I've mentioned it on several boards.
I know you've pointed it out, and I GREATLY appreciate it. Your posts are actually what prompted me to take extra care in listening to the new mix to begin with. Judging on the restoration featurette released a while back, I would have (wrongly) assumed that this new mix was entirely different, and more in keeping with the original soundtrack. It's just a terrible revision IMO, and what's worse is that it seems to be more or less a direct port of the 5.1 mix that's been derided for years for its liberal re-recording and replacing of the original elements (restoring the whale call doesn't make up for the other - far more irritating - issues). More than anything, though, I just can't believe they have STILL covered up Scheider's "smile" line. And I can't understand for the life of me how "not many people seem to care" about a line being ruined from what's basically the seminal moment of the film. Guess this is why I'm a purist. lol
Han shot first. Brody said bitch. We need more of these snappy, three-word rallying calls for original film preservation (though it's sad they're needed in the first place).
