Yep...there never had been an all women final.

A+B=C

A= never an all women final
B= CBS wants an all women final/they promote and focus on it by having men vs women
C= we have an all women final

Water + Fire = boiling water. It just seems that simple the way the season was promoted and developed.

I know the show isn't actually scripted, but if there ever seemed to be a scripted season this is it. Everyone seemed to play along perfectly to allow it to happen and all unfold virtually perfectly. This reminds me of Rob winning...everyone wanted him to win, he wanted to win more than anything, the show was seemingly designed around him winning and he does.

^^THIS is what makes for a boring show and loses viewers. Granted the producers and promoters want the opposite and it is why they marketed men vs women, but it failed.

Outside of COlton, it seemed to most from way back on day one that Kim was the one to win and it ended like she was expected to.

I agree with all of you, they all look better without makeup...Kim seemed to be taller than I thought....seems like they picked as manly a woman as they could, hence her domination in challenges especially when all the other men were gone. Several of the last challenges, while a couple of the men were still there, seemed designed for a Kim to win.

Parvati won an all woman final.

I'm guessing Hughmc was referring to the fact that they've never had a final 5 that was all female.

I don't think so, at least not a significant split. Unfortunately game theory usually comes into play on this:

In regular tribal councils, people look for coalitions of votes instead of just voting without regard to everyone else is voting for out of fear that the vote will be so split that you might go home on very small number of votes (like 8 people left, someone goes home with 3 votes on a 3-2-1-1-1 split).

Same thing for final tribal council. There is a fear (albeit MUCH smaller because the voters in this case are a jury who isn't winning anything) that a person you don't want to win will win with a plurality (and not majority) because the vote gets split.

Putting game theory aside, to get such an interesting split, you probably need three really popular players in the final, something that never seems to happen because you don't want to be sitting next to 2 other popular players. I suppose it could happen in an All-Star season, with a final 3 of say, Ozzy, Rupert, and Parvati, but again, only Rupert is idiotic enough to want to sit next to Ozzy and Parv. The other two have a least half a brain and wouldn't want the risk.

Yes, I clearly recall you telling us not to bother watching the rest of the season because Kim was obviously going to win it all.

Watched the ponderosa vids. Wow. Now I know why Kat was so subdued and reasonable at tribal - she'd gotten it all out by that time when Alicia came.

Maybe to you. To people like me, it turns them off and makes them not even want to watch the season. Give me the most boring, nonegotistical people ever to play the game over *******s like Colton, Russell and Boston Rob.

I don't remember if anyone else mentioned this, but at final tribal Troyzan posed a question to Kim and wanted her to be honest. He made it seem like if she was, she would get his vote. Since he was one of the two that voted for Sabrina, was it ever mentioned what the answer was he was actually looking for?

I personally hate final 3 and wish they would just go back to the final 2.

As for the breakdown of votes, here is who received what since they implemented this back in Season 13.

Cook Islands: Yul Kwon (5), Ozzy Lusth (4), Becky Lee (0)
Fiji: Earl Cole (9), Cassandra Franklin (0), Dre "Dreamz" Herd (0)
China: Todd Herzog (4), Courtney Yates (2), Amanda Kimmel (1)
Gabon: Bob Crowley (4), Susie Smith (3), Jessica "Sugar" Kiper (0)
Samoa: Natalie White (7), Russell Hantz (2), Mick Trimming (0)
Heroes vs Villians: Sandra Diaz-Twine (6), Parvati Shallow (3), Russell Hantz (0) <-- gave me great pleasure to see that one
Nicaragua: Jud "Fabio" Birza (5), Chase Rice (4), Matthew "Sash" Lenahan (0)
Redemption Island: Rob Mariano (8), Phillip Sheppard (1), Natalie Tenerelli (0)
South Pacific: Sophie Clarke (6), Benjamin "Coach" Wade (3), Albert Destrade (0)
One World: Kim Spradlin (7), Sabrina Thompson (2), Chelsea Meissner (0)

So, aside from one season where probably the worst final tribal speaker ever Amanda got 1 lousy vote, all the other 3rd place finishers have received 0.
Exactly what is that adding to the game by making it a final 3?

I definitely got that vibe too. Beautiful woman. I thought her and Kim could become a couple.

The reason they went to 3 is so that that a very strong player who fails to win the final immunity (in a case where it would be only 2) doesn't lose out. Because if THIS season went to a final immunity and Kim lost, then obvioulsy (well maybe not, Colby...) she would NOT have been taken to the final 2.
So basically, to save the BEST player in the game who fails to win final immunity, they went to 3. That also explains why one person never gets any votes - They don't DESERVE any!!

I always prefered the final 2 scenario as well .. and the final challenge where the winner could pick who they wanted to go with them ..

Yeah that happened to Terry the fighter pilot in one season. Failed when he needed it most.

Interesting comments from Kim in our local paper this morning (San Antonio). She says she lost about 16 pounds (where did my boobs go) and that she knew about the 'stache
post #975 of 1026
I think a reason that this season seemed a little dull was because Kim appeared to be in control. Could she have won w/ a more astute crowd? Unless she comes back for an All-Star session, we'll never know. But IMHO, she was the clear winner this time.

I swear...CBS must have funeral parlor beauticians doing the make up. Or, former makeup folk for the Crouch family over at TBN

Doubt she would have gotten implants if she was a lesbian.

i think it would be cool to have an all-star season of winners only. that way, people wouldn't be voted off "because they've won already" and you would obviously have some of the best players.

yes, mike skupin fell into the fire.

At that time, we didn't know that Kim was recently divorced. So at least that one has an explanation.

I'd still put Kat at top of the gaydar list, above Chelsea, with her bringing her "cousin". No mother, no father, no sibling, no grandma, no grandpa, no boyfriend, a cousin? WTF?

But Chelsea is a close second.

So, in any season when a guest appears, if

No mother, no father, no sibling, no grandma, no grandpa, no boyfriend, a cousin?

we should assume the contestant is gay .. ??

Does that include both males and females .. ??

Not that it really matters, just wondering what logic that would entail ..

I'd put her cousin there -- not Kat.

That (probably some truth to the fact that they want the best player to win or at least get second, rather than third with no money), or just that they want to shorten the game. Maybe they have research that shows that viewers aren't all that interested in a final 3 immunity and just want to get to FTC.

Back when it was a final 2, the final 2 hour episode used to start with the final 4, then go down to 3, then down to 2. Now it starts at final 5, down to 4, then down to 3. Unless my brain is just fried today, that seems like one less Wednesday Survivor episode.

This season on The Amazing Race, they definitely wanted to shorten the season because they made the final 2 hours and started with the final 4, when usually the final episode is one hour and only has the final 3 (again, unless my brain is fried and I am not remembering correctly).

Here is what I would love to see, if for only just one season. It kinda happened in Fans vs Favorites where Amanda, Cerie, and Parvati automatically assumed it was a Final 3, but then Jeff had them compete in one last challenge, but my version would be a bit different.

I would just love to have no final immunity challenge and have the 3 come to tribal council, but after going through Jeff's regular spiel he tells them this is not the final tribal and they have to vote one more out. This way no one is safe with an immunity idol, it doesn't come down to just one person making the decision, and they didn't plan on this so they have to scramble to come up with a name.

This way the 3rd person out wouldn't have just one person to blame and it would throw a major wrench into people's plans by having to make an on the spot decision without all that at the camp wrangling.

My thought EXACTLY!

This is what I wished for when they first announced an all-star season. I mean seriously, at the time what did Amber or Boston Rob do to deserve even being there in the 1st all-star season? Nothing as far as I remember. Hell, Boston Rob didn't even make the jury in his original season, yet he was considered an "all-star."

No, bring back all the winners and nothing but and let's see who is the best of the best. Damn the personalities and the ratings (yeah, like that would ever happen ).

An all winners season would be great .. and might even boost ratings ..

The only problem I would see is getting enough winners to do it ..
And a few of the winners are getting a little long in the tooth. This show has been going on for over a decade now. We have also seen from past all-stars that some of them didn't quite have the same 'fire' in their eyes as the first time they played the game. The good players that won primarily from scheming could certainly do it, but the physically dominant players like Colby and Tom would struggle I would think.

Excellent point .. Bob Crowley from Gabon must be 60 something by now ..

On a side note, Colby followed in his mentor Jeff Probst footsteps and seems to be doing well with Top Shot .. and Top Guns .. and was very disappointing I thought in his last Survivor attempts ..
