Vapor Audio Cirrus / Selah Tempesta / Salk M7

I am looking to find out how the 2-way design of the Cirrus would differ from the 3-way design of the Tempesta and M7. What would be the pros and cons of 2-way vs 3-way? All three of these speakerss look totally stunning in their components, value and careful design. Does one hold an advantage?

I have no experience with either of those speakers you have listed. But i do believe reading from the description of the Cirrus, it is not just another 2 way monitor with a well integrated drives and crossover. The cabinet is what differ from other BOX cabinet. The interior shape of the cabinet it is supposed to reduce back wave from the bass driver which also plays the mid. The baltic plybirch is supposed to be stiffer material then mdf which helps reduce resonance. A equivalent MDF built would also be heavier, considering that the cirrus already weights a whopping 55 pounds. The round over of the cabinet is supposed to reduce diffraction. If the cirrus is built with a box cabinet, it will proabably sound different and it could cost much less and at the end, it will not be cirrus.
But with selah and salk, they are true 3 way design, which i think it has advantage over a 2 way if things being equal.
Selah do seems to have the best deal if you are fine with the standard cabinet but prices jump to 4000 for full front baffle veneered.

I heard the Salk M7 just over a week ago at Warpdrv's house and fell in love all over again with another Salk product. They aren't a small monitor by any means, and they throw a gigantic sound stage, with the best depth I've heard from a speaker anywhere near that price range. The RAAL ribbon is superb, offering amazing clarity and extension without any glare. But the mids are where it's at with these monitors, and they produce in spades. You get all that midrange warm but without a loss if detail; everything is so clear and life-like, IMO, and the tonal balance/timbre accuracy is amazing. Oh, and I couldn't believe how well they filled Warp's gigantic room!

With that said, you should really hear all three before you buy (if possible). Otherwise go with your gut, as I'm sure any of the three will be awesome.

How big is your room and what is your system comprised of. Do you have room treatments?

Currently my system consists of an Outlaw integrated receiver (RR 2150) which contains a DAC. Speakers are B&W 805N and PSB Imagine B bookshelves. I also have am using the Outlaw as a preamp to send the signal to a Behringer EP4000 amp which goes to a set of Magnepan MMGs. Cables are Monoprice. All music comes from my computer (FLAC) which comes in via USB. No room treatments. I love the B&Ws and the PSBs and the Maggies - all for different reasons. I am however curious what an "Ultimate" monitor would do for me. I figure if they weren't my cup of tea, Selah does offer a 45 day in home evaluation period. Oh, the room is about 12x16.

As some one who used to like the B&W 805s(until I got into finding more of these internet/one man shop speakers), I've got to say all three of these would likely beat the snot out of them. Personally I would take the Cirrus, but then again I haven't heard the Tempesta, i've heard a few others of Rick's designs though. One thing to keep in mind is if you are going to play at louder volumes are are going to do some HT, the cirrus has a bit more sensitivity ~ 88 vs. 85.

Thanks for your kind comments. As far as the difference in sensitivity, the AT woofer in the Cirrus when combined with a normal amount of baffle step compensation is going to be closer to 85db (even possibly lower depending on the crossover design). I've done some work with it and verified with measurements.

I know this thread is old. That said all three of these monitors are world class but my vote goes to the selah.
