I've also explained on a number of occasions that the contrast is nothing to brag about on the W7000. It is better than the Acer 5360 which has no iris.
I'm not sure what Art was referring to when he stated 'how much better the blacks were after the firmware update, day/night difference'. This wasn't the recent beta firmware, just the original update from the 1.0 in December.
"The BenQ W7000 projector has extremely good black level performance. I’ve viewed side by side with the Epson Home Cinema 5010, which has the best blacks under $3000. The Epson wins, but not by a whole lot. "
Putting the instruments aside, my eyes don't agree with that comment.
The big sell for me is the HP friendly lens shift and it's ability to handle ghost-free 3D viewing with the least flicker of all the current models. 3D reviews of the W7000 should be judged with the Optoma ZD201 glasses as they are the best performing out of 5 different DLP link glasses I tested, including the factory BenQ's.
