I'd be surprised if you don't get identical results.

Is the current behavior you are seeing just that the letters are not displayed at all? You can contact support@miccastore.com and provide them with a copy of one of the non-embedded subtitle files for them to analyze.

Thanks Jack, will do.

Regarding your questions, I'm not sure how they're encoded but hadn't had to reencode subs before to play them without any problem with my no old Western Digital media player.. and certainly wouldn't like to have to do so now with the Micca.. and yes, those accentuated letters sometimes they're replaced by a Chinese char, sometimes it doesn't appear the letter at all and eats away surrounding chars... I think it is not a random behaviour but for the same accentuated letter, the behaviour should be consistent through out the text.. but since it makes them difficult to follow sometimes I disable the subs, sometimes I give up and end up playing the movie or so.. which is kind of frustrating since I got the micca due to my WD media player couldn't play some 1080p content or stuttered while doing so.. but it's flawless with subs and the rest of the content.. now I can play 1080p content without any hassle but the subtitles being messed about.. since I'd never had a prob before I didn't even bothered to check this before on the forum.. didn't come to mind...

Any chance of Micca having some type of jukebox functionality in the near future? I'm looking to upgrade from a WDTV Live to this for the Bluray 2D & 3D ISO playback but would love the jukebox type GUI. Any word on this? Thanks in advance!!!

There's a custom firmware by OllyP on the Futeko forum which you can flash on the Micca 950 and maybe the 600 as well? I haven't read up on it in some time but I'm guessing it's still plausible. I wouldn't hold my breath looking for a firmware from Micca with a Jukebox, I know Jack said quite some time ago they would look into it as a long term thing but there's been no mention that I've seen of it since.
You can, but just do so via the restore method as opposed to USB upgrade straight from the player's setup screen.

It would be great if the custom firmware could give me the ability to have moviesheets even with networked files.

The custom firmware developer, OllyP, told me several months back that his YAMJ support for media on network shares should be possible, but it hasn't happened yet AFAIK.

Copying files from an external USB drive to the internal drive works just fine.
from Jack@Micca: Thanks for this information. I've forwarded it to the firmware team. Thanks!

Jack, I tried searching to see if this "scan and fix" error has been resolved but didn't find it, is it still an issue with the laest firmware?
Thanks,

Thanks for the reply Canton, I'm expecting the Micca to arrive on Tuesday, I'll see how it plays with the drives first and go from there, I usually am pretty strict on protocol on removing drives, I stress that to my family as well as co-workers that have bad habits, I'll go as far as shutting down the computer to make sure it's really OFF, I've read that Windows 7 has changed from XP in how it unmounts USB devices, leaving the power on to continue to charge a device, like a phone or an ipod but having it 'removed' from the computer. Myself, when the lights go out, THEN I feel comfortable to remove the drive! smile.gif

I have had my EP950 for almost 2 weeks now and I like it. Don't have 3d and probably never will because of bad vision in one eye but for 2d it excels. It plays all my music files and photos and the few vidieo files that it did not play initially (.nrg files) did play once I converted them to ISO files. Media streaming on my wired/wireless N net works well for everything up to 720p and the higher def files are on USB connected storage and they play perfectly. I picked up an inexpensive wireless mouse/keyboard on Amazon that works well with the unit (However, my logitech and microsoft ones do not. Nothing works in the Logitech and only the mouse works in the Micorsoft desktop). DNLA and UPNP work just fine using IMediaShare on my android phone and PS3 Media Server (which allows me to stream 1080P movie files by transcoding them) on my other computers on my network and I have not had any problems with my samba shares using XP and Vista (and Mint Linux). In fact, I have started using the USB drives attached to the unit through a hub as NAS since they are faster then when connected to a computer over the network.
Started playing with the built in andriod (Froyo) and got angry birds working. (using a 4 gig SD card for Android storage). No problems at all once I got the hang of the remote and some of the idiosyncaicies of the unit. So far VERY pleased.
Icing on the cake is that my favorite internet radio app, Shoutcast, is included so I no longer have to connect the laptop or my phone to my receive rwhen I want to listen to Internet radio.

I am new to this forum, having recently bought my first 3D TV. For the past 2 years my Apple TV has served me well and will continue to do so in the future. However, I am looking for a device that I can play my 3D blu ray ISOs with and the Apple TV is not the device to do this with. In reading through the previous 32 pages, am I correct in saying that the EP950 will play 3D Blu Ray ISOs? If I have read correctly it will basically just start playing the movie, I just won't be able to access the menus/extras?? I already have a hard drive with most of my BluRays backed up, but in the future as I purchase new discs can I just transfer the movies via network to the HD in the EP950?

The media player will play your ISO depending on how you ripped them. If you did a 1:1 ripped, it will most likely have the previews and extras. So, it will play those. If you do a main movie only ISO then it will start from the menu of the movie. You can transfer the movies via network to your media player, but it will be painfully slow. It will be faster to use the slave usb connection instead.

Thanks for the info. I've been looking at the EP950 and the EP600 G2 on Amazon, other then the 950 offering the internal storage option are they basically the same? They appear to be at least on paper. Last question, on Amazon's description of the EP950 it states "supports hard drives larger than 2TB" The way the statement is made would seem that a 2TB drive is the smallest that can be used. The drive I was planning on using was only 1.5TB and wasn't sure if this would cause a issue or not.
It supports any and all HDD's below 2TB, and probably 3TB+. I say probably as you'd need a GPT partition for a 3TB partition, MBR is capped at 2TB per partition. GPT support is patchy on PC as most have not upgraded to Win 7 + UEFI for booting off 3TB partitions (I have). Bottom line, 1.5TB is fine.

There are other media players that don't support 3tb drives like boxee box. From what I read Micca supports HD greater than 2TB but with sata connection just not USB. Difference between 600 and 950 is 950 has some sort of display which shows what is going on in the box like loading/booting where as 600 does not have this display. Now having said that, neither boxee box/popbox/wdtv have this display and no complaints , so I think that is useless.

i have the EP950
I'm using 2x 3TB attached to micca by usb and working fine

internal 3TB in micca works fine..little warm tought (its summer in europe smile.gif )

the reason I'm using DAS ( instead of NAS) is to achive high speed transfers between the pc and DAS, transfer 50gb take about 6-8 minutes using this metod.
the hard drives last longer because they don't keep spinning in lain-li

call me old fashion but i experience some glitch using a server to watch full iso blu-rays.

also tested my projector hd700x (720p ) with micca and not a single problem, a perfect image.
looking forward to upgrade to a 3D projector in future.

I have a question about the size of the NAND flash. The official spec at http://content.miccastore.com/node/233 says EP950 has 256M NAND flash, but I heard from one of my friends it actually has 4GB NAND flash just like Himedia HD900B. Anyone can confirm? Thanks.

guys after spending a long time with a pos netgear 550 I watched the video that was posted.
I was amazed at how fast this unit is.
Very fast load and response times.

Is there anything this unit does not do?
I think its going to be replaced since the chip manufacture is going out of the biz on these chips.

What do you see as a replacement?
Has the company made any announcements?
Any news yet on upcoming firmware developments?

There has been rumors that Realtek isn't going to continue to build the 1185 and 1186 chips anymore. This has been going on for a while so far it doesn't like it is true. I suppose this will depend on how much more inexpensive and reliable the new chips become.

Just got my EP950 from adorama & something weird is happening...The display is cut off on the left side of the screen.
I hit the info button & when i look at the elapsed time the minute portion shows clearly, but the hour portion is practically
cut off. Can't tell if this affects the video also.
So far I like this machine. Bookmarking feature is great, & deleting files from the menu is cool too.
Anybody experience the cutoff?
is this full blu ray menu or lite?

how do you think this unit compares to the popcorn 300

Tired of seeing Micca flash all over the screen when the default screen saver kicks in? I found I way to fix it so only a black screen appears. I asked on this forum for a firmware update to add this feature as well as a shorter time setting before the screen will go into the screen saver mode. But all I got was silence. well I figured out how to do it myself. First take a picture at night with your digital camera with the lens cap on. On your SD or SDHC card make sure there are no other photos on it first, then transfer the jpeg you just took to the root directory of this card. Plug this into the EP950 and use the instructions in the revised manual on the website to create a data base of photos for this card. Since there is only one image on the card (the black picture) that will be the only one in that database.. Use the the manual to figure out how to add this as the screen saver using the option for screen saver in the menu. Works great will blank screen after 2 minutes of inaction. Use the ok button on the remote to instantly bring screen back. Very useful when listening to music on your tv speakers or bluetooth connection to a headset. The moving micca will no longer drive you crazy or keep you awake at night. Should nod bother a plasma screen with burnin as the whole screen is blanked uniformily. Also you will not see "no signal" displayed on your screen.
By the way I found an important audio format that the Micca will not play. The file suffix is .wv, which stands for wavepack. It is an important lossless format. If you try to play a file with this ending. It will cause the player to go to and freeze in the boot screen. Only way to get it to work after that is to remove the DC power cord and then reboot. Any chance Jack for a firmware update to play this important format.
