This is a long-standing problem of all Realtek 1186, which fixed, for example, in the firmware iconBIT XDS1003D/73D r8260. So this point in the Micca missed, but the fixed stuttering for video 23.976fps at least in 2D, in contrast to most other vendors. I have to say about another long-known bug of Realtek - sonic boom in the frontal acoustic at bitstream mode for DD / DTS sound when you turn on / off pause or rewind: http://www.avsforum.com/t/1375506/iconbit-xds1003d-full-3d-realtek-1186dd/60#post_21906185 . The problem dates back to the RTD1073 and appears on many receivers. Some vendors seem to be eliminated this audio bug in due time. As things stand at the Micca?
Interesting. So, since the Iconbit fixed the off-center bug, that means that it's possible for Micca to do so. Let's hope they will address this. These are simply unacceptable mistakes in my opinion. I'm nor sure who's to blame - it seems like realtek are the ones responsible for these buggy chips. What's surprising is that one of the more advertised features of the 1186 is its 3D capabilities, yet it can't even get 2D side-by-side output correct.

So then the Iconbit hasn't fixed the 23.976 bug like the Micca did (in 2d)? The first 1186 player I tried was the Iconbit and I loved it but the 23.976 bug was a deal-breaker so I gave up on it. Then I discovered through the MIcca that it's an 1186 issue. Looks like there hasn't been any talk in the Iconbit thread since April.

At the moment it is known that 23.976 bug removed only in "new batch" of Micca and in the firmware 1.0.1.13 for HiMedia 900. In fact this problem can be solved on any hardware http://www.avsforum.com/t/1367468/himedia-hd900b-full-3d-media-streamer-realtek-1186-based/1440#post_22130949 . I'll tell you another secret: not the most correct, but the working bugfixed version is obtained by porting some of firmware 1.0.1.13 HiMedia files to any 1186 player.

I have difficulty copying files to internal hard drive (which is a western Digital 2T green drive). I copied some file from my Windows 7 machine over LAN onto that drive, and I played them on TV. Everything worked fine. However, after restarting Micca, all files are gone. All gone! I tried 5+ time, same issue happened over and over. Anyone can give me some hints?

By the way, I'm already using the latest firmware.

Thanks.

I'm wondering where Jack@Micca is at? Without Jack Micca owner will most likely have no support at all.
I'm wondering too. I would really like to hear something from Jack on this issue with the off-center 3D. Very frustrated here on this.

I think it would be nice and profession for Jack to let people know if he will have an extended absent from the forum. That way people would know that he'd be back. If is frustrating when the only person who provides the best support isn't available, and no one know when he will be available again!

I completely agree with you. It's frustrating when the company offers absolutely no support other than a single rep who then disappears for weeks leaving us to wonder if he's coming back or if we're on our own. If it was a big company like Samsung or Panasonic we would always have a phone number to call for assistance (not that it usually helps much anyways), but I came across this bug with the off-center 3D viewing over a week ago and I still have no idea if anything can or will be done about it.

I've had that happen previously to me. I haven't installed the hard drive back in since I got the new "fixed" unit, since I'm still trying to sort out other issues, but I know that used to frustrate me when the files would just disappear after copying them over and playing them fine, then having them vanish later. I thought this was fixed? So it's still happening then?
Does the EP950 recognize USB drives that Mac formatted, i.e. HFS+ ?

Thanks!

Do you mean I'm fortunately receiving a mal-functional unit?

I'm going to try to format hard drive on my desktop PC and put it back. Maybe FORMAT operated by Micca somehow failed.
Can't say for sure. I do't know if that's an issue with all the units or just a lucky few. It used to really bother me on the old EP950 I returned. It constantly deleted stuff I had just copied over.

I wish we would hear from Jack. I'm not too happy right now since I'm using the WDTV Live to play side-by-side files, when that's the reason I bought the Micca in the first place, for the 3D support.

That depends. Some AVRs cannot decode AAC, so if you send it a RAW AAC stream, it doesn't know what to do with it.

Right, setting it to Auto works really well since the HDMI interface communicates what formats and resolutions are supported by the downstream device. In this case, the AVR does not support AAC, so the player automatically chooses to output PCM audio instead.

The HDMI audio setting should be left on Auto unless there was a specific reason to choose something else.

Jack,

Where have you been? Lol there are a lot of new frustrated Micca owners out here!

Is this happening with other people's players? It can't be the tv, since it doesn't happen with any other media player except the Micca.
I am curious as to whether this is caused by player output, or a compatibility issue between the player and the TV. Do you have another TV where you can duplicate this issue? If the problem follows the player to another TV, then we can be pretty certain. I've passed this along to be investigated, but more info from you would help greatly.

It's a nice machine but this is a def drawback.

It appears that your TV is applying over-scan. What's worse is that some TVs do this automatically depending what it thinks is the best for the connected source. It can even change when displaying the player's menu vs playing a movie. There is a "video zoom" setting in the player's settings menu to combat this behavior. Try turning that on.

This was hashed out in detail in the other thread. There may come a day when a $170 media storage device can saturate a gigabit path in a sustained manner, but that reality does not currently exist. Not even the Dune with its gigabit port will "do gigabit" as you put it.

Edit: my tone is a little-off in the above paragraph. I only mean to relay the information regarding gigabit.

I don't think that information is available on the EP950... let me add that to the feature request list.

When this occurs, it's usually a corrupt firmware issue. A reflash using the recovery method will fix this issue.

Sorry about my absence. There is email tech support available for digital media players, so customers always have that as an option. That said, I do appreciate the posting of issues here because it lets people compare notes and generally results in a much better description of the problem, such as the new issue (new to me at least) of the image being off center. So I do encourage everyone continue to post their issues and questions here.

Dune doesn't have gigabit ethernet. The latest units do have gigabit ethernet, but this will not be supported due to CPU not being powerful enough just like all the other media players.

We have a new firmware that is in "beta" state. Just prior to release, we discovered an issue with the Samba host name setting that doesn't work. Here are what's included in this update:
New Features
- HiTV Chinese video-on-demand feature now with multi-server support.
- Added shortcut support for local and Samba network folders and files.
- Added ability to manually load a subtitle file while watching videos.
- Added Arabic subtitle support.
- Added ability to set Music repeat/loop/shuffle using the "REPEAT" remote button.
- Added Samba workgroup and hostname configurations.
Fixed Issues
- Fixed file copy issues and errors under certain conditions.
- Fixed issue where network speed is displayed as 0 when the actual speed is very high.
- Fixed idx+sub subtitle display issues under certain conditions.
- Fixed HiTV MP4 file seamless playback issues
- Fixed issue where changing the video output mode using the remote "TV Mode" button is not saved.
- Improved PPPOE function.
- Fixed inability to add music playlists and photo albums to the media library.
- Fixed issue where there is no sound when playing a MP3 file and audio output is set to RAW.
- Fixed Facebook SSL login issue.
- Fixed incorrect BD menu display.
- Fixed occasional disk format failure.
Some known issues or feature requests that this firmware does not address:
- There still is no fix for 23.976fps playback for 3D content, which remains being played back at 24fps. We continue to work on this.
- 16:9 DVD menus are displayed in 4:3 mode, even though main movie plays correctly.
- No support for forced subtitles.
- Auto time setting function does not work.
- Player does not remember alternate TTF subtitle font selection.
We hope to get the Samba host name issue fixed and release this new firmware very soon.

Hi Jack (glad to see you back!):

What's the current status of this new firmware? Is it almost ready for GA or are you still looking for Beta testers?

@Jack,

Glad to see you back, and thanks for answering some of our questions.

Unfortunately I do not have access to another 3D tv. I do however have access to another LCD tv without 3D, so I can run that test image to see if it being cropped on that tv also. I'll report back after I try it out tonight.

I really hope this issue can get resolved one way or another.

I'm using the official firmware. How corrupt could it be? During upgrade I didn't see anything wrong.

If I format hard drive using PC, this issue may resolve. I haven't tried it however.
Notice that Jack mentioned you should try a reload.
He said "A reflash using the recovery method will fix this issue."
So make sure you flash the firmware again using the recovery method, not through the regular update method
Instructions are in the updated online manual I believe. I assume you have a usb stick you can put the firmware on.
Reformatting the hard drive most likely won't help
Good luck

Oh and this part is for Jack@Micca. I am also more than willing to be a beta tester/guinea pig so if that is ever a possibility please feel free to PM me.
I am glad I bought a Micca cuz having you around to hear our concerns and raise them to the technical department is a blessing. I don't
expect miracles by any means but at least I feel you and the team are trying to satisfy your customers where you can smile.gif

My player has the newest firmware factory installed (1.0.3.9) and I have this problem. I lost several movies because of this. Does that mean the factory firmware flashed by Micca is a bad flash and I need to reflash the 1.0.3.9 firmware?
Also, I have had files disappear when copied to the attached USB drives (or from one usb attached drive to another. Is this also the result of a bad (factory) firmware flash?
Yes what Jack is saying is that for those with file copy issues they should overwrite their 1.0.3.9 firmware with the same version using the usb update method. I saw one or two posts back where
users claimed this fixed their file disappearing issues.

Thanks for your inputs. As far as I know, there are 2 ways to re-flash:
Method 1:
1. Copy install.img to root of USB drive.
2. Plug in USB to EP950.
3. Turn on EP950.
4. Go to Setup and run upgrade.

Method 2:
1. Copy install.img to root of USB drive.
2. Plug in USB to EP950.
3. Use a pin to reach the tiny hone at the back of the box and turn on EP950.
4. Wait for completion of force upgrade.

I haven't tried method 2, but I did try method 1 using USB drive. Doesn't work for me.
Yes method #2 is the recovery method he was referring to. Also that is the method a few others said fixed their problem. I had to do this with
my older Realtek model from a diff manufacturer a few times. It seems to wipe the flash entirely before writing the new firmware as opposed to
just updating the major program areas while keeping some of the os generated files. I guess method #1 is like doing a repair install of windows
and method #2 is like doing a complete reformat and reinstall of your operating system. I hope this makes the process seem a little clearer to some people smile.gif
