will post back some results soon but it looks like its giving me the most even and abundant SPL with the sub in the rear right corner of my room with the driver facing the couch

It's gonna take some time to get it good. Leave it at one position for a week and then move it some where else. This way you know how the sub reacts to your room.

I measured my room again and it is 6000 cu ft, I probably will pull the trigger in 2-3 days. I am not expecting mind blowing bass but I do expect it to be better than 2 RW-12d for $600. From what I've read so far it does seem like that it would sound much cleaner than the RW-12d but I am just not sure if it would be Impactful enough.

By the way, how's the Rhythmic FV12 compared to the Outlaw LFM-1 EX?

oh wow...that's a huge room...umm honestly man i would get the best possible sub you can and then go ahead and add a 2nd down the road...like you said, i would agree that you may get more output from 2 rw-12ds versus one HSU vtf3-mk3 or one outlaw lfm-1 ex etc. but the quality of bass will not be comparable. i would take quality over quantity and trust me when i say this- consider increasing your budget (even if that means waiting longer) to a larger sub b/c that is a BIG space to fill and heaven forbid your room is nasty like mine...then you will really be in trouble

hindsight is ALWAYS 20/20 and let me help you avoid problems by offering the advice i am giving you

here are some more powerful subs that would be great to consider if you can

svs pb12 plus
epik empire
hsu vtf-15h
rythmik fv15/fv15hp

and this is a particularly helpful review that covers 5 subs- 3 of which we are discussing in this thread

I've read this review several times. The only thing I don't like about it is that the reviewer doesn't compare them to each other, otherwise it would have been a phenomenal review. Just so you know my living room runs into the kitchen and that's how it's 6000 cubic feet. My budget is $600 so i think the Outlaw would be my best bet. How's the feel of your VTF-3 can you feel your clothes waving? Do you feel it in your chest at all? By the way, Hsu recommends the VTF3 for 6000 cu ft so you might wanna contact them why it's not sounding right.

yeah you are right in calculating ALL open space as sound travels and if it's not sealed off, it will go there and lessen the impact at the listening seat.

yeah it's a strong sub no doubt- it would give more chest slam if my room was more acoustic friendly and smaller, it still is wayyyyy better than the klipsch but i am a bass freak...so does it satisfy my bass needs? nope! lol that's why i'm looking for a 2nd sub

if you are absolutely stuck at 600 and cannot go higher than you can go with the ex and then add one in the future (i guarantee you will want to lol)

Razzy, unless the sub is still under warranty, Hsu won't be obligated to help you, as you are not the original owner, but they probably would try anyway. I don't think there is anything they could do for you there, the problem really look to be not enough air displacement. Like was said before, the only way to overcome that is either more subs or a bigger sub.

yeah i know...the warranty is quite long (7 years on driver) so i'm definitely covered there lol i already spoke to pete on the phone and he was very helpful...placement will gain me some but you are very correct that there's not enough air displacement

i just don't know whether to add another vtf3.3/lfm-1ex or keep this for a while then sell it and get larger sub(s) ughh wish my space was smaller :/

I thought they do have contact info at HSU's website. I don't have their personal number

so i think i've found the best spot in my room to be the rear right corner...spent hours taking measurements and graphing the results. someone on audioholics who has a similar AVR has been great helping me and we're going to fix the settings on my AVR to get the graph as flattened out as possible but i'm just going to have to be on the lookout for a second subwoofer...lol

this is the graph of the various locations- the green line is the position i was thinking is best

really tempted to grab an lfm1-ex while they're on sale for 550 but i would rather get another VTF3.3 or VTF3.4 instead for less than 550 if possible...not sure how the down firing woofer will be on my thick carpet and pad on my basement concrete floor...

On a carpet, you might need a rizer if it's too thick. Otherwise, the EX comes with heavy duty metal spikes.

That's only some $40 less than current price shipped. Is it a new unit?
