NEC MT830+ Banding (Official Troubleshooting Thread)

Hey there, I've got a NEC MT830+ with some banding going on on the left and right sides, pictured in this post that I made in the wrong forum section. I originally thought it was a bad LCD panel or misaligned mirror, but I found that if I use the setting in the menu that flips or mirrors the image for ceiling or rear mounted projectors, it actually will instantly make the problem significantly worse, but then can be instantly put back to the way it was pictured by disabling the flip/mirror settings.

Any ideas?

Thanks.

Maybe I should've been more clear - I'm not looking to buy a new projector, just to possibly fix this one. If anyone has any ideas for that, it would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks.

New projector. Why? It would cost you WAY more to fix that then repair it, and it is extremely outdated.

May be, but I'm not really looking for a new one.

I was wondering the same thing myself, anyone have any ideas what causes the "banding" on one of those projectors?

The same thing that causes the magenta stripes on the JVCs and the Epsons, the panel(s) have prolly been damaged from heat or age. Do a search and you'll see countless examples.

They aren't like the "JVC Magenta stripes". Those stripes kind of fade in from the edge, but the lines on mine are very exact in their position. It's okay if it can't be fixed, I was just hoping to find out if anyone knew what causes this particular problem since I couldn't find any other mention of it on the internet.

If it's the way you describe it's most likely a bad video processing/control board or the LCD panels themselves. As others have pointed out, don't try to fix it. For the amount of money it would cost, you can get a higher performance, newer machine with a warranty.
