This should be moved to the LCD forum (you posted in the Plasma forum), but an LED TV is still an LCD TV, it's just that the light source used to illuminate the LCD panel is a bunch of LED lights instead of the traditional CFL backlight. Almost all of the LED based LCDs are edge-lit which are cheaper to make, but they market them as if they're superior to a traditional CFL LCD TV. Edge lit does enable them to make a slimmer TV, but that also introduces adverse issues compared to a backlit CFL LCD. There are a few very high end LED LCD TVs that are LED Backlit (such as the Sony HX959 and Sharp Elite) but backlit LED TVs are very expensive.
Since you're in the UK, you're better off using the UK-based AVForums LCD forum - your TVs are very different than the American models discussed here....http://www.avforums.com/forums/lcd-led-lcd-tvs/
