home theater placement problems

Hi all,

I need help with setting up a HT for my living room. First, would anyone recommend mounting a led over a fireplace if i never plan on using the fireplace? i am looking at either getting a led or 80 inch dlp that can go over fire place. i think i can get an 60-70 inch above my fire place but not sure if its ideal for HT setup. see pic below

the other choice is to put it to the right of the fireplace along that wall. the outlets and cable jack is there. if i mount above the fireplace i have to run cables and cut holes in the wall and there is a gas line there somewhere.

lets say looking at a 60-70 inch led what is the best placement also considering 3d viewing. should i go with dlp 80in or led 60-70 inch as far as picture quality?

another problem is speaker placement,,, as you can see it is an open floor plan so placement of the speakers will be tricky. living room opens to the kitchen and dinning room with columns.

what would you do with this layout?
