Im a hardcore noob! Plz help me

So I recently bought and AIWA px-e850 from a thrift store. it seems to work fine but i cant be sure because i had to buy a replacement needle which will be here in 3 days. I have another predicament though...

the cords for the speakers are a red and white cord. I know that one is for left and one is for right but i dont know how many good speakers i have seen with cords like this. Usually its just 2wires with 2ends on each wire right? honestly have no clue what im doing.

P.S. it gets worse im going to buy used speakers so that limits my choices but i cant afford new ones.

Any info at all would be great. Thanks!

A turntable is designed to be plugged into a 'phono' input of (for example) a
receiver. Through that input, the turntable's signal is subjected to pre-emphasis
and/or additional equalization because it's otherwise too weak(?) (I'm

Can a turntable be used without this processing? I'm not sure. I think it's

If you have or are buying a receiver or pre-amp, look for a 'phono' input
on the back. (Newer, low-end models may omit this feature.)

Otherwise, if it can be made to work with a turntable, you need powered or
'active' speakers (which will contain one or two small amplifiers) and possibly
an adapter to covert from the turntable's RCA connectors to whatever the
speaker wants. A converter like that shouldn't cost more than US$10.

If your source is a turntable, then some other equipment you own must
boost ('amplify') its signal to use speakers. This equipment is generally
  • a receiver or amplifer; OR
  • powered ('active') speakers
Consumer headphones generally don't require any amplification. Speakers are
different.

No, you need a preamp with the proper RIAA eq.

All low impedance loads require amplification. A line driver is an amplifier.
