GPU to A/V Receiver problem (please help)

Hello guys. Thank you for viewing this.

I have my PC hooked to a Yamaha RX A700 via HDMI from a Asus Xonar Deluxe 1.3 and this is hooked to a GTX 470. The only way I got this set up to work is by using a second monitor and by selecting RX700 in screen resolution as the second monitor.

Today I got on the pc (left it on since I last used it) and plugged in my A/V receiver (I unplug the power every night) and my GTX 470 no longer recognizes a second monitor.

Its unbelievable because nothing was done besides unplugging the A/V receiver power since I last used it. I doubt even the cables have moved since it last worked (I have since triple checked every connection).

I have uninstalled and re-installed drivers for both the GTX 470 and Asus Xonar and have done a system restore and it hasn't worked.

Any advice or suggestions would be immensely appreciated as I live and breathe through this machine and no audio will be devastating.

I am even willing to go so far as offering a reward to the person who is able to help me through this. Thank you for your time.

First thing I do with this issue is reboot the pc with the AVR on.

I really, really would like to know why anyone uses a sound card when the audio is either passthrough for DVDs or bitstreamed from BR-discs right from the video card. Or am I missing something?

As far as your handshake, if HDCP doesn't get detected then you'll not have audio vis HDMI. My suggestion is first to cycle power on your Yammy - sometimes it just gets lost. Secondly, be sure you're not trying to switch HDMI Audio between various outputs - pick one as your default and configure it AS your Default video AND Default Audio device, reboot.

I think the 470 does lpcm, hence the Xonar - not sure. Also seen updating to newer drivers can cause this issue. Just a few days ago I had to go back to 275.33 to get HD audio back with a 9800gt and the Xonar 1.3 after trying the 290 beta. Another poster uses a Xonar Slim with his AMD as it's more stable than the AMD hdmi drivers. I have this issue too with upgrading AMD drivers. A vicious cycle.

Thank you guys for your responses.

I have power cycled everything to no avail. I have tried drivers 290.36, 285.79, 285. 62. and 275.33 and it hasn't fixed anything.

My last guess is a short in the AV receiver HDMI connection or a bad cable with no way to test either of these ideas. I suppose this is going to be expensive.

My operating system is Win 7 64 bit if it will help jolt any ideas.

Thank you.

Try connecting directly to the 470 with an hdmi adapter, if you need it and select nvidia in playback devices. Do setup. If it works, the Xonar may be the issue. Does the extended display show up in screen resolution or control panel?

Hey thanks for your help. I have no idea what happened but it just started working again. Very odd.
