2012 Panasonic Plasmas???

There is no information on the 2012 plasmas, which don't come out for several months.

We dont know the specs...we dont know when they are sold......we dont know the price(s)...we don't know what flaws they will have...we dont know what software updates will be needed...we don't know build dates to get...we don't know when you're going to stop starting these 2012 Panasonic threads..



What we do know is the VT30 is the plasma of the year and worth getting!

Specs aren't usually released until CES time in early January. The Owners manuals become available for download about 1-2 weeks before the TV is released for sale.

Word is that Panasonic will be using a new driving method in 2012 resulting better performance than on the 2011 models, they'll be brighter, the AR Filter will be improved, and the insider has hinted that the bezels will be narrower.

shh...I'm watching 3D on my new vt30...

and we dont know what problems the 2012 models will have either & PQ is not a huge step from year to year with tvs.. if anything i bet you wont be able to tell the drifrece if u put a 2011 vt next to a 2012 vt andask the guy who is looking at it which is which

If someone wants a great TV right now, then yeah the VT30 is one of the best options right now. It's a great TV and a solid performer.......

But if i were looking to buy a flagship this late in the model year, i'd definitely wait a few months instead and then get the 2012 VT50 - from the limited info that is being released it already looks like it's going to be a bigger jump in performance over the VT30 than the VT30 was over the VT25.

The only reason to get a 2011 model right now is to save some money and/or get instant gratification. But if someone can wait and is willing to pay the early release prices he'll end up with the better TV that has been improved in several areas.

And it's entirely possible that the mid-level 2012 GT series will perform the same as or even outperform the VT30 - and for less money too. The end-of-production VT30s will still be available after the new mid-level models are released in the spring so if it turns out that the 2012 ST/GT models do not outperform the VT30, you can buy a VT30 at the the lowest prices since it was first released.

Wait a "few months" Randy? Try a more realistic guess like "half a year" since the last VT was released in June...Even if I were in the market wanting a 2012 model I'd wait 2-3 months longer than the release date to hear peoples reviews on it. Plus, early build dates havn't been exactly lucky in recent times have they?


Hey you want to wait....good for you. I'm not jealous of some future model...I got a smoking Black Friday deal on my VT and I get to enjoy it now while some of you are speculating and dreaming of what could be. Of course next years model will be better in some way(s)...We all know this..its no secret.

You do realize that even 65 inch LED's have bigger bezels look at the Samsung 8000 line just to understand what I'm talking about. This whole wait game is silly. It's good to wait but honestly, I'm not waiting 6 months to buy a VT for MSRP. it took 6 months for the VT30 to get to a decent price. I would guess you probably won't be intending on spending 4 grand on a new VT50. I could be wrong but considering you can get a 2011 model now I'm sure the next set won't be that much better that it's going to be worth $1-$1200 more. Sorry I think you guys are really wasting your time. And there's no way next years GT line will equal this years VT. Just the way this years GT doesn't quite match last years VT25. I truly do think Panasonic will refrain from giving the lower lines a 96hz mode for now. They got to leave something for the VT line and I think 96hz is it.

I am almost always in the "why wait" camp but the fact that you already have the (imho) excellent GT25 changes my recommendation--you'll almost undoubtedly get a bigger improvement if you wait rather than getting a current model.

If you already have a GT25, then waiting makes sense.

If you have nothing, like me, waiting makes no sense. Sure, I could wait another 6 months for the 2012 VT50 at MSRP, or another year for the 2012 VT50 at settled prices, but if I wait a full year, I'll be thinking the same thing a year from now - lather, rinse, repeat.

Life is getting shorter for all of us. If we were talking a HUGE breakthough (like OLED) then of course I would wait, but next years TVs will be better, but only incrementally so. Even the new Elite is only incrementally better, not revolutionary.

Why waste 6 months to a year for only a slightly incrementally better TV?

Waiting for 2012 is the way to go. Entirely brand new driving scheme, way more gradations. Crisper. Brighter. More accurate colors. Even less crosstalk. More energy efficient. Thinner. Amazing design. Bigger screens. Trust me, you won't regret

It can be a dilemma because I am in it right now. lol You can enjoy a 65VT30 now for a great price and it will take about a year before the 65VT50 is this price. It's also probably smart to wait at least several months or longer before purchasing a new display because surely some bug or issue will emerge. So, if the VT50 comes out in June, it's probably smart to wait until September IMO. You need to find out if you can live the issues or not. On the other hand, if the rumors are true from the insider, the VT50 will be a major step forward and there's something to be said for patience, but that is a difficult virtue to achieve in this hobby.

Really? In fifteen days you can get a v50? WOW!

I think he said obsolete, not be available. The word for four sounds like the word death IIRC in Japanese, so a no go on that.

So they will skip it and jump to 50.

This year, the 55" VT30 was first available in April, but the 65" not until at least May (and maybe June).

2011: bezel greatest width (b.g.w.) = B

2012: b.g.w = B/2.
....
2011 + nth year: b.g.w. = B/2x2x...x2 (2 multiplied by n-times).

The absence of frame bezel don't disentangle 3D from his inherent difficulty:

The viewers focus their eyes on the screen-plane, while the seen illusion is 10 feet, 20 feet, 100 feet etc. away.

2011 and 2012 3D plasmas will work on the same principles.

The convergence and the focus points are - and will be - different. (The two eyes focusing on the screen, while their convergence point is nearer or farther on.) In real life situation they are identical.

What startling situation, isn't it?

Just my .02 but after getting a GT30 on Saturday, I have a hard time believing that a 2012 model will be worth the extra dollars, at least for the first 6 months
