Panasonic 3rd Generation 3D glasses. Model TY-EW3D3MU. (that last "3" tells you it's 3rd Gen, the "M" towards the end means size Medium)

Compare TY-EW3D3MU (3rd Gen): http://www.amazon.com/Panasonic-TY-E...=2SE1JG8WV7K6M

To the TY-EW3D2LU (2nd Gen): http://www.amazon.com/Panasonic-TY-E...8774698&sr=8-7

I won't bother with the 1st gen junk... many issues reported. I'd pass on the 2nd Gen, too, frankly... better to go with the Sony Playstation glasses.

In sum: If you can afford the relatively high cost, and can find a pair (eBay is a pretty sure bet, anything else is a long shot), the Panny 3rd Gen is the best.

In all other situations*, I'd get the Sony PS3 glasses: http://www.amazon.com/PlayStation-3-...1688507&sr=8-1

* If the PS3 glasses are just too heavy and uncomfortable, the SainSonic glasses are the best alternative that weigh less, but there is a minor impact on image quality.

The new 4th Gen glasses that are starting to come on the market are only for the new 2012 Panasonic TVs (ST/GT/VT50 series), which use Bluetooth instead of IR to communicate with the glasses, so they're not what you want.

Only in the store. I have the ST30. Almost all other reports concur with my recommendations, however.

I am still hunting for the deals for panasonic tcp65vt30, have been tracking price on amazon for a bit, but cant be sure what price point will be rock bottom or atleast close to it. Anyone anticipates ? Maybe someone has thoughts on how low the last few vt25's went last year(2010)?

Basically, I need to understand the pricing model for these tvs and be able to determine what the dealer invoice on these tvs is - ANyone care to explain - did some googling but could not get a specific answer.

Trying to find dealer invoice is usually somewhat futile and it's not consistent anyway. Prices sometimes drift below them anyway on close outs. It's not like shopping for cars.

In terms of rock bottom, the VT30 has been available online from top sites with free shipping and no-fault return policies for under $2,400 numerous times in the last couple of months. That price never seems to last long before the places selling it run out of inventory and it drifts higher again. Amazon has matched this rate several times but only when there is provable current in stock at the place. For people with a Frys nearby they had a spectacular in-store only close out at $1,600 recently, but most people reported these turned out to be demo and floor samples, with a couple exceptions. I doubt you will find that price again for unboxed new.

Previous years are not a great judge for this year. Inventories have not been as glutted as in recent years.

Good luck.

I, too, was looking for that killer deal on the 65VT30 to replace my three year old TH58PZ850u... but on Saturday, I saw that Amazon temporarily dropped the 65GT30 to $1812 (no tax or shipping) so I pulled the trigger. It'll be here Wednesday morning. At that price, I'll save the money now and replace it in two years when the next generation comes out.

This site and thread were incredibly beneficial in my shopping, so thanks to all!

I toyed with jumping on that deal but held off. The general buzz (no pun intended) is that but for the design (which is unquestionably nicer on the GT), there wasn't any major feature or PQ difference between the GT at the ST. The only real feature advantage is THX, which means nothing if you plan to use the excellent calibration settings provided free on this forum anyway. And the ST is now down to high-$1,579's (or $1,299 if you happen to be lucky enough to live near select Frys Electronics).

65GT30 is now $1,796 on Amazon.

Just got mine last week from ABT $2426, free shipping and no tax. What a TV, even the wife admits it!
They also guarantee low price for 30 days. I'm reading about these slides to break it in, where do you purchase them?

They are free to download. Just put them on a spare USB stick or old camera SD card you may have laying around, they're tiny files that should fit on anything. (I think the drive/card has to be FAT32 for the TV to recognize it, though, so older is better)

Just download the free zip file (towards the bottom of the Downloads page).

Amazon sells several brands of third party 3D glasses that work with the Panasonic starting at $39/each that are in stock. The reviews are mostly positive. A few people will say they notice the Panasonics are better but plenty of others don't notice the difference and the cost is much less and availability higher.

Hello from Spain!!!

I´m new on the forum, and would like some advice.
I´m interested in buying the 65vt30 which I can get here in spain for about 2700euros (I don´t know why, but they´re always more expensive here in europe ), but I have been reading and there is a lot of talk about the bug with the green blobs.
Has this been solved?
How bad is it?

just ordered the 65 ST30 on a price match of frys through amazon for 1299. I know it's the lower model but I couldn't believe the deal so I jumped on it.

They are only doing this when they call the local store and confirm it in stock, which is not common, and they aren't shipping so no one not near one of those stores is being matched. You must be one of the lucky one's that lives near of one of the Fry's B&M stores that still have it in stock.
I do live near a lot of Fry's but none of them had it in stock. I just got lucky with the CSR I guess. They did add a 50$ shipping charge to bring it up to 1349.

Did the CSR attempt to check inventory before proceeding? Or your address?

Hard to say if they just got sloppy because you were near a Frys but rep after rep and their supervisors have been very adament that they won't match for many of us who don't live near a Frys. I wasted a lot of time on it to no avail.
They did ask for my shipping address when i first got on the call, before i even told them what i was trying to do. i figured that was for account verification more than anything.

He did act like he was doing me a favor, but CSR are always like that so I didn't pay it any mind.

I live by several Fry's, too, but only one about 40 min away had any in stock. I wanted to try to get a price adjustment, because I paid $1500 for it at Frys just over a month ago, but decided it wasn't worth the hassle.

Still, at $1500, I'm still reasonably happy with the deal I got on my 65ST30, and LOVE the set!

Good to hear, can't wait until it gets here. Upgrading from a sony SXRD set that has been great to me but has fan noise coming from the optical block so i know it's just a matter of time.
