Light Automation for a new house

Thread Starter
Guys, I know nothing about home automation of Lighting. I'm not even sure other than lights what else can be automated, so please give me advices.
I've designed A/V/internet and will be wiring my house in a week or two.

Is this lighting automation really expensive? Apart from lighting what else can be automated? Even I don't decide to do it now, what steps can I do before the builder install the drywall, so that I can do it at a later stage?
Thanks.

Pick up the phone and call a local custom installation company.

There is no way for you to figure out what you need, in a week or 2.

Automated lighting involves replacing the conventional switches with automated switches, typically $70-200 each. Keypads (multiple buttons on a single plate) cost more. These automated dimmers communicate with a central programmable controller ($150-2K).

If you want it done correctly, call a pro. Today. He will gladly fill you in on what else is possible.

What else can be automated? LOTS. For starters: gas fireplaces, garage doors, door locks, security systems/components, HVAC (thermostats), window treatments (shades etc.), pool controls, doorbells, water sensors, driveway sensors.....the list goes on and on. Oh, and audio/video systems.
