and send them to the decoders. But i agree im all for MKV's lol

I ordered an A-300, how long should it take to receive it? Will someone please recommend a 3TB hard drive to install? Thank you for your time

Are they still backordered and working from batches? If so, which batch is yours? If not, then what availability was listed when you ordered?

Curious to know if anyone has switched from a Netgear NTV 550 and found the PCH A300 superior and more stable ? I am hoping to get excellent BD ISO SUPPORT with BD full menu, don't stream only use an attached USB drive. Thanks.

You can use the PCH this way with no issues.
