I can now chime in - just finished watching the film. The transfer is, in a word, spectacular. A great job done by all concerned. Anyone who doesn't think this looks like "film" needs to rethink the way in which they are viewing these things. This is a wonderful first-generation transfer, so lovingly done. There is no DNR on this thing. There is no edge enhancement on this thing. There is, however, a beautiful image on this thing, with great contrast and clarity. It really doesn't matter HOW they achieved it, they achieved it.
The original mono mix is fantastic-sounding - why anyone would need to watch this 1975 film in 7.1 is something I'll never understand. And having sampled that track with a couple of scenes, I would NEVER watch it with that track. That's not Jaws. As to the line everyone claims is missing in the remix but completely in the clear in the original mono - "Smile, you son-of-a-" - sorry. You never heard the complete word at the end - ever. What you BARELY hear is the "tch" - that's it. That's the POINT. In the remix the "tch" is still there, but it's even more barely there thank to the pumped-up other effects.
I am sure the nitpicks will continue, that is the nature of these boards. But thankfully, film fans everywhere have a transfer of Jaws that is completely a winner.
