Seriously I can move an antenna as little as a couple of feet and go form getting in a strong signal to zero signal. And that goes for vertically as well as horizontally. You just can't place an antenna in 1 or 2 spots and say "Oh well doesn't work".
I put the antenna on the 25ft of cable I bought and tried all the locations along it either way, seems that each channel has its spot and no configuration or location have gotten in all channels on a reliable and consistent basis. The channels will fade out like a cliff and won't return till I find another spot. Rinse and repeat.

8VSB has been berry berry good to me.
Try a normal set top antenna, it probably wouldn't work.
