We have about 2000 speaker models in Merlin, and the database grows every week. If a customer doesn't see his speaker model in Merlin, we have a short request form they can complete, and we'll quickly add that model to Merlin, and also follow-up with the customer.
When SVS develops a Merlin entry for a given speaker model, naturally we make some educated assumptions about the room size, associated electronics and playback level typically encountered in a system with that speaker model. These assumptions are based on thousands of live interactions with our customers over many years. This data then allows us to develop some SVS subwoofer recommendations which will typically work very well with that loudspeaker model in a wide range of applications.
Of course there will always be outlier applications where a different SVS subwoofer model will work best. The room size and layout, the distance from the listening position to the subwoofer, the typical playback level, and the desired amount of slam/impact/pressure on LFE scenes all come into play when recommending the best SVS subwoofer for a given application.
A quick call, chat or email to SVS CS never hurts to double-check a Merlin subwoofer recommendation. With that said, it's important to realize that some potential buyers can't always contact SVS CS when they viewing our website, and Merlin gives them an opportunity to view some potentially good subwoofer matches for their loudspeakers, and it's a great starting point for a future live interaction with SVS CS.
