Sharp Elite return thread

Reading through the owners thread of the Sharp Elite it amazes me how many sets have been returned for replacement. I'm not really so much concerned with why unless you won't to post a reply but it would be interesting to see how many owners have returned their sets. I think Sharp has been great in working with owners and replacing sets without much fuss but it seems like an abnormal amount are being returned. Wonder where they are all ending up at?

What's your purpose or intent? Is there some kind of end game to this survey? Considering the actual owner base of the Elite dwarfs membership on this forum all your doing is surveying the OCD members of this forum which is but a fraction of the owner Universe - Most owners of any panel will never bother to come here so your numbers won't mean jack to the Elite consumer as a whole.

You'd be better served and this forum to survey owner satisfaction considering this is the highest rated LCD ever by virtually every professional. Is anyone returning them to downgrade to another panel? How many. Sorry, but I don't get your point since your numbers won't mean alot considering member base here does not come close to representing the Universe of Owners in N. America.

Wanna see return history go look at the Samsung D8000 - I own one (60") and would've returned it for a Sony 929 65" or Elite 70" if my Vendor carried it but they didn't and the Samsung D8000 has been littered with returns since it's debut last spring - you want to see return history go look at the friggin D8000 thread - Samsungs top of the line micro-dimming fraud.

How do you insure that someone posting in the survey actually owns the set rather than being someone who is promoting FUD regarding the Elites? These types of polls are useless IMO.

Westa, I realize from reading many of your past posts that you're the resident Sharp rah rah guy and that's fine if that's who you want to be. My interest is only in the fact that I might look to purchase one in the next couple months and I am seeing a trend in the owners threads of a lot of returns. If I was interested in a Samsung then perhaps I would conduct a poll on that set, but I'm not. No reason to be so testy regarding this. If I was to purchase one I'm not anxious to have to return such a large and expensive set for an exchange and being here on AVS for as long as I have and being a long time AV enthusiast I consider this the perfect sampling core of who I am.

There are never any guarantees as I don't know for a fact someone voting they have never returned a set actually owns one either but I do have a way of having a pretty good idea if the vote is legit or not. The poll may be useless to you, but it's me that I'm doing it for and somone else who may be interested in the same information. I do appreciate you voting.

not sure how effective this poll is but I voted:

I have the original 60 inch set I purchased and have no complaints: a keeper for me: my only regret is I should have bought the 70 inch model

my opinion only

If the owners from the owners thread who have at least already stated that they have or haven't replaced their set it would make the poll more accurate. This poll isn't meant to put the set down as I agree that it's the best set available at this time.

I got the 70". Blows my old Pioneer PRO-141FD out of the water. The Signature Elite is no longer king. My set performs without a flaw. I just had it calibrated and it is truly stunning. Can't wait for the 80" version next year.

I'd like to see that these percentages look like with all of the "owners" posting their experiences...puts things in perspective for us prospective purchasers. Even if all of our AVS owners posted, we'd still have a pretty small sample of purchasers, me thinks.

I will attest to the fact that Westa is the Sharp "Rah, Rah" guy, but since he has bought a number of them and been happy with them, I can't say he isn't deserving a little cheerleading.

I think what you are seeing is the people who buy sets with the unrealistic expectation that no matter how much they examine it, they will not find some defect or flaw. I have noticed time and time again here on these pages people who seem to enjoy complaining about their sets more than watching them.

I finally went into see a Elite set last weekend and while I was sure that it was going to be good, I was just surprised at how good it was. After having spent $4K on a 52" Sharp D62U 5 years ago, I started to think how much could be had for my money now.... Of course, the set I have now works just fine, yes I read all the bad posts about all of the screen defects and decided to ignore it and just watch the set, that is what I bought it for.

BTW, I don't think the poll will help you much with your decision.

You're probably right as it seems the majority of owners are refusing to post their results for some reason even though they have already stated they returned a set or haven't in the owners thread. Just was hoping to condense it down to a specific point I was looking for.

The Sharp 52" was actually the first set that got me interested in a new HDTV as it caught my eye in a Magnolia back when they were just being bought out by Best Buy but still had stand alone stores. I was looking to replace an older Pioneer Elite 51" RPTV. As I continued shopping and exploring what's available I finally settled on a Pioneer plasma and have been very satisfied. I'd like to step up to about a 60" next and hoping in a couple months when it might be more practical the prices have had a significant drop.

I agree that it's the best set available at this time.
