Video card for gaming, and TV tuner card questions

Thread Starter
I just put together my first HTPC with an Asus E35M1-M. While it plays all media just fine, I did find that it is really not ideal for gaming. I opened up World of Tanks and it was barely playable. I know the AMD 6310 is not meant for gaming. So tonight I dropped in my Zotac GT 220 which I had no problems playing WOT, COD4, and even Bad Company. While WOT was now playable, I was getting about 9-10 fps. On my laptop with GT 540 M I get about 20-30 fps with custom settings between medium to high. So I guess my question is this; will I see any benefit in getting a GT 430 or 440? Not looking to spend much, so the high ends are out of the question.

Second question; I have Direct TV with HD receiver connected to my TV via HDMI. As I understand it it makes no sense to get a TV tuner card as I can only "tune" in the OTA HD channels. Either that or I have to use the sat receiver to change channels.

I think you'll find a lot of people here with DirecTV use a Hauppauge Colossus or HDPVR to record from their DirecTV boxes.

You can't get rid of the box or "tune" the DirecTV signal, but you can capture it in HD with DD sound using one of these devices.

You're probably cpu limited. I wouldn't spend much on a discrete video card unless you got a faster cpu first. Cheapest would be a an A4, not blazing but about 2x fast cpu and gpu wise than Zacate. With even a low end discrete GPU an Athlon 2 or Celeron would smoke Zacate. (I have one, btw).
