Lumagen support

Thread Starter
Have been working with Randy at Lumagen for upgrading my Radiance XD to 3D to support the new Sony 4K I plan to get. He is terrific to work with and it's great to get this level of knowledge and support on what is truly a world-class product.

Never had contact with Randy, but it's a blast to be in contact with Jim and Patrick. Lumagen is fantastic at customer support, especially when it gets very technical to a level where other companies would simply drop out of the communication.

I realize this is kind of a noobie question but can any XD be upgraded to 3D with software only? Do you lose anything going with a software upgraded XD vice an XS or XE?
yes you can just buy a software key to unlock 3 on XD,

You lose nothing with regards to 3D video over an XS or XE.

Thanks Gordon so the only difference between an XE and XD is the hardware? What do you lose there?

just the audio passthrough features for HD bitstream formats. XD/XE vs. XS loses the PiP/PaP features on the XS side.

Thanks Fudoh that makes sense. I decode audio at the source anyway.

They are giving praise because Lumagen deserves it. I don't think any company has a 100% satisfaction rate, so there will be times where the customer might think the level of service/support they are getting isn't the best, but if you look around, Lumagen gets a lot of praise for the support they provide.

Amen. My experiences with Lumagen support so far have been excellent.

Am I missing the obvious, is there a feature on my XS like my DVDO DUO that re-deinterlaces 1080P video?

No, they only do that for 480p/576p content in Radiance.

That is too bad... most common interlaced source today is broadcast 1080i. If you are using an HTPC than you are stuck with the deinterlacing it provides and no way to assure it is done properly. Ceton Echo's WMEs are another potential source of badly deinterlaced 1080i source from broadcast.
