I'm glad Redemption Island is not back. I thought RI was there to give returning players a chance rather then see them voted out of the game early with no real chance of playing. Having said that I don't know how Survivor can bring two returning players back anytime soon since one returning player ended up winning the game and another ended up coming in second.After seeing that new players would be crazy not to vote off any returning player first.

An "aka" is rarely a good sign. 51 but looks 22? Maybe that's an old photo. Katrina Edorsson is 22 but looks 51. Maybe that's a bad photo.

Keep your eye on Leif Manson. I hear a ticking sound every time I look at his photo.

Chelsea Meissner must be another one of those beautiful pharmaceutical reps that only Survivor casting can find.

I certainly wouldn't mind if RI is gone, but where does it say that Redemption Island is gone? I didn't see it in the linked articles on here.

When answering a question about how he liked RI. the alleged Survivor cameraman on reddit said,

Having RI kills a major part of the show which is the scrambling that would always take place between the IC and TC. Getting voted out really meant nothing. Much of the drama we loved about the show and the drama over who is being voted out was built up in that 10-15 minutes of scrambling and negotiating, and RI took that away.

RI gone, (for now at least), two tribes of men vs women all on one beach so they can intermingle, immunity idols can't be used on one's self and can only be given to someone from the other tribe. Survivor's first "little person" on men's team.

The intermingling thing sounds like it may have some good effect from a game play standpoint that hopefully will make things more interesting for viewing.

It sounds like a mixture of the fun boys vs. girls of Marquesas and Vanuatu and the awkwardness and comradery of both tribes living on the same beach of Thailand. I think they've done research on old seasons and are reviving things that worked in the past. Good for them!

One of the funniest moments during Marquesas was when the boy tribe when to TC and Jeff casually asked what they thought of the women. Every guy sounded like he was in junior high when an excited discussion broke out about how hot HeiDDI, Shawna and Jenna were. They were even laughing at themselves.

I would love them to do what they did in Palau: just dump them on the beach and not reveal the tribes until two or three days later. That was my favorite first episode of Survivor I've seen so far.

The amount of time they had to devote to RI (taking away reward challenges etc), and it's various side effects on the other aspects of the game, were just sucking the life out of the show IMO. It does seem like they have made an effort to use some previous show strategies that helped to stir things up and keep things interesting. In recent seasons the tribes had become way too separate and distinct with no cross pollination to enable much chance of any real non-original tribe alliances and players switching allegiances etc. After reading about the changes and watching the individual cast clips on the CBS site I'm optimistic we might get a fun and less predictable season this time.

Don't they kind of sound like the "build a kite" challenge they did Marquesas? Or the "build a better shelter" challenge they did in All-Stars... which Rupert apparently thought was "dig your tribe's grave"?

I didn't watch the last two seasons because A) I can't stand Russell and B) I refused to watch with another Hantz on, but I decided I'm gonna jump back in this season.

I gotta agree with you here, there are some really hot women this season. I don't recall the last one that had this many in one season. The last I could think of might be the Amazon or Vanuatu as being on par.

Since there will be a women's tribe, the hotties probably won't get voted off first because they're "weaker" than the men.

You also can bet the early challenges will require agility and endurance that guys always fail miserably at. The guy who won Vanuatu couldn't even finish the first agility challenge!

Another classic was on Palau when teams had to make their treasure chest impenetrable to the other tribe using ropes and sticks. James (not the brightest one) claimed he learned a knot in the Navy that will only get tighter as you try to loosen it. Sounded good, right? Well, once the other tribe learned the trick to loosening the knot, they undid them one right after another. Meanwhile James's tribe had to untie a million conventional granny knots.
