Best MP3 player for home theater and using iPad as the remote

Hi,

I wanted to ask the 'experts' about what their recommendation for getting a MP3 player device for my home theater system that can be controlled through iPad having a great UI.

Basically I am looking for a way to play music through HT while able to use iPad as the remote control. I am imagining that having iPad gives great freedom on song selection with album covers, etc... if you have a large library.

Any thoughts?

Get an Apple TV to stream from your computer and use the Remote app on the ipad.

If you want a universal solution, get Squeezebox Touch. You can either control it from its own touch screen or remotely from iPhone/iPad,.

is it required to have a computer with iTunes running in order to use the remote service?

What if I buy an iPod touch 32GB and load all of the songs on it and then use it with AppleTV to broadcast over the home theater?

You could use AirPlay to do that. However, for the price of a new 32GB Touch, you could get a laptop with 10x the storage capacity.

Cost efficient:
Laptop or pc with large storage, running your favorite player (foobar2000 in my case), connected to the receiver via digital coax, optical or usb. You can control it via ipad with your remote desktop software of your choice.

+1 on the Squeezebox Touch. I use iPeng to control it on my iPhone, and the free Logitech program on my iPad. Works great, and if doing it again I would just use the Logitech program on the iPhone too.
I have ripped my entire CD collection to flac format on the computer, it plays those and picks up the album art. It also will play MP3's and I believe it will even play from iTunes. (I would have to check on this, I dont use that feature). It also is a great internet radio tuner.
Highly recommended.
