Thanks, if the TD glasses are to big I will give those a shot. I just remembered I also have a 106" Grey .08 gain also from Elite Screens. I wonder considering this is such a bright projector that the grey might be a better option?

how large is your screen and how far away are you sitting? I have 2 rows of seating and found out that my back row sometimes the true3d glasses don't sync up but when I am closer to the screen they are fine.

Me personally, I would never consider a grey screen. Might as well get a different projector like a JVC if you are worried about black levels or a larger screen if you think it might be too bright. Plus, that basically defeats the purpose of 3D. If you are only considering 2D, I would really consider a jvc, because you can clamp down on the iris.

I will be 11 feet or so from the screen, one set of 4 chairs. I am hoping that the glasses sync without any issues. One of my biggest concerns while deciding on a new projector was if 3D was ready for real home use or were we all beta testers. I was going to choose a JVC non 3D but decided to take a chance on the W7000.

i don't know about fitting on kids as i don't have any and haven't had any over to try. my girlfriend has a smallish head and she doesn't seem to have any issues. she at least hasn't mentioned any to me. we just had to swap out the nose piece for her and she's good to go now. i have 3 rows of 3 seats in my room, the farthest row puts your head at about 16.5" from the screen and i've had no issues with sync yet. i'm also just using a basic 106" 1.0 white screen

Good to know, i'll keep the thread updated as I get things installed over the next few days.

Very weird thing just happened. I've had the pj for about 3 days, put about 15 hours on it. Came home today, fired it up, and it had reverted back to table top mode (I have it on a mount on the ceiling). The lamp timer has re-set to 0, and all of the pre-sets (normal, user1, user2,user3)are exactly the same. Any thoughts?
Ok, first impressions:

Purchased to following which all came in today.

Benq W7000
Peerless PRG mount
True depth 3D glasses 4 pair
Sony BDP-S590 3D Blu Ray

Peerless mount is awesome, took 15 minuets to mount it and everything was complete and worked flawlessly with this projector.

True depth 3D glasses all came in with dead batteries, I charged one pair for 10 minuets just to try them out.

Sony S590 actually works quite well, loads 3D movies really quickly and looked great. I have a Oppo BD 83 for my regular blu's which as far as I am concerned has no equal.

And as for the W7000' all I can say is WOW. I haven't even calibrated it yet and I was truly blown away. First thing I did was change the bulb setting to econo because normal was very bright for my 106" screen. Colors, shadow detail, black levels, brightness was way over my expectations. Also much better than what I had and I thought that picture looked good.

I started with Avatar and jumped around through different scenes, when they shot down the home tree scene looked like it was jumping off the screen and I only have the 2D version. Clarity, sharpness are off the hook. Images have such a pop to it that its almost distracting, in a good way.

I then put in Toy Story 3 which I think needs to be in everyones library, unbelievable color and sharpness, I called my wife in to see it. Understand my wife could care less about having a projector and was never really impressed with the last 2 we have had. She walked in and said "wow" then she made the comment that it looks better than our 52" LCD Samsung tv we have had for 2 1/2 years.

Next came just 10 minuets of 3D which we have tangled. Now I know why those who love 3D defend it so much, images looked amazing and the brightness seemed great in my environment. I can't wait to watch a whole movie in 3D now.

All in all I cannot rave enought about this projector even though I have less than 2 hours on it. Lol. I now will look for updated calibration settings to go along with firmware 1.03 which I verified before I even took the plastic off of it.

Totally agree with dolphinc. Same reaction from the wife. Upgraded from the 8720. Night and day difference!

It KILLS me that this projector won't fill my 40x96 scope screen from 11.5 feet away. The price is great considering I would only use it for ghost free DLP 3D.frown.gif I know Epson and Sony make projectors that would work for me but I want 100% ghost free picture. I'm happy to keep using my RS2 clone for 2D for the time being. I'm a zoomer so I need to manually zoom down for non scope material. For 16x9 content, the screen is around 40x71.

Is there any possible way to, such as a lens, that would allow it to work in my room? I can't move the walls so that is not an option.

Thanks,
Tom

What is a 40x96 scope screen? My projector is 11.5 feet from my 106" 16x9 screen and the projector fills it and can even go a little larger.

tangled is a decent 3D title, but there's others that really stand out. Most of the Imax movies are great. One of my favorite animations is Sammy's Adventures. You have to import it, but it's worth it. the 3D is intense for depth and pop outs the entire movie.

It's good to hear you like it.

When I first got my W7000, I could tell that the grey scale needed to have some work done to it. The colors were not off by that much, so only the grey scale needed to be dialed down. I'm with you, Avatar looked amazing, the best I seen it in 2D. Much better than my rs40 and 55 IMO. Toy Story 3 was the same way. Animations excel in this projector because of the vivid colors. My fav 3D movie so far on this projector is Journey to the center earth 2. It was really done well in 3D. Wrath of the Titans and John Carter were good ones too.

Just saw the new Spiderman with my nephew today, can't wait to see this one in 3D on the W7000.

I have both and haven't watched them yet. I think Titan's might be tonight since I read some positive comments on the post production 3D effects. Anything has to be better than the first one with the cardboard cutout effect.

I have some dark, grungy movies lined up for the RS55 as well, Chronicle and Lockout. Different projectors for different content.

JVC and BQ should team up for a 'dual light engine' ™ projector. smile.gif

Your 106" 16 x 9 screen is about 92 inches wide. The 'Scope' screen (2.4 aspect ratio rather than your screen's 1.78 aspect ratio) he is talking about is 96 inches wide (or 4 inches wider than your screen).

Oh, got it. That's too bad because I am totally impressed so far. Now I am going to run the disney wow calibration disc to see if I can improve upon a great picture.

I'll be picking up a bunch of 3D movies now, I have about 300 blu's and I know I'll be double dipping on some titles, I picked up 5 today. I do wish the prices were a little more reasonable though.

I haven't watched a 2d blu ray yet since I departed with the RS55. Have to get a JVC soon. When I was watching Spiderman today in 2D at the theater, just made me realize how much I need a JVC for 2D and the W7000 for 3D. I don't know if I can wait until December for the new models to come out, might grab a RS40 or 45 now with a Mini3D. The W7000 is holding me over with exceptional 3D.

But if you get a chance, check out Journey 2, its really good.

The one thing is that the True Depth 3D glasses do not fit my kids so I am on a mission to find glasses that will fit them. I do not know that much about glasses but I live 5 miles from a best buy so maybe they have something there? I am looking for dlp only correct?

I don't think you'll find much at retail stores for DLP link glasses. The ZD201's are the smallest pair I have. I have some visitors coming over, kids between 4-10, i'll see how they fit them.

These might work ok? They are cheap enough to try 1 pair to see how well they work.

I would appreciate any information from your visitors. I have seen a couple of those on amazon but I'll hold off untill I hear back from you. I can make what we have work for my 9 year old but my 5 year old son cannot keep them on his face.

Thanks again.

I don't recall anyone in this thread with that issue. As long as the projector is working fine, just keep an eye on it to see if it happens again. BQ has a good policy on swapping so they won't give you a hard time if it's a unique issue to that projector.

Do you know if you lost power or anything like a blow fuse? I have seen devices revert to factory default after a power outage or brownout.

Actually, that was my first thought as well. The odd thing is that it did not reset to factory defaults. All of the presets are now exactly the same. The only thing that re-set was the bulb timer...

Zombie, thanks for the reply. That is my thinking...

Maybe gremlins snuck into your house and replaced your bulb with a new one? wink.gif

Here are the ZD201's compared to the Sony kids glasses which are perfect for 5-10. I might order one of those kids DLP link glass to check out and see how they work with the W7000.

Thanks so much, I ended up ordering the kids dlp regargeables with red frame that you had a picture of in your last post with a link to eBay. I found them on amazon for a very good price and amazon has a fantastic return policy incase they don't work. I'll let the thread know how they perform and fit incase others are looking for their kids as well. I will have them on Friday.

Also I watched 2 3D movies last night using the true depth glasses and they worked flawlessly. Not once did I lose sync or see and artifacts. I even moved around the room and they would sync immediately and looked great from all angles.

I still need to get some real calibration settings, I used the Disney WOW blu last night, left it in econo with standard settings and had to make no changes according to the instructions which I know is incorrect.
