Micca EP950! - Page 21

Has Micca checked to see if their inventory is now correct?

I received mine the day after learning it had problems and would be replaced free of charge and also given the wifi adapter, which I've been wanting to network from the beginning.

I hope the offer is still going to be honored.

Any news?

We've removed all stock from Amazon in preparation for the new stock. It should be here in the next week or so.

We will honor the power start-up exchange, absolutely.

So, all the issues are fixed with the EP600 and EP950? I am looking in to replacing my AIOS from my master bedroom for something nicer that can play ISO's. I was thinking about buying another Dune, but their new / increased prices have made me look else where. I'm even thinking of going back to PCH

Hi everyone,

a silly question: is there any chance to purchase one of these devices directly from Europe, avoiding import duties and long delivery time ?
I'm asking, as amazon EU does not have them within their catalogue...

Many thanks.

This Micca EP950 is a clone of the HiMedia 900B and the Micca EP600 is a clone of the HiMedia 900A which I believe are available in EU. You can check out their site http://www.futeko.com or find maybe find another source searching.

Jack, can you answer something for me? With the new batch, if I play a media file encoded at 23.976 and set the output to 60HZ, will that have the stutter that has been an issue? I know you mentioned it will no longer stutter if outputting at 23.976, but what about if the tv only supports 60Hz, like many Panasonics, or if we want to watch it in 60Hz mode? If the video output of the Micca is set to 60Hz, will there be any stutter? I know previously it did but it was harder to notice at 60Hz. I'm hoping it will play the 23.976 files without stutter regardless of the video output selected.

Am I correct in understanding that it would play the 23.976 files at 59.94Hz stutter free?

Thank you, but I wanted to be sure to buy a 2nd generation chip player and as far as I know only the new batch of Miccas can guarantee the 24P bug being fixed

Sorry for trying to help you, good luck.

Hey,

With the new batch of the EP950 layer, the 1080p/60Hz output is actually providing a 59.94Hz signal in harmony with NTSC signal timing. So 23.976 fps video will have proper 3:2 pull-down and play stutter free.

Any help would be appreciated, I've just built a new PC, as far as I'm aware I've set up all the file sharing exactly the same way as I did on my old PC but my Mica EP950 won't let me log onto it. I can see it on the Network list, but when I attempt to access it I have to enter a user name and password and when I do it just says 'Logon Fail' I'm pulling my hair out now trying to work out what I've done different (or done wrong) this time.

Jack, Hi can you let us know when the new batch is available on Amazon? I have a 900b and will replace it with the updated 950 so I can get the correct FPS on my 2D and 3D BD's. thanks!

Update to all who are waiting on the second batch EP950 players, they are now available on Amazon.

And we can also begin the process of swapping the players affected by the power-on issue. For those who purchased through Amazon and are affected, please go to your order summary within your Amazon account and select the "contact seller" link to send us an exchange request. We will need the serial number from the player along with your original order number. In response you will receive instructions on how to send the player back to us for exchange.

The new batch of players will output 59.94Hz in 60p mode, and 23.976 in 24p mode. So when NTSC-timing materials are played, such as 23.976, 29.97, and 59.94 frames per second, there will not be any video judder.

I purchased an AIOS and returend it becuase of two reasons:

1. I was seeing pixelation/static on the video.
2. The torrent download speed are lot slower than the PC.

Did anyone experience these issues in the EP950?

Jack@Micca:
I bought two EP950s and both exhibit the power on issue. In my support ticket I gave both Amazon order numbers and both EP950 serial numbers. However, the email I received back with the exchange instructions appears to be for only one EP950. Should I submit another ticket for the second EP950?

Also, in one of your posts you said: "For any EP950 exhibiting the turn-on problem, we will provide a free exchange. The product fits into a USPS priority mail medium flat rate box, and we can either provide a pre-paid shipping lable, or provide the customer with a free Monoprice WiFi dongle as compensation." In my exchange instructions I was neither offered a prepaid shipping label nor a WiFi dongle.

Before I came across the EP950, I was looking at the Bluetimes Coopa BT3550B (available at: futeko.com --> products --> MP00033.php). I wasn't able to find a US supplier, so have been eying up the EP950 (waiting for the new versions). I was wondering how the EP350 compared to the Bluetimes unit. They appear to have similar specs. Are they coming out of the same factory? Does anyone have one of these units?

Thank you very much for the response, Jack. Great news indeed.

Torrent download on any of the media players is going to be slower than on a PC. Torrent download is a resource intensive process and the limited resource of a media player means that the download will not be as fast.

I recommend asking about the EP350 G2 in the EP350 thread where there are more EP250/EP350 owners.

For the current owners of RTD1186 based players anything well in this news isn't present, if nevertheless it will appear that a bug is burnt into the chip. How then will justify all vendors of defective products prior to the new batch?

Jack, allow me to pay your attention to another problem of players with identical hardware (audiobug?):

Hi Jack:

Thanks for your excellent responses and quick replys. They are greatly appreciated.

As far as my previous post, no, the Bluetimes unit is a 1186/3D/HDMI 1.4 like the EP950 with very similar specs which is why I asked the original question.

BTW - I'm a current owner of a EP350 (Version1) unit needing to upgrade to a system that supports 3D.
Does anyone have a recommendation on which format to store 3D programming on the EP950? As for 3D-BD rips, I'm leaving them as ISOs. But I'm working on a method to capture 3D recorded programs from my DirecTV DVR and I'm not clear on what CODEC/format I should be aiming for to give the best results (and one the EP950 can play back). I have an LG passive 47" 3D TV to watch programming on.

The Micca 950 arrived today from Amazon. I have the original Himedia 900B that i've been using for about 6 months. My main issue was the framerate bug since I only use this device for 2D and 3D BD playback.

I'm anxious to test it out tonight and see the correct output. I use it with several front projectors, the Sony HW30, BenQ W7000 and JVC RS55.

I see.

I know that when the EP250/EP350 units were designed, they were focused on maintaining an affordable price. The EP600/EP950 units were designed to have better materials, build, and firmware. I do not have any experience with the Bluetime 1186 unit so I don't know how well it compares with the EP950.

Sorry Jack. My bad. I just realized I made a typo in my original post and had EP350 instead of EP950. I now see why you answered my original question as you did. I'm planning to order the EP950 here shortly. I'm still trying to work out my capturing strategy.

Jack,

Does EP950 support SMI subtitle? If not, any plan to support in future?
