The funny thing is you can buy it online and pick it up in the store for the price they weren't willing to give you in the store

I just tried this. Added the unit to my cart and went to check out. It's listed at $3,499.99 all the way through the payment section.

I'd like to get the unit for $2,999 from them and take advantage of their 36 month financing. Don't want to spend $3,499. I know amazon has it for $2,999 by they also charge tax to NY. I emailed OneCall.com and asked if they would match Amazon's price - just received confirmation they would. They don't charge tax to NY so I think that may be my go to place. Anyone deal with them in the past? I bought my current tv from them in 2005, no issues, but you never know, things may have changed.

Thanks,
dr

I have dealt with OneCall it he past and had no issues with them. It was years ago, but I purchased a receiver and speakers from them. It all arrived as promised, well packed and at a decent discount. They are the online storefront for a B&M store in Spokane called Huppin's that launched OneCall.com in 1994 to expand their business nationally.

OneCall is a well-regarded company. No problems going with them.

+1 on OneCall. Ordered an Onkyo receiver from them and it was double boxed, good price.

US Appliance has the 65vt30 in stock again. I went to the checkout process and it is showing as $2,597. Hurry up for anybody who is ready to pull the trigger as it may run out of stock again

Why spend so much when you can spend much less at good stores?

Bill their listed price on the 65VT30 is the same as BB and others right now.

Granted, the 65GT30 looks like a great deal from BH though.

I was able to get one in my cart, and it shows $2,597 at checkout. But in a fresh window, it shows "Out of Stock" (which sucks because then Amazon won't price match it).

Now, if I go through with my order in the cart (assuming it lets me), what are the chances this actually happens, considering a fresh screen shows out of stock?

My bad, I meant to put a search in for the VT, not the GT.

Best Buy price matched Fry's price for me yesterday. Last Saturday I got a printed quote at Fry's for $2,799. Yesterday it was no longer on sale at Fry's, but BB matched the quote. I'll have my set on the 11th. Lewisville, TX.

I got lucky a few weeks ago. Same scenario . I had my doubts . But us appliance came through for me. Tv arrived in great condition. Good luck!

I, on the other hand, got nervous and didn't want that much change tied up on an order where I had no idea if they had stock or not (or at least not tied up while it showed "backordered" for the next several weeks).

So, I called US Appliance the next morning with it still in my cart, and they confirmed it was indeed out of stock and they would not be able to honor the order if it came through. I was bummed.

Your post is giving me some confidence to maybe try this if I can somehow get it in my cart again. After all, it is $200 cheaper than anywhere else right now (and $300 cheaper than Amazon). Is it worth the $200-$300 gamble? Or how would the scenario play out if it was delivered damaged, or with green blobs, pink tint, etc. I'm assuming a replacement from US Appliance would be dicey. Amazon's convenience is worth a lot - how much, that's the question?!

As the thread starter I thought it was only fair to share my experience. I bought the 55VT30 in mid-December from Amazon. For over a month I tried all the recommended procedures and calibration settings found in this forum. Long story short is this...I just wasn't happy with the picture and couldn't ever get it to my liking. Yes, the blacks were good, but unfortunately the screen was so dark it made everything look (to me) like a funeral on a cloudy day. My friends agreed. (I watch in a fairly dark room so that wasn't an issue). I could force the brightness and contrast to try and brighten up the picture a bit but when I did so, the great blacks disappeared and all the colors and everything else would get washed out. I wanted it to work but after wrestling with it for over a month I sent it back.

My 2006 Panny TH-50PX60U still looks great for a 720 set and its going up to the bedroom. My friend has an old Pioneer Elite plasma and it is still the best picture I've seen but the new plasmas just aren't doing it for me.

Although I never thought I'd leave plasma behind, I just got my new Sony 55HX929 today. All I did so far is just turn the backlighting LED down (it was too bright out of box, set on max) and choose Warm2. I haven't even calibrated yet and already it looks (to me) so much better than my VT30 did. Crisp, clear, great color (and blacks), great depth. I am confident already that for my eyes I made the right decision although it cost me a freakin' thousand dollars more!

I'll leave this thread up for y'all VT30 deal hunters. Good luck

Congrats on the 929! I agree that the XBR HX929 is amazing. I have the 55" version too! The blacks on the 929 are better than on the VT30 [ I have this one too ]

BTW, don't get alarmed when you go into the menu and see clouding. Local Dimming is disabled in the menu and also when browsing the net. I don't know why Sony chose to do this, but that's just how it is.. Also, if you notice Banding, give the set ~ 100 hrs. It *should* go away at that point.

Moving on, unfortunately, the VT30 I got from Amazon last week is defective [ bunch of dead pixels ] and Amazon can't send me a replacement because they're OOS on the 55" and will not be getting anymore 55 VT30s

Picture of Defect : http://www.flickr.com/photos/3532597...3103/lightbox/

What I like about the VT30 over the 929 is the picture detail. I have both TVs set up next to each other and, running both together on BR [ Panasonic 210s hooked to both and running IMAX Under The Sea BR on each ] there is significant difference in the details.

The VT30, even with inferior blacks to the 929, has more depth and the overall PQ is sharper to my eyes. I also love the off angle viewing on the VT30. The 929 washes out a bit.

If I can get a decent deal [ sub $2500 ] on the 65" VT30, I'm jumping on it for sure!!

AVS has filters that blockout certain words, companies and sites the powers that be don't like.

Easy enough to get around if you really want, just put s p a c e s between the l e t t e r s.

FYI - BB has the 65" VT30 for $2,800 in store. Just pulled the trigger - have a Wednesday delivery date. Hopefully I get late build date, otherwise 30-day return policy!

Good luck!

Unfortunately, before taxes. No negotiations - walked in and asked for the price. Bought the tv and a denon 2112ci with their 36 month financing deal they have going on. I probably could have saved some $$$ by purchasing online, but the ease of returns out weighed the savings.

I did not opt for the protection plan ($500 for 4 years!!) but was intrigued once they said that burn-in was covered. Have others purchased this? Thoughts?

Thanks,
dr

I did the US-Appliance price match to Amazon for the 65VT30 on Dec 11. The CSR was very helpful and when she checked US-App they were showing free standard delivery so I got lucky with that....$2,497 for me shipped from Amazon. Got it Dec 19 with an Oct build date. Outstanding plasma television! Thanks so much to this forum.

P.S. A couple weeks or so later I found out on another forum about the Discover Card email code for 10% off HDTV's purchased from Amazon. It had expired by then...ouch! Some people on that forum did get my deal plus an additional $249.70 off! I am still thankful for the price I got though.
