One disc for the movie? one disc.... when did Sony become Warner Bros??
Never. A four-hour 70mm production can be very well represented on a single BD-50 and, in this case, it will arrive there using the latest and greatest encoding. It will look spectacular and nothing will be lost in this single-disc presentation.
They probably just don't want to spend the money for a second disc. Split it at the intermission... on the second disc have it start right up at the menu without trailers or FBI warnings or spiel about Sony disavowing anything said on the commentary track, etc. (that nobody reads anyway), drop the excess filtering and squeeze every ounce of detail you can get from 1080p.
And this cinematic masterpiece will look even better, especially on a projection system as God intended.
If this was a 4 hour James Cameron film... he'd say "spread it on to two discs and max out the bitrate" and Sony would say "yes, sir!" and hop to it.
It is very likely the LoA BD will NOT sell a lot of copies....
Why?
Because "the kids" could care less; after all, this isn't The Avengers.
This movie is 50 years old....long before they were born.

When has this ever happened and been a good thing?
Hamlet was ruined by this very argument, plus as to the catalogue comments its not like its some tiny unknown movie, Taxi Driver sold well.

4 hours is doable if there's isn't a single extra, but Sony likes to include those idiotic DTS-MA dubs wasting nearly 5 mbps that could go towards video.
If there isn't a commentary on this release I'm going to scream.
- BD disc 1: the movie
- BD Disc 2: More than 1 hour Making of + Interview unprecedented Peter O'Toole
- Photo book with storage for an exclusive third disc: a DVD composed entirely of exclusive footage (128 min)
- Map travel to Lawrence on parchment paper
- Book of original posters
"Having insider info" is a lot different than actually working for a studio, though. Lots of people know people who work in the industry and thus are able to get "inside information" from said people. Penton, on the other hand, has implied time and time again that he actually works for Sony and that he knows Grover personally. He has presented himself as a "voice" for that studio and has used that podium to attack a lot of people who didn't deserve to be attacked.

Vincent
Exactly. And now he is oh so conveniently on an "extended" Memorial Day vacation and the website, rather than addressing it, has locked the thread. I'm glad Mr. Crisp finally did what he did - he's one of the really good guys. And Penton Man? My guess is he will slither away into the good night never to be heard from again, unless he's already posting there under other usernames, which I suspect he is.
What I don't understand is exactly WHY hasn't he been "exposed" before?
Why wouldn't Sony try to "nip this in the bud?"
Perhaps because in the past, he was just a fly in the ointment, no big deal.
But, he was warned to stop presenting himself as an employee (and thus, spokesman) for Sony, and yet he continued to do so while continually passively/aggressively bashing folks who actually did have relations with Sony, so finally the shoe dropped.

And now the entire Penton insider thread/post is gone.

Are you serious??? Well, in one single gesture, that site has no credibility whatsoever - all they had to do was say, "Oops, we were hoodwinked by this guy, sorry," apologize to Sony and Mr. Crisp, and publicly castigate Penton Man for his horse manure.
But to now pretend this never happened by removing the thread? Sorry, done.
