*Official* Popcorn Hour A-300 / C-300 Thread - Page 8

Maybe this week? Diamond Design is now carrying A-300, C-300 and PopBox v8, and hinted some good news for PCH this week. Hopefully, it's more than just news that they'll be carrying these players.

FYI they are all on a boat from Hong Kong. Goes from there to a train and then to us. Just under 20 days I think. Once the first batch hits there will always be some in the pipeline (or really on a boat) to keep it up.
There is additional news Brajesh. Keep up with the blog because I don't want to post it all on here due to the forum rules. Or feel free to email. Some new hardware goodies plus software goodies currently in the works plus basic upgrades like the dunes (pre-installed bd drive, dvd drive, HDD, etc. on 300 series).

Is anyone having lip sync problem with the A300? Regardless it's Flac, DTSHD-MA, TrueHD, the audio always is slightly behind! And it's does matter whether plays it locally or network. And I made sure the movie plays fine on a PC (via network) too. I don't see there's any setting to correct this (tried network speed Auto & 10/100, doesn't help). Unplug to restart it too, still no good. I think I remember it plays fine when I first bought it and tried. Any idea guys??

Receivers/processors typically have the circuitry to compensate for syncing problems.

How are you connecting audio/video to everything, You say truehd which I assume you are going into an AVR for your audio and video which is strange as your AVR should handle the sync by itself then.

Audio behind video is very rare, and almost always due to some processing in an AVR. There is no fix for audio lag in any devices that I know of. They all offer audio delay but no way to delay video. Other causes of audio lag could be some versions of wireless audio links or extensive audio loops via multiple components. More likely that you have audio delay enabled in an AVR, source device (A300), etc.
Many AVRs let you adjust audio timing. Make sure your audio delay in your AVR isn't set to something you don't expect. Maybe in an auto-setup routine it adjusted the center channel delay. Probably not but worth looking at for sure.
I'm sorry, I meant audio is faster than the video. I've checked the lip sync option in the AVR (yamaha RXV1800), played around the setting, still no good unless I manually adjust the ms, but then it will affect all source too (e.g. DirecTV, Bluray player, etc.).

The reason I asked in here is because I only have this problem when playing ripped bluray movie (or even the downloaded Reference BD disc over at the Dedicated Theater sub forum). DirecTV, movie disc played from Bluray player, all are fine.

And I do remember it plays fine before.... Don't know what did I do.... May be I'll re-run the AVR setup again and see....

Thanks for all the advice guys!

Video lag is a common issue with displays when doing 24p processing. You'll need to suss out the appropriate setting in your display to eliminate that, suggest checking the appropriate display thread for help. But it's not the player or AVR causing it, it's the display. BD discs are the only source of 24p content.

Some of the newer AVRs can allow separate audio delay settings for each input.

I guess I've solved my video lagging problem. It turns out if I turn on the Bluray Full Menu/navigation, the video will lag behind. If I use Simple BD menu, then everything is fine again. So I guess it (A300) doesn't like Full BD menu after all......

So, where's the PCH news/announcement for this week? There's still rest of today, but surprised nothing has been posted yet.

I think the announcement was diamond is switching from dune to PCH and making there ip controller drive for the pch now.

Well we did annouce some new hardware in addition to the software (driver).
It should mean a lot of development and also a presence at your local dealers now (and more dealers means more development due to user requests and feedback).
Sorry Brajesh, didn't mean to be anti-climatic

Thought there might be something from Syabas for 300 series and PopBox v8. Oh well.

If they could figure out the timing issues with PGS subtitles in MKVs, the c200/300 player would be perfect imo...

Beta on the 200 series have has two reports that PGS in mkv made with MAKEMKV is almost perfect if not perfect. I no longer have a 200 series to test myself so holing out hope it makes it into the next 300 series firmware.
I've not been told this by the factory so its clearly an unofficial thing but I wouldn't expect to see 1080p 3D and the 8910 sigma chip this year.

That would be a dream if it does get fixed... There is currently no "perfect" player, but this fix would make the c-200 perfect imo... Any idea of when this beta will see a public release?

Also can't wait to step into the next generation of 1080p 3D capable players... Thanks for the heads up Diamond... Keep us up to date...

My order was just processed for the next batch of A-300 boxes to ship. How long should I expect to wait once it ships?

Mine shipped on a Friday and I received it on Monday. I was shocked that it arrived so quickly.

Yes
But it's still like the 200 series isn't it? Only the C300 can be used with a USB BD rom drive and a disc because it has a BD license. Is that still correct?
I don't think any PCH products have a BD license. If they did, they'd need to enforce Cinevia. I don't see that happening as it would be the end of them. I don't know how Dune is going to handle it ... my guess is that they'll drop the BD license.

My $.02.

The c series has a bd license, otherwise you wouldnt be able to add a bd rom drive

Well, it will be interesting to see whether they maintain that going forward. I don't see how they can.

I wonder why the Blu-ray logo doesn't appear anywhere on their site or the unit?

Agreed. The BD License is needed, otherwise if you connected a BR Rom drive on a media player it won't work (which is why just about all the media players out their don't support BD drives). The Dunes are still running the SMP8642s which at this point I doubt will ever get exposed to Cinavia. Going forward though every new chip is fair game so who knows (not sure if the 8646 in the C300 is exempt as well, or a better way to put it, whether Cinavia will be implemented).

Is the movie industry making moves that will eventually prevent us from streaming from our local digital storage?
