The contrast numbers are native with iris off?
The lumens are calibrated to D65?
The lumens are with brilliant color OFF?

The contrast in 2D with iris ON is?:

BC off WITHOUT IRIS =

Holy crap is that bright... Yes!

Perfect for my screen.

Nice DI contrast numbers for DLP.

Is the DI very noticeable during movie watching?

And does the unit lose lens focus over time?

I talked to BenQ today and they explained that for software updates machines would have to go back for service in California BECAUSE the software needed to accomplish the act of loading the new software was proprietary and they did not want such software to be in the public domain.

They also stated that BenQ would pay all costs including shipping for the return of first shipment units for loading of the revised software whether such older machines were in the hands of an end user or sitting on a dealer's shelf. The customer support person was looking into whether the new software was ready and said he would get back to me shortly with the stastus of new software and the specific procedures for accomplishing the update. So those who have them out there, sit tight and no worries.

I am excited to see what BENQ can do to fix some of the issues. A lot can be done with firmware. If it can get black level in order (comparable with w6000), fix the 3d>2d delays, as well as the color issue this proj may be a winner in its pricerange.

It would also be useful for Benq to describe how customers can identify if they are getting new firmware or old firmware on a unit they are buying so they dont end up having to send it away right after purchase. Maybe a sticker or something on the box?

Well darn, here I thought I could buy a W6000 and load the firmware and magically get 3d and 6X color wheel speed. The REAL reason I'm a bettin.
I'm still sitting on 2800 bucks. I hope thats enough for projector, 2 glasses and shipping.

Here's a question I need to ask. The specs for the BenQ 3D glasses say they have a oin/off CR of 1,000:1 -- so do the glasses kill that 10,000:1 CR the projector has?

Kraine, how does the W7000 stack up against your Acer 9500 -- which do you prefer? Does the W7000 have 2D to 3D conversion and if so, is it as good as the conversion in the Acer 9500?
I keep my H9500BD

Why ?

Better contrast, cheaper, 2D/3D conversion (W7000 didn't have this option) and a more subjective reason, generally I prefer the H9500BD picture.
Any chance of getting firmware release notes so we can see exactly what they fixed (and what they didn't fix)?

This is a big reason I went 9500 (price vs performance) and so far I am keeping it. Still testing it though. To be fair I never saw the W7000 because even though I almost bought it, one call to support and the door slammed shut for my wallet.

Kraine. What firmware version does yours have? The latest I have heard is that they are still working on a firmware version to be released for State's machines. I hear they have recently found a few more things that needed fixing. Perhaps the Euro version just now shipping is an interim software revision. I can see why they would not want to have multiple software revisions for the States when the machines need to go back to be updated.

Kraine -- how bright is the Acer H9500 compared to the W7000?

I think all of these comparisons are not all that useful until BenQ releases the Jan firmware which appear to significantly improve the performance of the 7000 from BenQ's statements. If it remains fundamentally problematic after that firmware, then I think we can do more in depth analysis that is not wasted time.

THAT being said, I am very glad zombie and others did the analysis so that BenQ knows what to fix!!
I think it might be incorrect to call it the Jan firmware. They have discovered new things that needed fixing and I am sure they want to nail everything and not have multiple firmware updates considering that end user cannot do field firmware updates. Machines will have to go back to central locations at BenQ's expense. No guarantee that they willl finish by the end of January.
What 'new things that need fixing' did they discover? Can you elaborate?
Thx.
Mark I was wrong my W7000 sample have the 0.22 firmware, same as yours.

Dejavu the W7000 is brighter than the H9500BD, the review will be online in a couple of hours now here www.audiovideohd.fr

Yeah but anytime BenQ can get Epson to pay for FW updates is a good day for them.

That info wasn't shared and surely that wouldn't even be within the knowledge perview of the person saying they still were working on the firmware revision. So I can't help here. Just that it will be what it will be when it will be.

I don't know when. Basic message was they found a few more things and they want to get everything right to avoid the need for multiple firmware updates. What this also means that the supply pipeline of machines is emptying and that they will not be shipping more machines to dealers until the new formware is ready and the factory in Asia produces more machines and loads them with the new software. If you want one of these anytime soon and your friendly dealer has one in stock, you should buy it now and take the all expenses paid free firmware update whe it is announced. I have a BenQ W7000 and it is quite operable and very enjoyable with the existing firmware. We shipped a few to customers yesterday, and have a few left in stock.

BTW, this is basically exactly the same as the Benq w6000. In the best mode at farthest throw, it measures about 2,200:1.
There are some people that only measured 1200:1 to 1500:1 on the w6000, but 2000:1 to 2500:1 is the measurement I always thought was more accurate.

Anyways, the black level issue may be a reactionary bug, or should I say NON-reactionary in the IRIS's code, not sure.

I has seriously considered this projector for 3D, but I have to say BenQ dropped the ball. Both Zombie's review and Kraine's confirm that as of right now the W7000 has issues with black levels and overall contrast as a result. If I haven't bought something else within the next couple of months and BenQ has "fixed" the problems I'll take another look. A number of projectors seemed to be rushed to market -- too bad. The Acer isn't available yet where I am so that cuts that one out for me as well and even in places where it is available extra glasses aren't. Duh! The RS-45's 3D is apparently crippled. That basically leaves Panasonic, Epson and Optoma that have some sort of vertical and horizontal lens adjustment. The Panasonic is ridiculously expensive in Canada so I'm down to the Epson and Optoma. The Epsons are extremely competitive price wise, so I'm going to have a look. For me, all these choices were just an illusion.

Deja,

If gaming isn't a huge priority I think you will be extremely happy with the Epson. The w7000 throws a great image though in 2D and I'm sure after the updates it will be a solid choice for many.

Thanks. I'm going to have a look in a few days. I have no interest in gaming, although I know it is a huge issue for some.

The W7000 has ghosting with the Benq glasses but not with the Acer glasses, what's up with that...

It looks like he is using the new benq glasses that are exactly the same as the ViewSonic PGD-250. And the reviews are not very good. Contrast is only 800:1

So I should get the Acer made glasses and not the viewsonic? Then Benq puts it's brand on at least 2 types of glasses?
Best Value black iris with 00 IRE: 0.04 lux
This is the first time I've noticed this type of measure in a review. Does this mean that when projecting a total black screen this is the light that still gets through? If so then how does this compare with the DILA tech? My current projector lets me make shadow puppets in a total black screen.
I wonder if the firmware is going to fix the visual lag when using FI. I noticed last night that even on low the video is behind the audio...and only with FI on. I watched the first have of LOTR last night and I absolutley love the crisp, sharp picture. No real complaints about blacks or shadow detail and I am coming from the RS2 clone...though I'm not a black junky like some of you. I am really getting used to the sharpness and pop though and prefer that to the better blacks of my old projector...but thats just me.

Outside of LED DLPs and gamma corrected CRT projectors I would bet that every projector allows one to make hand-puppets on a totally "black" screen -- that's because you can actually see the screen. If you're in a totally light controlled room and you project total "black" with a gamma corrected CRT you won't see anything, period. There will no light coming out of the lens of your projector. Seeing a hand-puppet doesn't mean you don't have a great black level -- there are hands-puppets and then there are hand-puppets.

So has anyone looked to see what the iris settings are for the W7000?? Or is this not accessible like the W6000?? (up/down/up/down on the remote in the far right menu tab)
