Not counting dual's of any one sub there seems to 12 different subs. That's a pretty large number. It might be easier to do an informal listening session. Hopefully there can be some measurements. Is there a specific list of scenes already in place that will be used?
A listening session works for me. There are alot of subs for one day and adding messurements to it would make it a even longer day.

I agree it is a lot of subs/listening for a single day. I also think it's a good idea for attendees to jot down their subjective thoughts for each sub (or pair) and later share them here on the forum.

Listening clips - I know Mike has the standard Blu Ray Demo disc with all the popular LFE Scenes. I know that can get really repetitive, so maybe we can come up with an agreed list of music clips as well based on the eclectic taste of the group.

As for measurements - a simple sweep of REW or omnimic shouldn't take too much time for each sub assuming we already have the equipment calibrated and running? We could also grab some rough RS analog SPL numbers from a consistent location using the same scenes on Mike's Demo Blu Ray Disc. That way we at least have some quantifiable measurements for each.

don't care one way or the other...

just want to meet some of you guys, listen to subs, eat some pork and have a good time... if it resembles "work", it won't be much fun...

let's face it, no matter what "evaluations" we do, they'll be picked apart endlessly...

the road to hell is paved with good intentions...

On AVS? That would never happen....

More fun, less work - sounds like a plan!

I think you're on to something. My suggestion around grabbing some quick REW sweeps was for the benefit of the other users on here that aren't able to attend. But then again, like you said, such measurements can cause more controversy and can be of more harm then help.

On a related note, given the potential for a really solid lineup of subs this day, I'd recommend anyone in the market for a sub that is within any type of reasonable commuting distance attend.

I think we can take some basic REW or OmniMic measurements without slowing things down too much - can probably be done while we setup and level match the subs. Just looking to avoid listing to more sine sweeps than demo material.

Agreed, I guess we will see how it goes.

Now, on to important things like food and beverage.

My tastes are probably pedestrian compared to most. Pizza(plain, pepperoni, sausage). Cold cut hoagie(again, plain). I Like BBQ but I don't think I have ever had a pulled pork sandwich. I am a soda and water drinker. I don't know what else everyone has in mind. I am sure whatever you guys get it will be very tasty.
So this is some time in February? Do I have to have a subwoofer in the line up to attend?

Yes, we are planning February and you do not need a sub to attend. Most attending will not be bringing subs anyway.
Pizza is fine. Quick and easy. Chips and some dip. Soda and water is fine. Again, I would love to try the pulled pork. Less the beer, at least for me, I have a long drive home. Can I bring a guest?

Of course. Are you hinting at bringing a designated driver so you can enjoy some adult beverages? Just kidding.

Random question - Has anyone here tried a Peavey IPR6000? Is it even out in the market yet? Not many seem to carry it, but at it's price and power point it seems rather appealing. In fact, it's price to performance ratio is almost too good to be true.

A similar thought had occurred to me as well. I live in the NW corner of Joisey, so this is probably as close to me as one of these things will ever be. But I'm the dude who tests the budget subwoofers, and maintains the eponymous thread, so sure as h#ll I won't have anything worthy of inclusion...

I just need someone to help split the drive back. We have a place in upstate NY and it's 2.5hr drive each way. The wife usually sleeps along with the dog and the kid. LOL. I use to do that without breaking a sweat but now, I rather split the drive.

Still it would be nice to see a budget subwoofer in the mix so there can be more people with experience stating that the extra $300-$500 is actually worth it.

Unfortunately there are hardly any good reviews of budget subwoofers

I have a Polk PSW505 laying around I could bring over if that would help. It seems to be one of the more popular budget subs. I just sold a Klipsch RW12 which is a shame because it would have been cool to compare them. At least the Polk is easy to transport.
There are plenty of threads about budget subwoofers. We would never have enough time to test all of them.

True but none with real hard numbers and charts why does that have to be reserved for just the $600 + subwoofers. In plenty of those threads people want to know what spending alittle extra will get them. Throwing one budget subwoofer is a great way to start IMHO from looking at the Kansas city test.

Though I am an outsider with no plans on attending just giving my opinion on what could further help the forum

That's so true, including my own unfortunately. Thus far I've reviewed an XTZ 99 W10.16 and the Theater Solutions Sub12D. I just finished evaluating the Technical Pro SW1201, and now I have to write the actual review. My next project will be the OSD PS10, which should be delivered in a day or two. After that I was thinking about either the NXG NX-PROSUB125 or NX-PROSUB300.

Mike - do you have another room we could set up a basic setup for the budget subs? Perhaps that may speed things up, even if it's a music only setup.

All - I was thinking we could make this kind of a swap meet as well. Any interest here? I know I have a few subs, amps, eq, etc I may want to sell and this would avoid the hassle of shipping.

I have the office but you would be able to hear it in the living room. Honestly I really don't think we are going to have the time for that. We will already be pushing it by thoroughly testing the 6 big boys. If anything we can put a music setup in the kitchen by the food since the two rooms are at opposite ends of the house. When the weather gets nice we can open up the deck and bring a sub and some speakers onto the deck.

The swap meet idea is great. Everything of mine is always for sale...not because of problems or a dislike but more because I just like trying new products. I would trade my subs for something comparable no problem just for the opportunity to try something new.

That looks like a good list. I would keep those movies but maybe add just one or two quick scenes
EX
WOTW-Truck flies into the bridge
HTTYD Big Dragon at the end
Cloverfield Bridge collapse and when they run into the train station.
Just a thought. It should not add that much more time and those three seem to be very powerful and very loud.

Terminator Salvation is another good one, the scene with the HUGE terminator that releases the motorbikes. You already have a ton of great scenes, but I'm just throwing that out there.

Not really I pretty much have everything...if it came out in the last 3 months tho I don't have a copy that will be able to find certain scenes quickly. I do own quite a large collection of 5 star bass movies according to the sticky in the subwoofer section. I also have scubasteves demo disk which includes a section dedicated to the LFE. The disk contains about 40-50 clips that were handpicked for what they offer in LFE, surround, a visual section and a utility section. I can make copies for anyone who attends but you guys will have to supply the dual layered 50GB blu ray recordable disk. They go for around $10-15 for blanks. Anyone who doesn't own one of these should get a copy especially if you love to show your system off. Since I have the burner I'll hook up as many guests that I can but burning these disks takes an hour each.

Anyone wondering what they can bring:
Food
Beer/soda
Apps
Anything we might find interesting...

Also another question I wanted to pose to everyone is do you guys want to involve our significant others as well? I'm up for any and all suggestions on whatever you guys think that could make this the best G2G ever.

Sounds interesting but the last thing I need right now is to buy another sub, LOL. Post a price though for anyone else who may be interested.

I may also offer my 2011 CHT SS18.T setup for sale - with or without the EP4000 if there is any interest. I'm kind of similar to Mike in that I like to try various setups along the way. I'd doubt if these subs are even broken in yet - less than 50 hours total.
