On the last half dozen Panasonics i've set up in the past few years (including my own G10) the base plate for the stand was packed standing upright in the box behind the back of the TV and only takes up about an inch of the carton's width The forks/posts/screws were packed separately in a bag.

I don't think it would hurt to let the back edge of the stand stick out beyond the rear edge of your swivel. And that swivel maker guy used to make the baseplate size to your specs (you tell him what width and depth you want) so maybe contact him and see what he can do for you.

When is the P55VT50 supposed to be Released and the rumored MSRP?

Helped put up a 50UT50 today. For an entry-level model, I think it looks really good. The lack of a filter makes it look very lackluster in a store environment, though, so it's hard for me to evaluate it. That said, I still find the ST30 preferable. It also seemed to me that the front glass on our display UT was "wavy" or something - it doesn't look smooth.

your right - my mistake - it is 12.6 inches -- all well - i ordered it already the swivel base and its the same size 12.5 inches - by 22 inches long - it shipped already and yes the guy can make custom sizes but i may just keep it as is since its shipped already and it may just be ok also - i really wont know till i get a TV - which may not be for a few months now - i need a 42 inch size only - and they wont be out for a while before any good reviews etc. - the guy who makes the swivel bases is a good guy - he works with you - i am sure will use him again in the future -

compared to this new UT panny - would you know how the other brands stack up - LG plasma - Sammy etc. - those are the only choices with plasma - last year i tried the LG PT350 because of the price - and it was way too dark for my bedroom daytime - and couldnt adjust it to make it better - i see LG has a new model this year - shows 1500mcd brightness in the specs - not sure how that translates to the brightness - i usally see that specs on LED LCD models - and not sure if its a 1080P - since the TV will be close - i do notice the difference between 720 and 1080p -

Robert at Value Electronics will be doing a mini shootout og the GT50, Samsung E8000, and the LG PM9700. Should be quite informative when all is said and done

The UT50 may be the same basic panel as the ST50 except for the lack of the louvre filter which makes the ST an Infinite Black panel. The specs say G15 full HD panel for the UT and G15 full HD Neo Panel for the ST. I think neo may refer to the black filter, and that may be the only major difference. Not sure. Although the ST may have more full menu picture adjustment controls, as the UT may not have a Custom mode. Will have to research and compare the two in person.

If they're following the Neo program of the previous Neo years, there is more to "Neo" than just the AR Filter. The core bare panel is the same, but the Neo panel's built-in on-board electronics are enhanced and the panel drivers are beefed up, and the software/firmware is different too.



The UT will almost assuredly have a Custom mode as this has been present on virtually every NA Panasonic model since 2007.

Yeah i need to see how other brands stack up also - but in my case - i need a 42 inch size - and none of those models will be in any shootout i think -

with LG and Sammy - i think they made one model in 42 inches plasma - maybe LG has 2 at best - even if the TV is 50 inch or more - but from the same model - then thats ok - i can get an idea -

lets say someone reviews a UT50 50 inch - and it comes out good - i can safely feel that the 42 inch UT50 should be just as good -

from what i see - not many 42 lower end models get tested - reviewed -

i need it for the bedroom - so i dont need it to be perfect sort of speak -
i need it to be good for day time also - so i would like a brighter screen - which it looks like the UT is brighter - from some pictures posted here -

beside bright - i want it to perform some what decent with very good PQ at least - then at last its the price which comes into play -

the panny is active 3D - and Sammy - the glasses are extra which suck - and cost ALOT if you ask me - at least panny glasses do -

so i have to add in another $300 easy for two glasses and the Wi Fi dongle which is not included with the UT - now that bring me over $1000 easy when all said and done - which is fine if i get the results i need -

LG is much cheaper in price - comes with free glasses - built in Wi Fi - etc. -

i wont be watching 3D movies much at all - its going to be one or two movies as i come across them - thats about it really - i like to see some when i can - in the end is the UT worth so much more money in my case -

hard to say - unless i find some reviews on the LG plasma also - i have to say i like the built of LG TVs - but the only plasma i tried from LG was a lower end model last year - PT350 i think - and it didnt work out for me - too dark - i couldnt get it bright enough for day use - and it was 720p -

i would like 1080p - its very close in distance and i do notice the difference between the two at the distance i am using it at -

just bought the UT50 yesterday, its lame though that they havent released the new 3D glasses for it yet though as it means i wont be able to try out the 3D till they do

That FlatpanelsHD website is located in Denmark and covers mostly European models, so a lot of the information there (features, specs, sizes, models, pricing, etc) may not apply to the North American market. Sometimes though they'll just copy info from U.S. sites in which case it's accurate here.

Great info on the UT so far in here and thanks maygit for the mini review and comparison pictures. Looking forward to maybe some better views because I am in the market for my very first plasma. I can't decide if i should try to get the 42ST30 at a discounted price this year or just grab the 42UT50 which starting isn't too bad. Any suggestions?

Can you even find a 42st30 ? i missed out on it and i cant find them at all for sale - i am also waiting on the 42UT50 to come out and see how that works out - plus you have to factor in the price of the 3D glasses which are not for sale yet - who knows how much they will charge -

seems like they are charging for everything on the UT model - no Wi fi dongle included this year - no screen filter - new glasses to purchase - cant use the 2011 glasses - base price is good but when all said and done - over a Grand easy -

Yea there are a couple in stock at a few BB locations around my area, but that's just the thing they are becoming scarce so I don't want to regret not picking one up. Just can't decide.

Hard choice - it shows up on the BB website but when you go check out if you even can - shows backordered etc. - which means - they dont have it and wont be getting it again -

the ST30 has pro settings also which the UT dosnt have - i cant get crazy worring about it too much - its done for me - i have to wait for the UT - and will also looking to LG - Sammy plasma also if price is the same as the UT etc. -

i will also consider a LED - if reviews are good etc. - for me - its a bedroom TV

i figure how bad can it be - so far - the UT seems nice and may just be as good or better than the ST model - - all i know is the extras bring the price up - so if you factor in the price - i can look at other models in the same price range or even less - if they turn out to be bright enough for my day time use also - thats why i am also considering LED -

and to be safe - i most likely have to purchase at Amazon for the 30 days return if it dosnt work out etc. - and then try a different brand or LED -

with me - i need some day use out of it - so thats a concern along with how bad the glare is on each set - then i like it be at least very good at night with the blacks - dosnt have to be Excellent but very good - - thats with plasma or LED - which ever i end up with - i do like the brightness during the day - and i have a plasma for my main room - movies only - night time - thats all i use that TV for -

Great points expresso. This will be a bedroom set for me as well and just open to both. I'll probably wait to see more reviews on the UT50 to see which route I go. Good luck to you as well for searching for that perfect set and thanks for the info.

thanks - i hope its a great set - the UT - i really want to it to be - but its true lately - so many sets and prices - and alot of them dont live up to the hype - reading the specs on so many LED sets - make it sound amazing blacks etc. - just to be disappointed - with flashlights etc. - thats my main concern - i dont want light bleeding - i am using a 4 year old Sony xbr4 in my bedroom now - 720 p - decent picture - nothing compared to my main plasma - but its sharp etc, and punchy in the PQ - now the blacks are not dark dark - but its even over the whole screen - no light bleeding or botchy - just not plasma dark - and i find it ok for the bedroom - its an LCD model - not led -

i cant see any of these new sets being worse - would have to be better -

with LED models - the LG seems good on paper - LED PLUS with dimming etc, - and i am also considering the Panny LED ET5 model - which uses a LG panel -

come to think of it - i been paying attention to how i use my bedroom TV - and the screen is filled all the time - 99% of the time - which is good since i wont hardly ever see the black bars on top or bottom of the screen anyway -
most everyone is concerned on picking there main TV - which i would say get a good plasma set - the best you can afford - or even right below the best - - if i were looking to replace my main TV - i would get a plasma - i love watching movies on it -- i would not replace that one with any LED model out there today -

i friend of mines has the sony LED model 55 inch - its the top model - not sure which one - its a year old i think more or less - and i have to say - its a nice picture and the blacks look black - even at night - - i didnt see any bleeding or other LED issues - i havnt watched it for long but - i do remember thinking - its not bad at all - i was expecting worse in the dark - but it was fine -

then you have to consider price - at that price from sony - you could get an excellent plasma from panny - which i still think would edge it out if placed side by side -

with a LED model with dimming - at night - you will for sure use it and lower the light output anyway - which will or should give a decent black level - should be fine - the only thing i dont want is light bleeding out from anyway - its ok if its not plasma dark but has to be even at least across the screen -

this way in the day time - i can use the standard setting and dimming at night

Wait a little longer and you won't have to. I bought my 60ST30 last Sat. at Costco and by Tues. people were saying it wasn't on their web sight anymore.

Costco's online store's inventory is completely separate than the inventory that's in their local B&M stores. The 60ST30 hasn't been on their site for several days now, but my local store had at least two of em when we passed through the TV section yesterday.
